He was quality when he came on. Better option on that side atm imo.

He's so much better as part of a CB three rather than forced to be a wingback.
Glad to see him finally given a chance there again

He is so much better at RCB... The difference between him there and being a football crime at Wing Back is remarkable

Agreed. He’s almost perfect for that RCB position. Can take the ball forward, has good technique, finds pockets of space, good timing, surprisingly good recovery pace. At wingback he lacks creativity and ability to beat a man.

In this set up, he's a RCB and a very good one more often than not.
He's no wingback.

He should be the no.1 RCB, no discussion even possible. He brings so much football in that position. He should not play RWB, we need footballers/real wingers in that position. But absolutely love Maz in that RCB.

I liked him today, was very assured when came on. Probably deserves a start in the next game, as Yoro really wasn’t at his best

Good and steady performance - consistently good at RB or RCB - never any good at RWB. Hope we give him the starting spot to take the spotlight off Yoro for a few games

Should start ahead of Yoro at the moment, Yoro is young and needs to be managed accordingly, he’ll come good but is very young for a CB.

Should start at RCB against West Ham, Yoro needs to sit out a few games for his own good. Mazraoui is great as the right of the 3, I hope we don't have to see him at wing back again outside of emergencies.

Mazrouai seems such an obvious choice for RCB. Having Mazraoui and Shaw either side of De Ligt would seem to suit all three of them, is there a reason why we don't ever play that way? Is it because Mazraoui and Shaw are technically not CBs so it would be haram for Ruben to play 2/3 of them in the CB positions?

----------- Lammens
------ Maz -- MDL -- Shaw
Amad ----------------------- Dorgu

No good?

Small bright spot today. Thought he played really well.

Good game, but at one point he almost gave away a silly pen so hopefully he cuts those mindless moments out

He’s always good. One of the only players that rarely goes below a 7. Maybe De Ligt too. Both players we bought from a top club.

Good work rate from him tonight, and he wasn't afraid to get stuck in. Please keep him away from the wing back position. His skillset is much more aligned with RCB or, ideally, full back.

Very smart player. Reads the game well and technically sound. In this system he should be one of our RCB but if we switched to a back 4, he is best in that inside channel.

This isn't true, he's nearly always rubbish at rwb, and has never remotely got near a 7/10 in that position. I don't blame him, he's simply not suited for that position.

He was class tonight at rcb, that's his best position in his system.

Yeah, he was very good tonight. Difference between our right and left side is night and day and he definitely contributes to that.

Went haywire for a few seconds right before half time. Otherwise probably our MOTM and barely loses a duel. He's perfectly entitled to still be screaming at Amad for his doziness on their goal.

He should be one of the first names on the team sheet in that RCB. You can see he's an excellent full back who's been hard done by being asked to play wing back.

Another victim of this shite system. God I can't wait to see the back of Amorim and 3-4-3.

I really want to see Maz, De Ligt and Heaven (much better in the air) start. Yoro is great but going through a rough patch. I think Shaw is good in the channel but maybe not as good in the box and I don't want to start Maz and Shaw together as both are relative midgets.

He would be good at wingback as well but we have no midfield that he can connect and combine with. Hence his technical qualities aren't best utilised in a wingback role due to the very direct nature of our play. And it all stems from having a lack of ability in midfield where your mids don't have the ability to evade and resist pressure along with lacking the pace and athleticism to manage space. So due to lacking these qualities in midfield, Mazraoui needs to occupy a more deeper role as the RCB to provide some of the craft and guile on the ball which is lacking in midfield. And this is completely down to Wilcox and co who have created a complete shambles of a team without applying a modern day vision where the recruitment is centred around a proactive attacking system of play.

Ten hag was criticised for his recruitment but in Mazraoui and de Ligt, he brought two very good players to the club and without them we'd be an even worse team right now.

This is his position under Amorim. He's very good at Right Centre Back. I don't want to see him anywhere else.

He's the only defender at centre back who can actually carry the ball (I'm not counting Martinez as he's still on his way back). So if we absolutely have to play three centre backs, it's less terrible if one of them can carry the ball and play through the opposition's press.

Agreed. We need these centre backs to be nice and aggressive with their positioning, but also progressive when on the ball. Mazraoui gives us this. He is a much better right sided centre back than he is a wing-back.

Quality on the ball, plays passes between the lines that very few of our players can.

Unfortunately, he, like a lot of our players, really struggle when put under pressure in this system. It's why I think we might as well throw caution to the wind and attack as much as possible without completely exhausting and injuring ourselves. Whenever we try to soak up pressure we look far worse.

From that point of view our best back 3 surely is Mazraoui, Shaw, Martinez.
Would not be great for set piece though.

I think the thing is, if we persist with this Amorim style we are going to need to have at least two centre backs who are built like centre backs but can also carry the ball and handle an opposition press. I.e. highly specialised players. And obviously amazing wing backs. And high octane energy in midfield. I think he had decent options in that regard at Sporting, for the level they played at.

Mazraoui is the best defender navigating the opposition's press we have got. He doesn't make too many risky passes under pressure and he can use both feet, so he's a very special player. Shaw is nowhere close to that, though his first touch is immaculate. We'll see how Martinez comes back from injury.

Very good signing. He should play every game available. He's got urgency, aggression and great touch, nice press resistant player into combination.
