Amazing. Sometimes I'll walk over to the City Ground and bask in the aura of those two wins.

Usually around the time I start an incantation and plonk a candle next to that plaque of Stuart Pearce they have.

Who would you take from Forest's squad? Hughton is a no brainer, but who would you swap Bruno for?

Who's they're up against? Early cl is a joke. It's more like a glorified friendly
I think that needs to be rephrased in a way that doesn’t shit all over Sir Matt Busby’s legacy.

I think they are just WUMs. Have to be.

I use the Caf as a bit of escape and fun. Sometimes it's quite interesting too. Stayed away since the other night but come back and the place is still full of shit threads.

Road to final

Osterj fc
Arges pitesti
Dynamo berlin
Ajax

Final : hamburg
So, you actually had to be champions to play in that competition, not like now. Also, the other leagues and teams were all strong as well, and the English sides did not have the financial muscle that they have today.

It was a much more open and unpredictable competition back then.

So you think it's harder to win in the 1980 than in then 2021?

Look. They've won. It's theirs alright. But let's not pretend those teams are superspecial because they win 2 early form of cl.

Did you see the 80 comp? Did you see those teams play? You know Hamburg were a very good side back then.

At least Malmo had won their domestic league the season before and you couldn’t get to a final playing a bunch of teams that weren’t the best in their respective countries.
If this is the format we would probably have a few more to our cabinet. We lost against bayern leverkusen, dortmund, etc. No offence but england second best would be stronger than Sweden best.

Champions league is harder to win these days due to more stronger team. That's just the fact. Counting for inflation etc the amount of spending teams spend in the EC would make the past EC looks pale in comparison.

If you don’t think what Forest achieved in those days on a much more level playing field is millions of times more impressive than a billionaire turning up and fuelling a club with obscene cash constantly (and then, surprise surprise winning the competition eventually twice) then there is no helping you.

And city 2021 weren't? Or munich 1999? Each era finalist has their own strong team.

But my point remains..early cl isnt as competitive as modern cl.
Or it’s significantly more competitive, as the qualification for the competition is far far harder.

Millions times more impressive... ok...

For all our financial muscle we've won it twice in 30 years. Easier by millions of times.

Different times. They beat Malmö in the bloody final for their first one.
They knocked out one of the greatest club sides of all time in Liverpool that year too. In both successful seasons they knocked out the German champions when German club football was strong. They also knocked Ajax out in their 1980 win too. That said, it was easier to win in those days.

I think was Forest and Clough achieved was one of the greatest sporting achievements in history. They got promoted and won the English title in their first season beating that great Liverpool side to it. Then they won back to back European Cups!

Oh this. I’ve pointed this out previous.

The self pity and self loathing is unbearable at times.

Maybe, perhaps when we are the most successful club in the land, having one every trophy on offer domestically and internationally available to us, maybe then we might a level headed fanbase... oh wait

I remember Red Star Belgrade wiping the floor with us in the late 80s. Some great clubs have disappeared.

I don't know about harder, but it was no easy feat to win those competitions as only one team could qualify from one league. Now 4 teams can qualify every year and try to win every year. Also, certain clubs do have an advantage in recruitment and financial power now that they did not have in the past.

The only one pretending that those were some easy wins and now it is so much more difficult is you. Neither Chelsea or city would even be in the competition by those previous rules.

Hail Brian Clough the greatest manager England never had..

Great manager. One of my favourite personalities in football of all time .

Also one of my favourite Champagne Socialists and a top Anti-Nazi campaigner too.

Only winners can qualifiy is a double edged sword.

One on hand it's harder to qualify, but easier to win once you're in.

The amount of times we're stopped by non champions tells its own story.

The pool of talent remains the same though. The only difference now is that talent is much less spread around with a small pool of oil/oligarch rich clubs accumulating much more of that talent than anyone else. So for those clubs it’s indisputably much easier to win the Champions League than it was to win the European Cup.

COMPLETELY agree. I'm concerned that a lot of posters started to hit their wives and two dogs (named Giggsy and Becks), before crying themselves to sleep after -four- Coors light beers after the Europa League final.

The caf is always a shitfest but it's completely batshit crazy at the minute. We lost a final on penalties, welcome to life as a real English football club supporter (instead of a plastic oil club train set)

Maybe in terms of domestic titles, barely. Overall, it is Liverpool hands down as it stands.
