Is Diego Leon better than him right now?

Definitely not. He looked incredibly raw in pre-season, while Dorgu looked immense.

I wonder if it would rather be worth giving Shaw a go there, now that Heaven is fit again. At least Shaw is capable of whipping in a good cross, and he may still even be a better ball carrier than Dorgu as well. No doubt he'd tire in that position, but then Dorgu can just have the last 20 minutes.

Shaw wouldn't tire, he'd be broken playing as a WB and be back on the casualty ward

Has good moments and gets in good positions but then he never seems to take advantage of the moment. He’ll have a one on one opportunity against someone but then seems reluctant to take them on.

Then even if he does get the space he seems to hesitate or just not deliver something. Sure a lot of the time there isn’t anyone in or around the box but he has to do better in those scenarios. Go and attack the goal, should be part of the role.

Willing to wait and see more but kind of not sure he has that something to go up a few levels.

Dorgu is good, when we have the ball and are in control. But he is so bad, when he has to defend.

Like his movement and stamina. The rest needs work. But he is what we got on LWB. Shaw doesn’t have the motor, and I hate watching Dalot on that side.

Shaw has always been a very negative player against teams that are compact. Drives me up the wall how he often doesn’t even assess his options ahead and just looks backwards instinctively.

He should not be starting, just used as a squad player.

Hopefully Maz will be back soon and play well or Heaven should get the minutes.

Shaw is easily a better ball carrier - in fact, there's no comparison. Dorgu has a pretty shabby touch, I'd say - not quite the touch of a...something, but he's hardly smooth on the ball.

Shaw is easily the better passer/crosser too.

But we all know what Shaw's problem is - he's made of glass. I'm afraid to even mention it - just doing so might cause another injury.

(If Shaw hadn't had this unfortunate trait - being made of glass - nobody in his right mind would have ever compared him to what looks like a pretty mediocre player like Dorgu. Granted, Dorgu is young and can improve his game - of course he can, and we all hope he will. But here and now, he's hardly anything to feel very confident about. Sorry for being so gloomy, but we have to be realistic about these things.)

Shaw would have been an amazing left wing back 5 to 10 years ago. Unfortunately his body would break down playing there now.

I wouldn't even risk trying to him out there against Grimsby to be honest because he'd be out for 4 months after it!

I disagree, IMO one thing a good wingback needs to be is a two-footed player, Shaw's right foot is for standing on only

What exactly is he brilliant as impacting if he is a sub? He is a decent athlete, but if that was the sole criteria, we might as well target track and field performers going forward.
His physicality, directness and pace would be ideal against a tiring RB for the last 20 minutes of a game. It's not a unique suggestion to bring on a less polished player with outstanding physical attributes to try to shift an impasse.

The cross he hit into the side netting in the first half was quite annoying. He did well to use his pace to chase the ball down and it was still a yard or two from the line. Just get a decent ball into the box. Nope smashed it out

Can he or any of these feckers just whip a cross in for fexks sake. Dawdle dawdle dawdle on the wings.

Probably the thing about United of old I miss the most. Genuinely good wing play. Haven't seen it for ages it seems well before amorim

He has the physical traits, but doesn't seem to have much one on one ability. Needs to develop a quicker and more consistent cross.

In Dorgu, we already have a back-up RB now for the next manager who plays four at back. Just need to move Shaw on and get a starter next window. Some terrific long term planning from the best in class management team.

We’ve been conned, again. 30 million for someone with basically mid table championship player ability.

For comparison, some of the better attacking wing backs in the league have been going for this much in recent years from clubs of a similar or even less stature than Lecce.

Kerkez - 15 million
Munoz - 8 million
Udogie - 20 million
Air Nouri 8 million and then 36 million this summer.
Livramento - 40 million
Porro - 35 million

Grimsby 2:2 Man Utd
During the game i was trying to remember did we have a player with worse technique than him. Couldn't think of any.

Don't rate him at all. Never have but thought this might be a chance for him to look good

He is an utterly dreadful footballer. Our scouts and recruitment team really must be the fecking worst in the league

Would probs be a decent LB.

The amount he is being expected to do in this system is ridiculous.

9 times out of 10 he receives the ball with no other united player within 20 yds of him, completely doubled up on.

God I hate this system.

Woeful player, he is lucky that the other wingbacks in Amad and Dalot are somehow even worse.

Leon needs to start.

Was obvious early on that he’s not particularly talented. You’re not allowed to say that though with new signings on here.

He’s also not this athletic specimen he’s made out to be on here either. He’s decently paced, that’s about it. But he’s no Rashford or Valencia or anything.

Scored a great point from out the wing, would have been 2 pointer in Croker Park.

When people say pre-season means nothing, Dorgu may actually be the embodiment of the phrase.

I remember fondly, Giggs, Beckham as wingers, Neville, Irwin, Valencia, Evra at left or right back all had could pick a striker with a pass, cross or through ball. The level in these skills for this guy are non existent.

This formation is too reliant on the LWB position and Dorgu doesn't have the tools right now to be playing there. It's not his fault, blame the scouts.

I'm no Dorgu apologist.... But let's not pretend that a lot of those players successes weren't due to the space created by the partnerships/overlaps.

Giggs had Irwin. Beckham had Neville.

Every time Dorgu gets the ball there is no other united player anywhere near him most of the time, and he has 2 players to beat.

It was the same under ETH after season 1... There is no coincidence in the fact that Rashford was great that first year when he had an overlapping Shaw all season, Vs crap the following years when we went to an underlapping into midfield system. He was isolated and doubled up on.

Both ETHs and Amorims systems go completely against the DNA of the club. And it's not like the old system doesn't work anymore... Dribbling wingers, and flying wide full backs... Anyone watch any PSG last year?!?!?

There was one in the very same team - Ugarte!

It's a real shame about Dorgu though, he's got an amazing engine, and that leads to him becoming one of our main attacking threats. But unfortunately he does seem to be quite limited on the ball. There's potential there if he can develop an understanding with Cunha, but given the amount of times Dorgu gets isolated 1v1 in a situation that would lead to a huge chance if he could beat his man, it's really disappointing that it's something he just doesn't seem capable of.

You mean, the team with Hakimi and Nuno Mendes, both players who would be absolutely perfect as WBs?! All that DNA stuff is BS to me. As if people just forgot how bad we looked merely a year ago with ETH. With supposedly "the right" system in place
