What you've said doesn't detract from what I posted - Evra put in the appropriate amount of balls a fullback is expected to put in, which would be a poor output for a wingback.Evra attempted plenty of balls into the box, and his relatively poor final ball is the reason he's not talked about in the same breath as the likes of Dani Alves and Roberto Carlos. The rest of his game was fantastic and he was constantly getting into good positions to deliver a cross or pass, but he didn't find the right option anywhere near as much as we'd have liked him to.
I agree that the final ball matters even more for a wingback like we are playing now, but it was still quite a significant aspect for Evra. Hell, for a couple of years Evra was largely playing like we now expect the wingback to do as he'd dominate the entire left side virtually by himself while the left winger would be coming inside.
It was even better before he got here and became [almost] what it had already been once he settled. Are you putting forth equivalency to what Dorgu was in Serie A is what we'll see once he's settled? Is that going to be enough for the wingback role he finds himself playing? Was Evra’s combination play elite in his first 6 months with us?
Weird. I was certain that I saw many players improve technically over the years. Must have imagined that.Problem is even at a young age you can get an idea of a player’s technical abilities. They don’t just suddenly appear as a player progresses. Hjolund could’ve stayed here 5 years but his technical game would never improve. Lukaku is another - good goal scorer but even from a young age you could tell his first touch, ball control and dribbling were weaknesses and they haven’t improved. Dorgu is a in a similar vein, he has all the physical attributes but I don’t see him developing into a Marcelo or Evra.
Don't get why people are being so negative about him. He looks fine to me, like others have said could easily of had 2 assists against Chelsea & produced a perfect cross. He's fine guys, chill out. He does what he's supposed to. Don't need to compare him to Alvaro, for our ambitions top 6-8 this year, he's good. I'd rate him basically at the same level as a Munoz.
I think his end product will also improve as he gets older. I think his crossing has improved quite a bit already. The passing is still kinda crap. If he keeps improving on the technical side, he'll be golden.
I can't pretend I remember Evra's performances for Monaco before he joined and I also can't say I watched Dorgu before he joined beyond highlight reels, so I can't comment much on that but of course he needs to improve. It was even better before he got here and became [almost] what it had already been once he settled. I didn't make the Evra comparison, but I did discuss it.I can't pretend I remember Evra's performances for Monaco before he joined and I also can't say I watched Dorgu before he joined beyond highlight reels, so I can't comment much on that but of course he needs to improve.
My prior comment was aimed at you comparing a player only 6-7 months into his time at the club with an icon of the club's peak performances for us. It's such a silly and unfair comparison to make. Evra joined the club from probably the second best team in France at the time and when he was 24 just hitting his prime years. Compared to Dorgu joining at 19 from one of the worst teams in a generally weak Serie A, with only about 50 senior games to his name. What was Evra's general play like at 19/20 years old and only 50 games to his name?
Of course what he was producing at Lecce and what he is for us right now is not enough long term - but we've invested in a 19 year old prospect, not a 24 year old who is close to the finished product.
I made a comment in a different post before about my belief that Dorgu has the tools to become one of the best in his position in the league over the next 18-36 months. He has a long way to go to be that or reach someone like Evra's level, so we need to be realistic and fair in our judgements of such a young and inexperienced player who is currently shouldering far more responsibility than he should at his current age and ability (otherwise we'll waste another talent like we did Hojlund).
I always thought Evra's final ball was average. In both decision making and execution. Towards the end of his time here when he no longer had a top class winger in front of him it really showed.
But he was obviously still really good for us.
Are you joking here ?He's fine guys, chill out. He does what he's supposed to. Don't need to compare him to Alvaro, for our ambitions top 6-8 this year, he's good. I'd rate him basically at the same level as a Munoz.

He irritates me at times but I remember he is only 21, and his first full season, he has alot of development to do.
As far as I remember Evra played in a champions League final at 23 for Monaco so he was pretty fecking good by thenI can't pretend I remember Evra's performances for Monaco before he joined and I also can't say I watched Dorgu before he joined beyond highlight reels, so I can't comment much on that but of course he needs to improve.

I dont know how good Frimpong has been playing, but he looks tiny.Everything said in this thread is true. he's a young player who happen to start for us too early and he's steady performer rather below the level we need, but not too bad in times. However switch him for someone like Frimpong and we elevate our game one notch. He'd definitely not start for the likes of top6 team. But his versatility and good fitness will give him cahnces to develop, so if he continues to grow he might come good for us.
But after CM, and no1 GK. Wingback should be our top priority. It's frustrating how woeful we are in the final third. our xG and chance creation is 2nd in the league but we fail to convert those chances and Dorgs is a prime example of this player who needs to do much better with the final ball or finishing.
I wouldn’t say brilliant but he’s not been poor either like some people suggestHe's been brilliant. He's so far been our most forward and offensive player. That's mad.
I heard a woman call a cup of tea brilliant.I wouldn’t say brilliant but he’s not been poor either like some people suggest
Wingbacks often have a lonely furrow. It comes with distinct advantages, but it is acknowledged as one of the hardest, most demanding roles to play and that’s another reason the game isn’t flooded with them.Seems like no one ever makes runs with him, he doesn’t get the benefit of an overlap or under lap run. He’s usually out there by himself with no teammate inside 15 yards. I would be curious to see any player pull off what is being asked of Dorgu in Amorims system in this league. Probably would have looked amazing in Portugal.
Tea is brilliant. Dorgu is good, but not quite at the level of tea yet.I heard a woman call a cup of tea brilliant.
