Official: Casemiro to leave at the end of the season | Maybe?

This is such a bad take.

He looked unfit and unable to play during the time Ten Hag insisted on playing him as a single DM having to cover huge gaps all over the pitch. Even prime Kante would have looked a lost cause
He lost his way after being asked to turn into prime Kante and prime Busquerts, now he has a managee not asking the impossible from him he is showing that he can be the old pro we will need as we try to reassert ourselves into Europe and mount a title challenge.

No one combines his off the ball work, aerial defensive and offensive abilities and passing into one like he does. On a reduced and yearly rolling deal he has a lot to offer, if he can agree to something like 200k per week and a squad role.

What happens if he stays so we miss out on a player that would have been a brilliant replacement?

If he leaves then we have to replace him.

Our recruitment has been really good recently so I'd back them to bring in a better player.

Sir Alex always tended to know when to move a player on and upgrade them.
Now is that time for Casemiro.
The argument's surely more that given the scale of the rebuild needed in midfield, he acts as a stepping stone to the next season, giving us an extra year to spread the finances.

We need minimum two if he stays or goes realistically, assuming we're in Europe. Two will likely cost north of £150m and we have to hope the signings click. That's before you talk about potential FB, LW, ST and CB signings.

In an ideal world you probably would move Case on. But given we need so many players and even past his best he still adds a lot that'll be tough to replace, I'd love to keep him on an extra year on a reduced contract.

Seems that ship has sailed though.

This. People are looking at CM as if our situation is sign a couple of great midfielders and you are done, that's not the scenario we have unfolding though because we still need stability at the back, we need to raise the technical floor and physicality of that back line, we need a Left Back cause Shaw can't be relied on whilst Amass has had bad luck on loan and we need a game changing winger on the left.

CB, LB, LW, DM and CM make it five signings and with Casemiro gone we would need a sixth. Considering that we expect one of the CMs to cost £80m - £100m that's easily a £300m - £350m window. If we half arse it then issues will come back to haunt us during next season and we could be back to square one again having ruined another managerial career.

So unless Wilcox and Vivel can come up with a few sure signings that are in the £50m per player range, we are going to be left short again and we are long overdue a title challenge and a deep European run. Our prestige and, more importantly, finances demand that we act to conjure up title challenge at least we look like we are not that far away either.

It's not a myth.
He's only completed 90 minute's ten times this season, and that's in a season with no European football.

Do you think that will get worse or better next year?

Ah yes, the famous professionalism that improved in the final year of his contract!
So he has completed 90 mins in a third of the games he's played?
He averages 75 mins in the premier league this season, hardly someone whose legs have gone.

Hes not gonna stay I accept that. Would it be great if he did of course.

But what happens if he does stay and we sign 1 or 2 midfielders and they are excelling without Casemiro in midfield? Hes not gonna be happy being on the bench most times, us fans wouldnt be happy if our manager chopped and changed a solid midfield just for Casemiro to play.

In that scenario all it would take is a horror show from Casemiro and everybody be cursing him playing and the fact we kept him another year. All hypothetical but could see it happen.
Agreed. Feels like a Cavani situation in that if he stays his place will be taken by a new signing, meaning neither side is completely happy

Why do we assume that he has to take a wage cut in order to stay? For this to happen we must have offered him a lower contract but I don't see it anywhere.

It’s always an impossible role when he doesn’t play well, Bournemouth were running rings round him the other day. I’m sure that was someone else’s fault and he was still outstanding somehow. He’s been very good in some games under Carrick and very poor in others as well.

He gets away with a lot because of his reputation and he gets some important goals but throughout his time with us his performances have fluctuated massively. He’s never justified his salary since he’s been here, you don’t pay someone over 300k a week to play well for half a season which is all he’s ever managed. He’s never been able to maintain good form since he joined so there’s absolutely no reason to suspect he would next season.

The stench of agenda rises to the surface. It's reasonable, and perhaps conclusively correct, to warn of us of the rapid dropoff in his phyical ability to compete in the PL next season, but Casemiro by all accounts -- except yours -- has been exceptional for us this season.

No agenda, just common sense and not getting carried away. It’s just a fact his form has fluctuated massively since he joined. You are living in some sort of alternative reality if you think your opinion is unanimous, you only have to read a few posts in this forum or anywhere to realise that.

You would like to think Ineos know who his replacement is going to be, or likely to be, depending on final places in the PL of course

To a lot of dissent on this forum, they prioritised the attack last year - and that's proven to be a wonderful decision as we've stormed back to 3rd despite having Amorim's madness for a big part of the season.

They will be in no doubt it's the midfield that needs a similar overhaul next year - with more games, Casemiro 100% off, and Ugarte having been a massive bit part player surely surplus too.
We're a bit vulnerable with Bruno too, with that 57m release clause. Although we will probably get away with it as there's only a small bunch of clubs that'd interest him anyway, and not all of them can afford it - see Barcelona bawking at half of that for Rashford! And at 31, perhaps they won't want to anyway.

It is not common sense to believe that Casemiro has been anything less than outstanding for us this season. If you prefer to ignore this season and dwell on the previous season and then ignore his first season with us us, you are of course free to do so. Cherry picking is not unheard of and it is a dead giveaway for those who have an agenda against a player. By the way, can you name a single player, apart from Bruno, who has been as consistently outstanding for us as Casemiro has been, with the full acknowledgement that Casesmiro has not been consistently outstanding for us in his three seasons at OT?

But I will say this, you are closer to being right than wrong with respect to Casemiro being able to perform at an extraordinarily high level in the PL and CL next season. But you are very wrong is peddling the belief that it's just common sense that Casemiro has been gash for us this season.
