Is Bieniemy staying put then? Thought we were seriously pursuing him.
I think it's Houston or nothing right now but not sure he's able to conduct interviews while the Chiefs are still competing.

So Kubiak officially retired. I'm curious to see who is going to replace him.

Yeah the interviews can happen only once the Chiefs are knocked out on Sunday :D

I thought the Eagles would at least wait to interview him before deciding so just surprised with the timing. Guess, the Reich connection was enough to convince us.

It's not realistic but if I was Spielman I would offer the OC+Assistant HC job to Bieniemy. From Bieniemy standpoint, it could allow him to get out of the "Andy Reid" is the true OC narrative while also having the chance to work with an offense that has young and talented players and he could be the one replacing Zimmer in a year or two.

That didn't stop Nagy or Pederson getting head coach jobs. Nick Siriani didn't call the plays for the Colts either so maybe something else is the issue.

I mean, we all know what is the real issue why Bienemy is getting overlooked here while guys less qualified than him are getting hired

It didn't but that's one of the excuse given for him which is something that he could get rid of. Everyone suspect that the actual reason is what @giorno is insinuating.

Well we might not know for certain but we could all take a pretty good guess.
Not really. I mean, Saleh was the hottest name this coaching carousel out of all the NFL coordinators. That should tell you something. Like I said earlier, a couple sources have hinted there is some baggage with EB’s past. And that would explain a lot if so.

After he already should've been hired last season, probably. Which reinforces the point that black coaches need to prove themselves a lot more in the NFL before they get a shot compared to white ones. It's also one and done in quite a few cases if they feck it up - all the while you have complete feck ups like Gase getting HC jobs while they've proven they don't belong in the NFL at all.

I get that there's obviously no proof to it, and that also goes for Bieniemy, but I do think there's truth to it. There were 2 black GMs before this season and 4 HCs of colour. There are only two POC owners in the NFL while probably up to 80% of the players are African American. That's not per se on the NFL, as I understand that they've been reaching out to black people to become owners, but it is true though. African Americans are severely underrepresented at every level in the NFL bar the actual players and as long as that doesn't change, I don't think we'll see any major changes either.

I am aware of all that but I think there are other factors at play here, such as the rush for younger candidates of the Shanahan-McVay ilk. And if there’s a guy from a historically good offense in the Andy Reid coaching tree that is still a coordinator at 50+ years old, there’s probably a reason for that besides prejudice.

As far as I'm aware he had a few scrapes with the law while he was in college for things including driving offences and assault then a DUI in 2001. It shouldn't be ignored but so long as he's able to convey how he's changed and learned from those experiences, I find it hard to believe his history alone would prevent him getting hired. After all, Patricia and Meyer's history didn't stop them getting hired.

Unless there's something NFL teams are privy to but everyone else is not....I doubt it. Plus it's not like that kind of history is OK to have for a Coordinator, but not for a Coach.

Josh McCown?! Surely you hire him as a positional coach first to see what he’s like, rather than going straight for a HC interview!!

This isn't true. Read somewhere he interviewed for every head coach opening via zoom except with the Eagles during the wildcard playoffs.

Also for example, Brandon Staley conducted an interview with the Chargers via zoom when Rams were still in the playoffs. When they were eliminated, he had a 2nd interview (in-person this time) the very next day in which they extended him an offer.

Agree with this. The route to becoming a NFL head coach is becoming much shorter nowadays. Hard to pinpoint exactly why he's not a head coach yet, but at a minimum he must not interview well.

Doesn't really wash does it. If you watch Bieniemy talk to the media he comes across well and knowledgeable. Are we really to believe that he falls apart and suddenly says all the wrong things in interviews?

I’m saying if he had a great, knock it out of the park interview, he’d likely have a head coaching job by now. Seems like that's all it takes for some teams (Chargers supposedly hired Staley on the strength of his interview for example).

I thought he said being born, not porn. Either way I’m not convinced that either would change the fact that generally what he said was ununderatandable!

I hope and think it is because he has already decided what he is going to do next
