Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says red banners at Old Trafford have hindered their home form

He might have a point, I've read that goalkeeper jersey colours can impact stikers decision making - bright colours attract the strikers eye better and something about them unconsciously aiming toward it. On the other side colours that don't stick out in front of the goal/crowd may cause the striker to delay the shot slightly because they have to check where the keeper is. No idea if there were ever any studies done on this.

If things don't change for the better, he's going to look a bit stupid.
Why? He's played it perfectly. A few of the players mentioned that this could be seen as a problem in those split-second decisions, he never overplayed and said the red banners is the only reason we played poorly. If anything it's respectable, being able to look back, find small mistakes and change them for the better. If some of the players have said they have a small issue with it, why wouldn't we change it?

It's not a problem if we do, it's not a problem if we don't, but closing your eyes and not trying to improve is, in my opinion, stupid.

I was watching one match recently and a player appeared out of thin air. That's when I realized that the kit blended in perfectly with one of the advertisements and when it changed he went from invisible to visible. I think it was one of our recent away games where we were wearing the dark kit.
That would explain why Fred sometimes will be pinging balls to absolutely no one.

Fergie had a vision specialist, and the players used to do eye exercises. Think she helped Scholes a lot with his eyesight problems.

Even if it helps by 1% it's worth it.
That is fascinating. I forgot Scholes missed a lot of 05-06 due to his blurred vision. He was part of why 06-07 felt like such of a rebirth after 3 unfulfilling years. Nicer kits, performing in Europe, more vibrancy on field. Football isn’t the same anymore.

Doesn’t Scholesey have asthma too. And he managed the things he did on a football field. Genius.

While I don't think this can be used as a serious excuse, even a 1% improvement can help at this level.

This is the type of comment that looks stupid or funny but if Guardiola came out with it, everyone will be creaming themselves about his attention to detail, etc.
This. I think it's a completely reasonable take and I definitely don't see it as Ole deflecting blame away from results earlier in the season.

How about you feed your kids first before complaining about banners?

Constantly at the STD clinic.
Most football fans this is a joke
I'd ask them to play Cricket as a Batsman and see why a Backscreen is important.

Same with hoardings that change and blink with flashing colours right in player's sight lines.
Facing a ball the size of an apple coming in at you at 95 MPH is a bit different isn't it. Plus the angle

I’ve noticed recently that there are advertising boards with actual football footage on them, which you’d think would be against the spec of these things as it can surely distract the players on the field.

In saying that, I’m not sure if the boards are completely visible to the players at OT due to the run off on the sides.

I think it’s perfectly plausible that some of the players did complain about the red background.Dont think Ole was making an excuse...

Walter Crickmer started it all...
Bill Shankly did this at Liverpool in the early 1970's....the press called him a genius.

Nothing new.

As someone else has said...if the players think it will make a difference then it will.

How long have we had those black banners at Old Trafford?

Hopefully the FA will do the right thing and refund us any lost points. My research hasn’t been verified, but if we were awarded 3 points for all games that have taken place in a stadium with red seats, we’d have more points.

Surprised it took this long and that the advertising hoardings werent mentioned as well. They are annoying as funk on tv so cant imagine they are fun for the players.

A bit different but the point about sightlines is key.
Colour and backdrops can play a role especially with the digital hoardings in split second decision making
