Nigel Farage - Reform leader

He’s so transparent it’s depressing

Edit: transparent in his intentions; not his financial dealings

I think the push is to put pressure on Burnham to hold a GE

I think the push is to use the campaign as a way to further weaponise the investigations and recent coverage of him as an establishment stitch-up, and in the likely event he wins, use that as a referendum on his character.

Burnham has gone quite strong in saying that Makerfield gives him legitimacy.

We all know that’s BS, but frankly no one wants a drawn out leadership contest.

So if Farrage wins, he will just claim the same.

Which yes, could then help get us to a GE sooner.
That isn’t going to work. The aim is to make the investigation go away.

As others have stated, that’s not the case. I often feel you pick the wrong fight when it comes to Farrage, there is so much that you can challenge him on - but you go for the conspiracies.

The trouble is I don't trust the people of Clacton to do the right thing. They'll swallow up this fake bravado as a rallying cry against the woke establishment and re-elect him again. Would be hilarious if this spectacularly backfires and he loses but since Brexit I no longer trust this electorate.

Honestly I wish he does feck off and happily grifts away with his mates Liz Truss and Russel Brand in the US.
No one trusts the electorate, especially if they have a different opinion to our own.

What’s the alternative? You can only vote if you pass some sort of test first?

I live in a labour stronghold, and so clearly don’t trust the judgement of my neighbours, but that’s democracy, is it not?

C'mon people of Clacton do the right thing you bastards!!!

If the issue to call a by election isn’t to pause the investigation then not sure what the reasoning is. Then if the ruling is against him, he will just cry eatablishment stich up and that the people have spoken.

It doesn’t stop the investigations though. They still have the powers to suspend him - what he says if he’s found guilty/ suspended doesn’t matter, that’s the end of him.

He’s got masses of attention from this ‘stunt’ and will do over the next period of time when nothing else politically is happening due to the recess.

Starmer/ Burnham should cancel recess, ensure parliament remains in session to debate and push through legislation.

That would take away the focus from Farrage, and actually be genuinely useful to us all.

I’ll see it more as a referendum on whether the people of Clacton are gullible inbred feckwits, and I’m fullly expecting a landslide victory for ‘yes we are!’

Well yeah. But you're not someone he's looking to make this work on.

They can suspend up to 10 days which then triggers a Recall petition. He will probably wear it as a badge of honour and don't think he will let that stop him.

It would call into question his entire defence, which is he hasn’t done anything wrong. I think that would be very much the beginning of the end.

Really struggling to see the strategy here. This will only amplify the media scrutiny on his funding. Is he betting that a such amplification will let him further his laughable us vs. the establishment nonsense? If so, how wasn't that equally possible from his current position? Really not following the logic.

It gets him a whole load of attention, and if he wins, unless the standards committee find him guilty of anything - it puts those allegations to bed pretty much.

Also challenges Burnham’s legitimacy, which effectively rests on winning a by-election. Which if he does the same, can really be used to push a narrative of a GE.

Pretty sure he was going to get a lot of attention anyway, and if the standards committee clear him, the end result'd be the same.

I get the point of it distracting from Burnham, which does make sense, but it seems high risk that that attention isn't mostly even louder scrutiny of his "gifts". As for GE calls, does it really make his case for this notably stronger? Perhaps, but it's not going to happen.

I would go narrower than that conclusion.

The Standards Committee cannot force a by election, only a recall petition.

If (when) he wins the by election, he knows there will be zero desire to get enough signatures for a recall petition, even in the worst case scenario of the Committee finding a serious breach of standards.

I truly truly hope this back fires on him and he's beaten. The quicker we don't have to deal with the lying corrupt frog faced cnut the happier I am.

Ultimately we don’t know the game plan.

The sooner there is a GE, the greater impact Reform will have, so my assumption is that they are doing everything possible to make an early GE happen. That’s the strategy.

we’ve seen however, that politicians can barely think at the strategic level, so perhaps it’s simply an outburst from being put under pressure over the weekend?

what aboit voderman standing as a martin bell type candidate, everyone else standing down. apart from restore..

It's clear as day he's doing this off the back off him getting investigated for his bribes. The investigation stops once he resigns. It can be picked up again if he gets re-elected. He's hoping that he an play the "public have spoken" card and declare that whatever outcome of the investigation is illegitimate in the eyes of the public if he wins.

If no one stands against him, then that pulls the rug from under him. And he'll end up winning unopposed and back under investigation. Then have to deal with the consequences without his "illegitimatcy in the eyes of the public" claim to back him up. And then when found guilty, will end up facing a 2nd bi-election after a recall petition. Which he will face after being found guilty of being on the take and shown up fir triggering the original bi-election to save his own skin.

Doubt it. The two are not connected. No, the aim is pure theatre. He is looking for a way to cement his position as party leader because he can see what is happening to his popularity.
But resigning and possibly winning the by-election isn't going to make the investigations going away. And hopefully it will make those who are questioning his actions only want to dig deeper.

No, the push is to reset the clock on his declarations.
I get it buys time but I don't get why he'd bother. It's almost worse to do it this way as he will then have to another bi election but with the disgrace of being forced to. I think if he thought he'd be found guilty he'd have stepped down today so this is more of a PR stunt.

The latest scam to try and pull the wool over eyes of his followers. Feels like he is starting to get a bit more desperate though.
It does doesn't it. And his followers see him as something of a Messiah and will follow his every word. Just think of Brexit.

What dress code issues would Count Binface have to deal with if elected?

Let farage have his circus. Where can I donate to Count Binface's campaign?
