We have two wingbacks who can’t cross, in a system that prioritises wing backs, how clueless can the management be to overlook these holes when spending 200m+. Dorgu will be another who’s sold for peanuts in a few years.

We only spent a £25m punt on a £5m player. Not bad by our standards.

I genuinely thing he was one of our better players today, was able to dribble past opposition defenders on a number of occasions which is something he hasn't really demonstrated much before.

On top of that he received a bunch of hospital passes all match, especially from Shaw who seemed determined to wait until he was heavily marked before passing to him, and still made them stick most of the time.

He’s clearly being asked to do stuff he’s not capable of doing. Probably one of the biggest mistakes we’ve made is not signing a more experienced left wing back. Or obviously keeping Alvaro.

Spends half his time waiting for a foul and falling over because he’s got no idea who to pass the ball to.

I think he's being asked to do too much in this system. Hes trying to press like a left winger, sprint back like a LB and get in the box like a forward. Plus he's come from the slower Italian league.

Agree. Noticed that a few times feom Shaw today. It'll probably show as completed pass from Shaw because Dorgu gets on the end of it but he's played him into trouble.

Just like how Fernandes isn't a central midfielder, this lad isn't a wing-back. I maintain he could be a good full-back, though.

Can't fault his effort, engine, speed and workrate, but is being asked to do a ludicrous amount of work. And just isn't an attacker.
Yet is the most important position in our tactics. Baffling stuff.

It's a demanding role physically, but he's demonstrated he's up to the task. If we had a clone of him to play on the right instead of Dalot we'd look so much more dangerous.

Solskjaer and Ten Hag both signed their own deadwood. Dorgu very much represents Amorim's own contriubtion to the pile. We'll keep him for years simply because those in charge are too idiotically prideful to admit their mistake while all us endlessly complain about him not being good enough.

For a team trying to implement tactics with two wingbacks, we have a surprising choice of mediocre players in those two positions.

Gave him the benefit of the doubt when he joined mid season but the guy is absolute bobbins. How was he being used in attacking role in the Italian league? His technique is so poor. The only upside is that we didnt pay too much and he will attract interest from mid table clubs.

I'm afraid the only reason why he gets so many touches in the opposition box, gets a lot of space, and is involved in a lot of play going forward is because our opponents know that he has absolutely no end product.

He’s not good enough going forward to be a wingback but yeah, certainly not the first player I’d be coming in here to slate after today.

I thought he was very poor today. He just isn't capable of playing in the role that is being asked of him. He's not good enough technically to be our main creative outlet on the left. I mean he barely even get's a cross in never mind decent crosses. We've a 6 foot 5'' striker and we barely cross the ball towards him.

Standard Dorgu performance does good work but fails to deliver. For some reason he seems prone to delaying opportunities for himself to break forward. He creates the space of the gap but for some reason just refuses to bomb in to the space.

Don’t even recall any crosses he put in today.
Our goal I think, which he did well to keep alive given the nature of ugarte pass
But yeah,he's good getting into positions but then just shits it. Annoying

He was one of our better players today and still wasn't that good..
He'd be more suited to the LB position with less onus on him to provide the final ball.

I have a feeling he’d be found wanting defensively in a back four. I’ve seen him caught out at the back post a few times. We’d probably be better off with Shaw back out there until he breaks.

so he didn’t play as a wingback at his old club? Why on earth did amorim and team sign him as a wingback? This speaks volumes about how random we’ve been.

bad signing so far. Only time, change in formation or manager will tell of he’ll come good

The players that can deliver what this system is asking of wing-backs are few and far between. Names like Hakimi, Nuno Mendes, Reece James, etc. World-class stuff. So, you have a 20-year-old Dorgu here being asked to be like them. It's ridiculous. He lacks end product, that is obvious, but he is just another round peg in a square hole. Like pretty much everyone else in this system.

Yup.

He played the positions around it funnily enough. He played right wing and leftback mostly. A few leftwing. But his team didnt use wingbacks so he wasnt playing wingback. He's probably more comfortable on the right in attack

No idea why people are being so harsh on him. 2 goals we conceded had nothing to do with him.

As for all the snide posts about underlying stats the only reason you're able to complain about his lack of final product is because he actually get's himself into very good attacking positions which you can see with him being 98th percentile in the premier league for progressive carries. Compare it to Dalot on the other side.

Yes he needs to improve his final ball but otherwise he's been a very good addition.

Agree somewhat. I even think some of his delivery has been ok to good too. We don’t even have players in the box half the time.

Also doesn’t help that Cunha vacates the left side alot.

Only issue I have with Dorgu is his ability 1vs1 vs the opposition fullback. Which should be key for an attacking wingback in my opinion

He reminds me of Dan James when he was here. You can't fault his effort and work rate but he's nowhere near Premier League level quality.

He wouldn't start for any other team in the league.

He's young, he'll improve. Also why I want to switch to a back 4. Guys like Dorgu and Yoro will develop some bad habits that won't suit them in back 4 systems.

The cheek of Lecce holding out for 30m. I'd feel ripped off if he was free.

Fans were constantly asking more athletic players, aside from our central midfield we now have a very athletic first 11.

Yep, apart from any combo of our 4 midfielders and De Ligt and Maguire.

Amorim loves this guy, never gets dropped despite being dreadful technically. Biggest indictment on him. A wingback in 3-5-2 system needs to be very good at attacking and especially crossing and Dorgu is bad at both. He could try playing Shaw there - granted he’s been shit himself but would still be better in an attacking sense than Dorgu. But sadly he’ll never abandon one of his favorites.

To this day I still don't understand why Shaw is not starting at the LWB position ahead of Dorgu. Shaw offers far more attacking threat going forward.

Both are shite but Shaw is just less shite.

Trying to watch Shaw cover the ground Dorgu does would be hilarious. The man looks out of breathe playing CB in a 3, how does anyone think he's suited to the wing back role?

I doubt Shaw could even run up and down half the amount of times Dorgu runs up and down that left side.

Wingback is the most strenuous position of all. The load and demand put on wingbacks is unsustainable for most who are fit and playing other positions, let alone someone made of glass like Shaw. He’s also got a fraction of the engine he used to have. Wingback would kill him.
