Our next five Premier League games

When is the last time we won 5 in a row?
 
We can catch Aston Villa and even City. City is playing Spurs and Liverpool away next.

Of course it is premature to discuss finishing above them but at least we can close the gap. Aston Villas has brutal final few fixtures in the league.

  • Fulham (home) - win
  • Spurs (home) - win
  • West Ham (away) - win
Gotta be positive... But I think it's doable. The 5 after that though probably something like 6-8 points from that set of 5 (everton away, palace home, Newcastle away, Villa home, Bournemouth away).

Actually looking at all the remaining games, my guess is we end between 62-66 points. Shame we really bottled December's nice fixture list.

Actually just did a game by game predictor til the end of the season. Had Arsenal top on 86, City 2nd on 83, Liverpool 3rd in the low 70's and then Villa, Chelsea and United all very close in the mid 60s before a small gap to some others below. I can see it being a really tight finish, decided on the last day for who finishes 4th and 5th again. Definitely think Villa will drop off a good amount, but they have a healthy lead.

Already doing better than my guess. But to update the above in light of beating Arsenal, I think we'll draw one of the next 3. Probably West Ham with it being a midweek game. We probably can't just jump into a 5 game winning run after all the shit before....

Yep - included the City win from memory, so not just an easy run of games either.
That season gets shat on because of the big away losses to Pool and City but we beat them both in the home games. We basically beat everyone at home (Ars, City, Pool, Chelsea included).

I genuinely thought, and posted here, that we'd get 1 point from the five matches based on the way we looked in the Cup against Brighton and how I thought City and Arsenal would dispatch us easily leading to a downward spiral.

Thank feck I was wrong again.
 
I feel that the Fulham game is, in its own way, as big a test as City and Arsenal. No one gave us much hope of getting six points from those to but this time we are surely expected to win: we've been here before and fluffed our lines. I'm not saying we won't win (I totally expect us to, which is the point), I really hope Carrick is telling the lads just that. It's time we dominated teams at home, won the games and deserved to win the games

That's true. He would have to up the anti and do something crazy to stay relevant. Sometimes these people do stuff that they know they get hate for, which drives traffic and content. Not saying he'll go down that road.

It's hard to stay relevant. A friend of mine actually was on Love Island a few years back and he has done well out of it. Only 3 or 4 of them have done well from it after the show but the others I haven't heard or saw anything from them.

If he's smart, he already will have a plan in place.
 
We are in an extremely precarious situation. Riding high on amazing wins against two top teams, too many people have decided that now that we reached top 4 we are just goonna glide to finishing top 4 (or top 5 "worst case") through the rest of the season...

And yet, the only reason we are top 4 is because massive amount of EPL teams were shit and losing points left and right. Chelsea and United are a hairline away from us and can take over as soon as we stumble. Not only that but Chelsea is clearly having their own renaissance with their new [annoying] manager. And while Liverpool's turnaround is not as obvious, they have powerful squad that can take off as a rocketship if their star players stop fecking around.

Why am I saying it? Not to be a party pooper. I am saying it because Carrick gave the club an unbelievable opportunity with the unexpected wins against Arsenal and City, an opportunity to break into top 4 and maybe finish in top 4. HE NEEDED SUPPORT, however. Keeping 4th position (or even 5th) requires reinforcements. Carrick did his job, club needed to support him with some smart signing(s). And yet - NOTHING. CRICKETS. ZILCH. Fecking accounts chose to not support a head coach AGAIN.

It is very concerning. Obviously we still all hope that Carrick's amazing run will continue and we will return to Champions League, but that proposition is far from done and dusted. Fulham, for instance, could beat us tomorrow and the fairy tale will be over. They are good team. And they are not that far behind us, too. It's not just Chelsea and Liverpool. If we get more injuries to key plaers, Fulham could also overtake us and then - Hello Conference Fecking League?

The area we need to improve - midfield, and we won’t be getting those players until the summer.

If the right player was available, then the way the club is now run, then we would have bought.

Guaranteeing CL football would be immense. Catching City and finishing ahead of them would be even better.

Which is why we need to sign somebody, so that deeper-squad teams like Liverpool and Chelsea who are on our backs do not overtake us and we do not lose out on Champions league, again, given that is worth more than 100 million quids. Can your "accountant brain" register that, even if you don't care about football side of things?

I like how only us being a 'hairline' away from losing is relevant here. Not that Chelsea also barely managed a win by the exact same scoreline (against a worse team).

Them and Liverpool will easily drop more points in the next few weeks as they've shown already this season.

Acceptable club sources have said repeatedly that we were never getting anyone in January unless it’s a great deal.. board wants to wait until Summer window.

It’d have to be something like “Anderson for £60m or free for all in Summer” and that was never happening.
 
It’ll be something else if we beat Spurs and end up drawing with West Ham. Will be so damn sorry for that guy awaiting his haircut after all these years.

We've got 10 games left against sides currently outside the top eight - Spurs, Palace, Leeds and Forest at home, West Ham, Everton, Newcastle, Bournemouth, Sunderland and Brighton away.

We've got four games left against sides currently in the top eight - Villa, Brentford and Liverpool at home, Chelsea away.

42 points to play for. Think we'll have done really well if we get 30.

Chelsea has won last 5 games... And they have the largest, albeit ridiculous, squad in the league. Their problem is not buying new players

How is that relevant to us? We clearly have needed at least a midfielder even in the Summer. Chelsea needs other things. Apples and oranges. Whatever they have shon earlier in the season was under a different manager
