Official: Casemiro to leave at the end of the season

Fantastic player. A great season. I love his passion and drive. If we could keep him like we kept Scholes and Giggs to guide younger players then it would be great to have a winner in the dressing room. But not as a regular starter next season.

Know what feck it give him another year give him his same wage, he will be the difference to us being in top 4 next year or not. The prize money pays his wages

The issue is , when trying to sign players their agents will look at Casemiro wages and demand close to that. So I see why INEOS would want to get rid.
Now, I don't mind giving 250-300k wages to Vitinha but , we're going to be chasing Joao Gomes and Tonali.
Best we can also hope for is , once released maybe he won't get many offers he likes and then willingly signs for us on much reduced wages? We can dream i guess.

Maybe he can go on pay as a ya play kinda deal. Years ago when we signed veron reports he was on silly money - firstly no one got a higher wage than keano and Verons wage was only high ish if he played

I don't see any reason not to extend Uncl Case for 1 more year even for a 350k/week. A good role model for younger players with great experience especially with United playing in CL next season. If Carrick able to manage his playing time, I believe Case will able to contribute a lot. We will have hard time finding his replacement.

Same amount of goals as the likes of Cole palmer. Is this is highest scoring season?

Nonsense. We’ve signed tons of players since Casemiro and none of them walked into negotiations demanding to be paid the same as a 5 times champions league winner. In fact all of our signings under ineos are on very fair wages. This isn’t a Sanchez/de gea situation.

We are going to have big problems with the loss of his attacking threat alone.
Our recruitment has been so badly mishandled.
We should have had another central midfielder signed last summer so it’s not a case of expecting an entirely new midfield having to hit the ground running next summer.
Expecting one new start to have the responsibility of being excellent immediately is difficult enough, expecting two is asking for bother.

He does everything in his power to be regretted, his goal scoring ability is something else. Judging by his recent performances, I guess it would have been more beneficial to have kept him for another year, but you cannot blame the club, he was on high wages and last season he was pretty bad.

We wouldn’t trigger the 1 year extension, because his wages are too much.

Would he have stayed on a lower contract? Did we even have those discussions with him?
There was a clause to trigger the extension with enough games. He waived it. Its not money

No. We determined we wouldn’t trigger the extension, then both parties agreed to waive the appearance clause, so that we didn’t have the ridiculous situation where he had to sit out the last games of the season.

This is what I keep saying too as no one knows if any discussions have taken place regarding Casemiro staying on a lower wage or if Casemiro even wants to stay as he’s never once said he wants to stay or wants to leave or if he’s got a move already lined up.

It is nothing official but he is known to love the city of Miami, spending a great deal of his off time there, so it is assumed that he will be joining Inter Miami as he is very much the profile of player they love and he has a longstanding interest in moving his family there.

I know it’s too late now but this just feels so wrong. There is no way we replace his quality and there is no way we have enough reliable midfielders by summers end. We would need to sign 3 by August and that’s not going to happen.

I don’t know the ins and outs, but I still hope he can be persuaded and that the club realize that another 12 months of him makes so much sense with other deficiencies in the squad.

We have no options off the bench playing once a week, imagine with Europe.

Yup. We cannot replace him.

We should be pulling out all the stops to get one more season out of him and let him go then on a free. He still clearly has a lot to offer but I think the players mind is made up. He has more than enough money. Maybe he just wants to play easy football and spend more time with his family. You can't fault that if that's his reasoning

I think if keeping his existing wage was attractive to him, he would have left the clause and hoped / expected champions league qualification to force our hand. I dont think money is his primary motivation.

I'd say he lined up a move last january, let the club and supporters know he was leaving as a mark of respect. Again not being specific about where he's going is probably a mark of respect as he just wants to concentrate on doing the best for us for the rest of his contract and ending on a good note.
Its not a bad way to end. Keep them asking for more.

Carrick said after Brentford game. Nothing changed. He's leaving.

We can’t persist with him for another season and it’s time to move on and end on a high. We need a lot more mobility in the team so we aren’t outplayed and outrun in midfield all the time.

He’s very good in both boxes but he also gets bypassed and can’t keep up with pace in lots of other areas. There isn’t a replacement as good in both boxes but we can find players who add a lot more in other areas.

Last night sums up the issue, he was given man of the match but we lost the midfield battle at home to Brentford.

Would love to see him do a year extension and retire here where he belongs, then maybe even a coaching role as he seems to have plenty to teach the next generation of players.

Offer him a one year extension on reduced wages and with the understanding that he won’t be playing as much. He clearly loves the club and he offers the youngsters some much needed experience and guidance.

Why would he take such a horrific deal? Play less and get paid less when he can go to Miami or Saudi and triple his wages?

I love Case and it’s typical of his fighting spirit that he’s putting in 110% to go out in style and get us over the line. As such I think as much as I do want him to stay he should go out on a high as a starter and being so influential.

I think it's better for him to leave, he's had a brilliant season and can leave after it while being held in high regard. Since he said he's leaving he seems to have kicked up a gear, he's probably just relaxed about it and is enjoying his last few games. If he stays any longer, he might just drop off and people would be saying he should have left anyway.

There’s no guarantee he will but you’ll never know if you don’t try. He might love the club, its history, the fans, English football, the environment around his facility etc so much, that he’s willing to compromise on wages and weather.

Its hard to get the timing right. The end is inevitable. Pride and ego seem like a pretty big part of the psyche of most top level players, so you wouldn't expect them to be great judges of when to move on. Maybe casemiro is just a rare case of showing good judgement. Got out of Real on a high, which is pretty rare. Gets out of here on a high, despite some difficult times in a pretty unforgiving environment.
No harm in treating MLS to a couple of good years after the career he's had and leaving them on a high too.

In his goal, you can see why he’s such a threat from set pieces. He was already anticipating the far post run even before the ball left Harry Maguire’s head. Add that with his height and desire its been the perfect combination this season.

All of this. He's ready to sign off at United and head for Miami. Good luck to him, it's been a pleasure.

I’m not up to speed on TikTok dances but to me his celebration with the money and the badge leads me to believe that he either wasn’t offered any deal or was given a very small offer we knew he’d reject and was told take it or leave it. I genuinely don’t think he wants to go.

Miami which has been mentioned certainly don’t have the salary cap space to sign him. There are a few MLS teams that in theory could afford him but they aren’t the glamour teams that international players typically go to.

What was Casemiro's main reason for wanting to leave? wages?
Knowing how to leave as a legend that he is - at the top of his career at United.

Unfortunately, some fans don't seem to have the same sense.

Casemiro is amazing, but he is old. We shouldn't be keeping him until he turns into Luke Shaw. We should be recognizing what greatness looks like, and signing equally great replacement. That's what big clubs do. We used to be one, once upon a time

Great points. I remember him being heavily criticised in seasons before as many thought his best years were behind him. Especially when he was expected to press. But when used properly, he will always be one of the most intelligent midfielders in world football.

He'll leave a cult hero.

Hopefully the club and fans have something special for the Forest game as he deserves to be recognised.

It's also fecking ace how his wife and son clearly buzz off the club aswell.

I m torn. I want him to stay but I get the wages are an issue. Also, given his age and the games we are going to play he will struggle to be a starter. However, i think he will be very good for CL. Even in his worst year here, he was good at the lower pace of Europa League.
