No Transfer Window in the summer?

Is it possible that if the leagues try to finish the games in the summer that UEFA / FIFA will suspend the transfer windows to allow the season to play out with the current squads

then I guess they either have a transfer window whilst the games are being played at the start of next season... or simply postpone will the winter one?

who will have the bigger tantrum if there is no summer window - this place or pogba?

Has to be a realistic option though I think

I'd imagine if the league is finished at a later date there'd be a break inbetween it finishing and next season starting anyway so the transfer window would probably run from that.

If they really want to stop pandemic this year then cancel all competions including summer window altogether. I find that most logical thing to do.

Risking it spreading throughout 2021 would damage the economy even further. Some things really are bigger than football.

If they can get this season finished somehow, then I love the idea of a 72 hour transfer window. Would be total mayhem and incredibly entertaining.

Imagine our transfer team only having 72 hours to get deals done..

No chance in hell that it's a realistic option. Either at the height of or following a world wide pandemic is the last time football's governing bodies should be restricting player movement. There could feasibly be a situation where a number of foreign players in leagues across the world need to transfer closer to home to look after their families.

A lot of clubs may end up needing transfers to aquire the money for survival. Bundesliga put the estimated loss from a canceled season at €750m, even playing it all out with empty stadiums would still cost clubs millions per game.
There is not telling how football will look on the other side of this mess. Big clubs will survive I guess, what happens if the bottom half and ambitious second division teams go belly up?

What about all the players out of contract on 30 June?

you have to have a transfer window.Look at the lower league clubs who routinely will have 10+ players out of contract each year as most contracts are 1-2 years and you realise that clubs couldn’t put out teams. You can’t unilaterally force players to extend their contracts either.

there has to be a transfer window.

This is really tricky due to the contract situation for both clubs and players, it might be best to just ghost this season completely and then have an extended winter transfer window.

The window will be open, but, realistically, who on earth will even care. There will be new clubs found for anyone whose contracts have expired, but there's going to be very little other business done.

If the transfer window lasts for 6 months, it might give Woodward a chance to complete more than 3 deals.

If football returns as normal I'd be delighted, don't care how or why. That's how I feel right now. Appreciate these hypothetical threads in this time but think we're in uncharted waters, don't know how or when football returns right now.

I mean that's not really how it works. By implementing a strategy of social distancing, non-essential contact and self isolation we are making sure that it actually lasts longer than if we didn't implement said strategy. The quicker everyone gets infected, the quicker everyone builds up an immunity HOWEVER that would put huge strains on our hospitals and likely result in large amounts of deaths. This is going to last until next year. I have a feeling that the only football we're going to get for a long time is maybe the completion of the CL and Europa behind closed doors, or perhaps the completion of the league behind closed doors.

Theres too much money involved to stop a transfer window never mind player contract situations.

You will find though that market values drop significantly and the bigger clubs will benefit given smaller and medium clubs will have to sell players to survive.

At the same time we might end up stuck with Jones and Lingard as smaller clubs won't be buying, unless we loan them.

Seasons, player contracts and transfer windows are all linked. I think it's more likely that the transfer window will be extended (no restrictions on transfer timing for the next year) than reduced.

Of course there shouldn't be if the season is voided.

If its voided, then exactly the same teams that started this season should start the next, minus those who've run down their contracts.

No way on earth the season will be voided. I have heard the sponsorship/broadcasting prize funds will not be paid out if that happens. Season will be continued in some capacity the question is how/when

Logic doesn’t pay the bills. That’s why we’re seeing people with symptoms going out to work and carrying on as normal.
We’re going to see a lot of businesses go to the wall, along with a lot of jobs, if things don’t return to something like normal very soon.
If there is no vaccine or cure the virus will continue to spread. Could be 18 months for a vaccine, so 2021 could well be crap for the economy regardles.

That’s never happening mun. You can’t keep players against their will.

Imagine that Ziyech joins Chelsea before the last games of the season, and he scores the decisive goal to secure them 4th place.

Next year or two without proper actions the virus can modify it's DNA and mutate into something different, then take another toll and we'll be in the same spot talking about catching it again for the sake of immunity. Then economy will take another hit and danger of another cancelled season will rise, not too mention few more years and risks of riots will start emerging like in typical scenario where people are not presented with a solid solution.

I agree with you in huge part about social distancing, but I don't believe everyone should catch it and we can still use science to protect the weaker who's immune system can't beat it by itself.

Right now I'm at the point in making next winter window bigger, that is if pandemic is reasonably contained to the point of no bigger spread. Clubs will have to probably pay more for transfering player from one league to another but still it could be done under strict sanitary measures.

You're absolutely right, logic will never pay bills, but logic will still win when we'll be facing same problem and same danger every year, especially when vaccine they're currently working on will be obsolete and no longer current when the virus will start mutating itself.

UEFA is already acting desperate trying to extort money from every club which is exactly the sign that postponed Euros can be also cancelled in 2021 if nothing will be properly done this year.

The transfer window will take place in the off season, whenever that is. I doubt the season will go from one to a next in the space of a week.

Or transfers will just happen during the summer and players will not be allowed to register until next season.

I guess COVID-19 tests will be part of the medical tests when players sign onwards.
