Our first XI against Leeds

Injury permitting, what do you think our team will look like that faces Leeds on the first day of the season? Most of our usual first XI players have not returned to training and will not be match fit so it might be a bit of a patch job.

with the back four and attack we have it would feel like such a missed opportunity if we didn’t add a top class midfielder. Having McFred in front of that back four and behind that strike force just doesn’t do them justice.

Realistically though, I don't think we have a lot of choice. Shaw, Rashford, Cavani, Fred are all pretty much not starting this one and I don't think Ole would throw Pogba and Sancho straight into the first XI for different reasons.

I mean the only first team players with any sort of pre season are:

AWB,
Williams,
DVB,
Greenwood,
Dalot,
Lingard,
James,
Matic
And Mata

I know Bruno is back now. Where is Mctominay, Lindelof and Martial?

This doesn't look promising for Pogba who usually takes a while to get into stride.

Bit worrying that we only have 2 more pre-season games left and hardly anyone from the 1st team has featured. Cannot afford a slow start again!

The last person I’d accuse of this. He’s literally come back from two tournaments early for us at the start of seasons.

I think you've mostly got the personnel right. But I'd change things a little:

Wan-Bissaka Tuanzebe Maguire Williams
-----------------Matic-----McTominay-------------
Lingard-------------Bruno--------------James
---------------------Greenwood-----------------------

Elanga deserves to start ahead of James. But seniority will almost certainly win out.

And Varane probably won't be ready.

If their players are fit and running we need to be matching them

I don't think the tournament finalists will need loads of time to get back up to speed. The main worry I'd have out of those would be Cavani, so could maybe see him being replaced by James, with Greenwood moving up front.

Depressing. I hope more of our other personnel will be ready for the game as this doesn't fill me with confidence at all.

It looks like almost their entire first team played, got to admit it is a bit worrying how close the start of the season is especially when our first game is against a team known for their freakish fitness levels.
