we need a concert and films made for an industry that has no self regulation no independent regulation and yet repeated and numerous instance of abuse
There are industry guidelines where there is filming of nude and sex scenes. However when there are threats to your career if you don’t comply often results in people not whistle blowing.
Look what happened to Adam Deacon

Wait a second, an actor who uses his ‘platform’ to preach about what a good person he is and how everyone else should be behaving, buzzwords and all, turns out to a complete wrongun? I don’t think we could have ever seen this one coming to be honest.

I wonder if ITV will pull Viewpoint tonight.

He's a crap actor anyway and I thought he come across as a bit of a twat before the allegations came out.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
I never did like Mickey during his time in Doctor Who
Was about to post the same thing. He was one of the most wooden actors I’d ever seen in Doctor Who - Charlie from casualty levels of awfulness - so it has always been a mystery to me how he became quite so big.

Seemed a prize bell on Graham Norton recently, almost singlehandedly ruined Star Trek Into Darkness before it had even got going, and now I'm learning via the Caf that he's a Liverpool fan?

Clearly a wrong un.

Imagine you were eaglely waiting for finale and now you can't watch it. They should just censor Noel.
Yeah don’t think that’s necessary, that’s just pissing off the people who have invested in the show and the innocent actors, directors, producers and staff who have worked hard on the show. By all means don’t work with him again but pulling the finale is just daft.

Don't be silly, I'm sure he was very inclusive and diverse in selecting the women he abused.

It's still going to be on ITV player they've just pulled it from the live schedule. Bit of a token gesture but probably the best decision.

The allegations are vile, kudos to the Guardian for investigating. The 'degree of improvisation' on Brotherhood is disgusting, with Clarke allegedly giving himself carte blanche to shoot pornography with people who were there to be extras, not professional actors.

I'd also like to put on the record that I've always found Clarke's stuff; acting, directing, writing, producing to be absolute fecking pap.

Jet fuel doesn't melt steel beams

People using the phrase "innocent until proven guilty" in a way that is devoid of its legal context is increasingly a pet peeve of mine.

There is (rightly) a very high standard of proof required in the context of criminal trials that (rightly) doesn't apply to other contexts. And even in the context of criminal trials, the presumption of innocence isn't absolute.

The term doesn't mean someone needs to be proven guilty in a court of law before you can confidently form your own opinion of them or their actions. It also doesn't mean people aren't entitled to, say, decline to give him an industry awards, decline to work with him, decline to employ him, decline to associate with him or publicly criticise him without the allegations having been proven beyond doubt in court. In all those contexts people are allowed to draw their own very solid conclusions based on 20 different women accusing him of misconduct.
I get his point, but it's not for that pompous prick to be the self-appointed arbiter of truth in the court of public opinion either.
Excellent piece of highly detail, corroborated investigative journalism from the Guardian though. As thorough a piece as I've seen in recent times.

Such a weird thing to try and find an angle for. Some guy has abused his power to sexually harass and bully women and you’re trying to put a bunch of buzz word labels into the conversation to somehow angle this as being a failing of the “woke left”?

Like seriously, what the feck are you on about? It’s really weird behaviour.

He’s fecked. There’s no coming back from such a thorough hatchet job. Whether or not he’s innocent (which is doubtful IMO)

The only thing that might save him is the fact he’s not a middle aged white guy. Don’t think that’s enough to turn the tide though.
Genuine question, what's that got to do with it?

Clarke said in a statement: “In a 20-year career, I have put inclusivity and diversity at the forefront of my work and never had a complaint made against me. If anyone who has worked with me has ever felt uncomfortable or disrespected, I sincerely apologise.

Eh, what? He put those buzzwords into the conversation in his public response to the allegations, not me.

Seems you're maybe a bit too keen to project the angle of this being a failure of "wokeness", or whatever it is that you're desperate to argue against.

My only take on that would be that it's never a surprise to me when an actor or celeb turns out to be an awful human being, and I think many of the most awful ones promote progressive values as a sort of karmic balance to their seedy behaviour.

Apologies in that case as I hadn’t seen that statement from him. Weird that he brought it up and it fits in well with the description of his coercive behaviour.

Not sure you need me to spell this out to you?

When it comes to trial by social media (which is where these things are usually concluded) the more privilege the accused has to begin with the more damning the verdict.

Noel Clarke does not have the same privilege as the likes of Harvey Weinstein so is unlikely to attract the same degree of visceral hatred from those who would get most angry about these sort of transgressions.

I’m not saying this is wrong or unfair but it’s a real phenomenon. Although, as I said, I doubt it’s enough to stop him getting cancelled.

I think in this case it's particularly poignant because it wasn't long ago (a couple of weeks?) that seemingly all of social media/TV media was absolutely gushing over some acceptance speech that he made. This is like a tailor made text book case of celebrities who talk a good game and make themselves look all great and virtuous but turn out to be utter cnuts. Especially actors, who'd have thought it!?

What a strange way to interpret what I said.

In this specific context I think yes, they are likely to be treated more harshly (by public opinion, if not in the eye of the law).

In almost every other context you can think of I would say no, not at all.
