No european football may end up being our saving grace

I don’t think being in or not in the CL makes any difference. They’d be difficult to ship regardless.

That’s true, but I think it’s important going forwards that they go. In fairness, without European football, they might be more inclined to push for an exit, who knows!

Been feeling and saying this. We don't have a group who can handle too many competitions. They won't get their wage rises, will be easier to get rid. We'll now have full weeks in between games to train, whatever the system (hopefully not this shite football, but probably this).

Get a small group, bin off those who aren't that useful to a rebuild, and go from there.
A lot of truth in this.

But I was desperate for us to win tonight because I think it was probably our last chance to win a trophy for the medium term. I don't see us winning anything for the next 3-4 years at least.

It's dreadful for us financially, given how broke we are in general and when viewing through the PSR lens.

It's possible we can keep the team fresh though, able to run harder with longer rests, we've seen it time and again from teams who are able to outwork others one season and then can't handle European football.

We'll need players who can actually run first for it to be of any benefit though.

Less games of having to watch this shower of shite next season. I like it.
That's been my exact sentiment.

I hate watching this team so much I'm glad there's less games I have to watch.

I resent the people that have run this club into the ground over the last 12 years so much. Literally sucked the enjoyment out of the game for their own supporters.

The problem is the money. They need money to get do a big overhaul cuz UTD are broke. So UCL no money. No major overhaul. No silver linings anywhere

Eh it's never that bad or that long. Wouldn't be surprised we're back in European spots next season, we always compete for the domestic cups... Not like we were going to do anything in the CL next year.

Yeah, losing out on £100m, all the money next season as well as the opportunity to attract top talent, a trophy, the confidence boost of winning - yeah we don't need any of that.

Players who can play football would also help too.

True.

We needed the money but the club and team at this moment in time don't need champs league football. It would do more harm than good to the actual team.

Let's get ourselves a slimmed down squad that's full of talent and physicality.

Where's the money coming from for this new squad? Talent costs money and as of tonight United don't have any.

If this leads to Glazers finally giving up and Jimmy losing interesting as well, then yes

It's not a saving grace to lose matches, full stop. People thought ditching the league would be good preparation for this final, but losing game after game just kills confidence.

No saving grace the club are in the gutter and losing to Rubbish Spurs side tonight who played rubbish while winning confirmed it.

honestly.
The erosion of standards at this football club is at an alarming pace
Erosion of Standards.

Like that hasn’t happened over the past 12 years.

We need to realise we aren’t a big boy club anymore. We’re shite and have been for a loooong time.

We’re shopping at different shops now, we need to talk about what’s happening NOW. Not what has happened two decades ago, that Man Utd, that Man Utd with those standards has LONG gone.

We need to rebuild and get back there & if it means no european football and more time to train and really focus on the league.

Would have bought this if it was posted before the game.

Do you think it's easier to shift players now without CL and maybe not getting enough minutes for the season in a World Cup year or when they get their salaries bumped back up and can pretend to be a genuine CL level side?

For a club that relies so much on it's commercial pull it's an absolute tragedy. Anyone claiming it's a blessing in disguise or other cliche stuff really understated how damaging this is to the club's finances and commercial interests.

I've no special insight to United's finances but we hear that every summer and then we spend.

It looks like Cunha and maybe Delap can happen without champs league money doesn't it?

Our wage bill is relatively low to turnover already. With no Europe more player sales can be made, we don't need a huge squad.

None of this is ideal. But for the players to progress it probably is best to have no midweek European games where we'll likely get spanked.

This reeks of desperation. Beyond the cup, I don't see what's good about losing out on 60m+ and the pull of potential players who could've helped get us back to the top.

The team we lost to tonight were below us in the league. There really isn't any excuse for tonight or silver lining.

Can a loss be a win..?

Wow. RAWK transformation complete.

Seeing less games does genuinely sound like a good thing at this time, I can't stand this team if it continues

We can't even start until the ownership is sorted out.

We're just running on the spot until that happens, so a trophy tonight would have at least let us pretend for a few months.

The Glazers are almost getting forgotten about, but the feckers have caused all this, and need to go before we can finally move on properly.

Don't care about Ineos.

What excuses have we got next season then when we’re only playing every weekend and no midweek games? On a plus at least we can see more Saturday games rather than Sunday

60+ only if we would go deep in the competition right? And really, what are the odds? I heard, it is more about 30 that are relatively safe but who knows how much of that would be reinvested into the squad and a part of it would be eaten away by players wages increasing to CL levels. No doubt, less money certainly isn't better than having more of it. But we would have had to be smart anyways - even with CL money. Shopping from the topshelf should be put on a break for a while. This will hurt a few fan egos, but it seems to be the only way to go forward. We have multiple gaps, we can't just bring in 3 players and then expect us to be much better next season.

Yeah I think this is the way forward, there are advantages to not being in Europe and it will help get rid of a few players.

The best players weren’t coming here even if we won tonight and maybe we miss out on a player or two but sometimes that is a blessing in disguise. Ultimately we need some good recruitment what we our budget is and bigger wages and bigger fees don’t always yield the best results.

There’s genuinely no positive in us missing out on the champions league. Even if we crashed and burned in the first round we’d still be attracting better players and have more money to spend.

This has cut our budget to practically nothing. If Cunha was the only big player we brought in I can’t see us improving significantly.
