He doesn't have the stamina to make runs like Dalot and can be really weak in duels + Dalot can be alot cleaner technically. Right now I don't see anything he offers that Dalot can't at the very least match.

Maz is much better in interplay and under pressure so its a coin toss, Dalot is a brainfart player with a bad first touch and very bad decision making in the final third and horrible cross as well. Just a better athlete.

If Dalot rediscover his form when he was our POTY then maybe he could be considered but its been two seasons. None of the two should be our starters hopefull i the next transfer window (after getting in a third CM and LB) we get to upgrade RB, CB and ST with the same urgency..

Bad first touch? People just invent things. Dalot is better than Mazraoui at most things, really.

He wasn't even our POTY that season (Bruno was) - he was our player's player of the year with his stand out attribute being the fact that he stayed fit whilst everyone else was dropping like flies.

You referring to Dalot? He's got a pretty sloppy first touch. He almost always sees the ball bounce off him so that he requires two steps to collect it. He's stronger, faster and better in the air than Mazraoui, but in terms of technical ability and footballing intelligence Marzaoui is beyond him.

Neither is good enough to be a Man Utd first XI right back, if we want to challenge for the title.

18 months of which he was being played out of position. Then as soon as he was moved back to RB the last half season was unsurprisingly back to the best he'd played since that season (albeit not quite to the same level, but still quite well).

Those 18 months do most of the heavy lifting in peoples criticisms. In the last four years he's been good most of the time when he's actually been played in his proper position.

I like him, he's a better footballer than Dalot.

But it's fair to say it's been a while now since he put together a decent run of games for us.

Top player who is quite versatile and multifaceted since he can contribute in multiple roles at the back. Will come in handy either as a starter or backup for both FB positions.

In pure numbers, yes. But in reality our undisputed #1 of that group is quite limited these days with large question marks over whether he's actually good enough anymore, should only play one game a week, and (other than Mount) is probably the most likely player in the squad to miss significant amounts of games this season due to injury.

Our backups then consist of a player who is also our backup on the right, is better on the right, and has injury concerns of his own. A young player who is decent when in possession but has shown quite a bit of defensive weakness. And a player who has basically never played at leftback for us and who the manager doesn't seem interested in using there.

As a group, it's not enough.

I think we only need two viable players, so among the 4 - that would be Shaw and Mazraoui. Shaw played every game last year and even if he's unavailable I'm confident Maz can step in. That's the beauty of Maz - he can play on the right or left so if either of the starters miss games, he can slide right in.

Any full back can play either side if asked to. Any football player can play any position if asked to. It's whether they're good enough there for a team competing at the top of the PL and CL.

Mazraoui can't overlap and cross with his left foot. He's not even good in attack playing at his favoured right full back.

The last thing our left side needs is another full back offering nothing going forward.

I think Mazraoui has generally been very good, which is why he's still here after we could've easily sold him this summer. He offers a level of versatility and depth that will be needed over a 60 game season - even if he comes off the bench and relieves some combination of Shaw and Dalot during cup ties. Its just what we need given the amount of fixtures we're likely to play over an expanded calendar.

I think thats the key here. Back to his best defensivelyt, but his offensive contribution was bad, he often fecks up attacks with his horrible touch and decision making.

For which top team would he started though? You guessed it None. He's a backup at best and good servant of the club, but giving his best and just about enough so we dont look at more pressing replacements atm. But should be absolutely next in the line.

I think he should be ahead of Shaw on the other side. Better in possession nowadays and just as good a defender.

That just makes him a versatile player… we need better players.

I like him, tries but I think the main reason I rate his tfr is the fee… cheap. If we sold him for 20m or more, I wouldn’t be that bothered

He’s basically Luke Shaw at RB with a better rep because of his national team performances

Possibly the most unathletic fullback we've had in quite some time. He struggles to win any duels cleanly and can't seem to control his side of the defense, we were getting bombarded from his flank today. Dalot isn't great but he comes in and quickly stamps his authority in 1v1 duels after getting up to speed in the game. Big difference

He’s not a Premier League fullback, said numerous times this summer he should have been sold. Dalot is miles better and he’s not even good enough.

Mazraoui is one of those players who gets kept around to do a job in multiple positions and because he looks better than he actually is.

I said it before the game I was concerned Carrick seek to be selecting him over Dalot. Dalot intensity and athleticism is very helpful to the entire team it just something Maz don't do well enough

Mazraoui might be a decent option at RB if we had a marauding LB getting forward a hell of a lot and needed the right side to play a bit more defensively. However it should be obvious that we shouldn't be playing Mazraoui and Shaw as the two fullbacks. Unless Dalot had a bit of a knock or something, that was a bad mistake from Carrick.

He's slow and shite.

The amount of leeway he gets is baffling. Dalot gets dogs abuse but he's twice the player.
I'm on the same page. I've never seen it with Mazraoui but people go on about him like he's prime Cafu and I find myself wondering if I'm watching the same player as everyone else.

Dalot is infuriating and probably one of the most inconsistent players I've ever seen, but he's better than Mazraoui.

Should only play when the intention is to low block the opponent. When we expected to hold the ball, or even in a 50/50, we should play Dalot. Or play him as a left back, couldn’t be worse than Shaw.

Wrong game for him to be playing in, great defensively but offers little going forward. Should have gone with Dalot today.

he’s pretty decent technically, and depending on the day he can put up good defensive performances, but I don’t think he offers much going forward, he gets into decent positions here and there, but it seldom turns into anything substantial.

Also, our win % with him is pretty low:

Jack of all trades, master of none. It was the same at Bayern.

Just another 6/10 fullback. As are all other fullbacks in our team, unfortunately. Won't ever win you a game or do anything special, he just does the bare minimum.

Plays like a solid back up fullback.

Maddening thing is that for his country, he’s significantly better. More intense. More assured.

This is where I am as well. Dalot drives me mad because he's clearly got ability and is a good athlete but he's a moron who so often makes the wrong decisions.

The way people on here rave about Mazraoui I delude myself in to thinking he's the man who should be starting at right back. Then he plays and I remember that he's just the opposite of Dalot, a limited, unathletic player who is a bit cannier but worse in every other way and we barely ever win when he plays.

If the club is rebuilding one section of the team at a time then next year's revamp of the defence will be the hardest yet given that nearly all of our defenders are subpar.

Quality control
Terrible. He looks like he’s more interested in reading his religious texts than his tactical instructions.

Why's he shaved his head? Kept getting him and Mbeumo confused ffs

Car crash of a post
Why? It’s been reported that he’s considering retirement soon to concentrate on his religion. Fair play to him if it’s true. Plenty of players fall out of love with the game. Him and Shaw half arsing it at fullback is a big fecking problem for us though.
