Was somehow worse than Dalot when he came on. Couldn't clear the ball or win a duel and it lead to their equalizer. But then in the last 5 minutes of added time he locked in and somehow learned how to defend and started bullying Frimpong.

Munoz plays on the right though. I do think he'd improve us but the LWB spot is a bigger issue than the right with Amad finally finding some form there.

He still has time. Probably shouldn't be a starter though right now. We will need upgrades at wingback anyways, if the 343 is here to stay. So much in this formation rests on how well the wingbacks integrate into the attacking play and provide width. Dorgu has the industry and tenacity needed, but lacks pretty much any and all finesse and technical ability, when it comes down to providing a threat in the last third.

I understand the argument that he's not the polished, reliable option we need as our first choice LM right now, but Dorgu is on an upward curve and looks like developing into a top player in the next couple of seasons. Call it a mad comparison, but he reminds me a bit of Bale at Spurs. Bale was strong and rapid from day 1 but for the first 2 years was roundly criticised (I think Spurs had a record where they never won when he played for 30-40 games or something mad). Dorgu to me looks like a player who can go on a similar journey...but let's see how this post looks in a few years.

I think people just focus on the clear and obvious negative aspects of his game rather than some of the more positive ones when evaluating a guy who is only 20 years old. He breaks forward really well, is tough, his stamina is excellent and he can tackle. He's also really inconsistent with his crossing, sometimes losses his man, has an inconsistent touch and is erratic in his decision making.

Will be interesting to see how he develops in the next three or four years.

People have already made their mind up on Dorgu. He is an easy target, but the alternative that many posters wanted instead of him is doing even worse (Kerkez) and he is far more of a liability defensively for Liverpool than Dorgu is for us. There's just no middle ground. If he isn't Nuno Mendes, then he is the worst wingback in the world.

Very mixed bag when he came on, albeit in a tough game.

But as always the key bit of context with him is that at 20 years old he's still very young to be playing as many minutes as he is. He has plenty of time to keep improving.

The main problem for me is that the alternative to playing him is playing Dalot. If he was being rotated with a better senior LWB option then people would possibly have more patience.

I think there’s a lot to work with, with him. He has the athleticism, he’s physically strong, got a great engine etc. I’ve always said that I think he’ll be fine technically, he shows it in enough moments, so it’s about getting that consistency from him. This will come with age and experience.

I didn’t see all of his performance today as my stream went off for about 10 minutes, but even in the bits I saw he put in a couple of very dangerous balls. I’m willing to give him plenty of time as I think that is what he needs and it’ll be worth it.

Yeah that bit was really frustrating. It was a good ball from Maguire (or de Ligt) and he got in a good position with lots of space to drive into the box but didn't stretch enough to keep it in. If he had started the game fair enough, I can understand fatigue but he was fresh. It was such a promising situation but knowing what we know, perhaps he wouldn't have done much with it anyways.

Only once no? Thought he dealt surprsingly well with having to cover essentially both Salah and Frimpong at times. Seems to also slowly get some good chemistry with Cunha.
I am not Dorgu's biggest fan which my post history will show, but he was far from our worst player today.

He needs a few players that will win duels that aren't necessarily the best footballers. Mbeumo, Cunha, Mazraoui/Yoro seem like players that can do both, Shaw too when he's on it.

He's getting stick because he should have closed his legs for Liverpool's goal (I'll leave the mum jokes to someone else) and we generally looked shaky as soon as he came on. He doesn't offer loads other than being a game runner in attack as yet so looking shaky in defence isn't ideal. I gave him a 5/10 rating, same as Ugarte got, so I don't think he was totally hopeless but I'm a bit surprised that anybody could think he played well.
