Stinking the place out recently and getting away with it really. Hasn't been very good since before lockdown.

Poor night for him.

His touch seemed way off and he had no sight of goal. Never looked threatening

Yeah, was poor.

Hard to assess players these days, though. Everything has this pre-season vibe to it.

Surprise surprise he’s no good just like I said. But no, people were acting like he was amazing because he scored a goal against lower league opposition.

A poor player which we’ve paid a ridiculous amount of money for, for no reason.

It's as simple as that. Lockdown or not, Ighalo has never been good enough. We deluded ourselves into thinking so.
Was he genuinely rated? I assumed it was a cult hero/banter type thing you had going on.

When he first got here he was genuinely useful. When he started in the cup games he normally scored, and when he came off the bench in the more important games he was good at helping close out games. Basically what you want from a squad striker.

Since lockdown he's struggled though.

Yeah I think he was on a high after move to his dream club, and was in brilliant physical shape.

Most of his goals came in games we were dominating and far better than the opposition. He’s confident and on a high.

Covid break happens and he loses his form and that’s that. It’s been an ok deal in the end as it’s only a loan but I’m glad we don’t have him on a perm. Think he’ll be remembered as a bit of a cult hero/banter player.

Yep. I'm glad he got to live the dream and provided a good option for a while. Fingers crossed he can get back to that form so he can finish his time well as it'd be a shame (both for him and more importantly for us) if it all petered out with him continuing to struggle.

Yep - he's struggled since lockdown and that was mainly down to match fitness as he didn't really get enough mins on the pitch since the restart.

Ighalo is one more example why you should never judge new signing after first few games. And he is completely out of shape.

Mate he's hardly had any game time since after lockdown , where does he look out of shape ? Match fitness sure that makes sense as he is not playing but a bit harsh

This is the big thing for me. He seemed to arrive in decent shape from China, and now he's put on a fair bit.

If i'm 31 and finally get the chance to play for United, I would be eating and working in the GYM every day like Ronaldo for a year.

I'm disappointed Ighalo has got this chance of a lifetime and seems to have got complacent, like just being a United player means he's made it.

He came from Chinese league where the standard was low. Then the pandemic. From the info from Spurs document, you can see that even if you have a gym at home, it's alone ain't same at working at club training ground. Many players, teams suffer fitness wise after the restart. I think we can cut him some slack regarding fitness matter.

It's more about he's never good enough in the first place. It's all about wishful thinking, then reality hit hard.

I really don't understand how people reason in this place.

Ighalo came in an showed a certain level which is consistent with how he has played all his career so it was not a fluke. Now the entire team is playing pretty poorly and that is being ascribed to not having a pre-season but for Ighalo, in particular, who has played a lot less than other players in or around the first team, it must mean that his previous form was a fluke?

When he first arrived he did the job he was signed to do; give Martial a rest in the cup games and come on late in the league to hold the ball up, give us a pressure relief and close games out. He was actually quite good at it. We never lost a game with him on the pitch.

Whatever has happened to him since lockdown and the summer, he can no longer do those things and we won't see much of him again.

Or he just needs match fitness??

The role he is doing here, he needs to be able to perform to a reasonable level without playing weekly. Some players can do that, some can't. If he can't stay sharp enough for it then there's not much point in him staying.

That's a different point from simply saying he cannot do it anymore.

Unfortunately, he seems to be turning on to be the kind of player I was afraid he would be, after a brilliant start that got me thinking I was wrong about him.

I missed that brilliant start. Nowhere near good enough. I'd say that if he'd been playing for Brighton too.

We should t expect him to score every time he starts. He wasn’t great, but he allowed Martial to be rested - and that’s very important. We didn’t have anyone that could play up front bar Martial, Rashford and Greenwood before he came in.

That seems to be his key attribute.

Not good enough, has good strength, average pace but not good in the air like a Giroud. We need someone better.

Not sure he even managed to take one shot, not only that didn't put much pressure on defenders.

The difference between his performances when he first was brought on to this season is astonishing. Zero confidence on him as a backup

It was a romantic story when he scored a few goals last season but it’s rapidly running its course.

simply not good enough at this level even to be a squad filler.

When he arrived his hold-up play was really impressive but that’s gone to shit now. Shame.
