No european football may end up being our saving grace

You make a good point. Could be the difference between finishing 16th and 13th. Onwards and upwards

Let’s face it, we don’t deserve to be in the CL and have no business being in it. I’m gutted for the lack of funds and ability to attract players, but playing next season with a pure focus on the PL may not be the worst.

Definitely. A pathetic loss to a rubbish side at a cost of about 150m and massive reputational damage is just the medicine for a side that struggles to get a shot on target

We can concentrate on winning the league. 21 is coming.

Chelsea had no European football in 16/17 and won the PL.

You’ve in your post explained why the premise of this thread is utter garbage

Not sure about that, but I hope it means we clear out even more of these players.

All the European teams have at some point not been in Europe and have clawed their way back into the competitions so it isn’t the final straw.

But it comes down to trimming the squad and actually making a difference on the training pitch with the free time. But we’ve got to get it right, and it’s not a given.

Time to properly clear players out now and hopefully plenty of time and rest between games.

I’m sure you’ll get a lot of kneejerk snark in here but it will force us to essentially one game a week with zero midweek distraction. We can focus first and foremost being a good PL team which is something we are not at the moment.

It's going to be very strange. Even at our banter-ist since Fergie, we always even had at the least the Europa League. Now it's just nothing.

Premier League losses will sting extra hard without the prospect of a mid-week game to distract and possibly bounce back with.

Except in our case the whole squad bar a few players I could count on one hand would be in the “to be trimmed” bucket.

“May” is doing some world record levels heavy lifting in that title.

There is no saving grace.

Less money when cash strapped isn't going to help move us forward.

There isn't a single part of our squad that is functional.

I think it will have its benefits. I made a similar thread a couple of weeks ago in fear of losing to Bilbao.

I think it helps with shifting players. They don't get their salaries up to what they were last season. There will be much fewer matches.

No, we need CL football. Standards need to be high. Hope this is a big wake up call to the board. The squad needs to be gutted. Need more ruthlessness.

As in I'll only have to watch us get slapped once a week rather than twice? Yeah, every cloud and all that.

If it takes complete and utter failure and financial ruin for things to change for the better at the club, then we're fecked. Missing out on qualifying for Europe's premier competition should never be seen as a positive. All it does is show you have no confidence in those who run the club.

I hate not being in European competitions. It makes the week really long.

No European football will mean an opportunity to trim the squad down a bit, or a lot. Assuming we are persisting with Amorim, we can rebuild and focus on a core XI with only one game per week.

For me, it’s the difficulty in off loading players. It’s not going to be easy to get rid of Rashford, Sancho and others. I don’t see other teams wanting them, they want Garnacho, Mainoo, Yoro, even Bruno. So, it’s not an easy policy to follow through.

Nonsensical post given the premier league is the competition that United have been worst in this season. Does exposure to the same playing environment with a stubborn manager suddenly suggest things will click? It's madness.

Not even mentioning the 85 million the team has short to invest in better quality. So if the window closes and two players come in none can cry if UCL qualification wasn't of importance.

Not convinced. However the squad and wage bill needs trimming drastically and this will help.
