Looks like what I thought he was before he came here. A winger, really, in the modern sense. He's rapid enough and you add Amad and Mbeumo, to that, and you see why Cunha and Sesko weren't played when we were four on two or so every other break.
 
It might not be the case but it sort of feels like... He wants to play as a winger

and yeah to some extent you can certainly say he ticks some boxes for playing wingback and thats why we signed him to play wingback under Amorim... But then when he finally has the chance to play as an actual winger he's making sure he takes his chance with some end product
 
Guy has an engine! it's such a big plus to have him in the team, as you know you are going to get someone covering the entire left side.

Really good today again from a front 3.

My concerns with his technical ability mean nothing if he plays like this. His aggression and tenacity makes up for it, and he's actually improving game by game.

I think he can be fine for a go at left back with his physicality and willingness to overlap.

Dorgu can concentrate on attacking as a LM/RM

he can concentrate on defending more when playing at LB/RB.

Asking him to do both at the same time was why Amorim wasn't getting the best out of him.

Dorgu doesn't make many defensive errors and is actually quite good in tight spaces.

I suspect what he means is hes playing well as a winger so we should continue picking him on the wing. Therefore we cant also select him at leftback
 
He's not a defender. Gareth Bale was a miscast LWB too. There I said it! Dude turned 21 in October, he's that young.

Of course, no player has been consistent and/or good under Amorim but he's pretty much always been very involved (again relatively speaking i.e bar an odd game or several moments) with lots of endeavour and purpose. The issue with him was that purpose wasn't in the right moments with a lack of final ball quality, over/under playing in buildup and being tasked with ridiculous expectations like being asked to defend in a deep back 5 and then be a 1vs1 threat in the final opposition third. That's even without mentioning his inconsistent technique.

I've been saying I see him long term as a left back for a while but who knows what his role in this team is going forward. He's a menace and long may it continue!
 
Such a small, insignificant detail in the grand scheme of things, but I love that he plays with a smile on his face.
 
Said last week I could see him being the LW going forwards. At least the rest of this season.

Will be interesting to see how he goes on but he's a major handful for whoever he comes up against.
 
He's going to be impossible to leave out of the side for the remaining 16 matches.
 
Even at Burnley you could see interesting things with him in that role, gives a great deal of penetration and his running power is hard to deal with 1 v 1. Dropped in defensively as well so was super effective in the position.

Obviously we won't play the same way in every game but I could see Mbeumo and him rotating a bit on the left, while Mbeumo and Amad rotate on the right, and then Cunha and Sesko primarily rotate up top. Wouldn't assume that we would start Mbeumo as the 9 too regularly just based on today but we'll see. Maybe more in big games.

Even more so when you consider he was signed on £40k per week, one of the lower end wages in the squad.

Worst case scenario, we have a young, very athletic utility player on relatively low wages who can to some degree cover all of LB/RB/LW/RW. Even if he ended up not being that good, it's still kinda fine.
 
Magnificent today. Touch so much better, front foot all day, worked his ass off. A bit of confidence makes so much difference.

Have we accidentally found a left winger???

I was pulling my hair out when Fletcher started him there and Cunha on the right Vs Burnley, but he ended up playing really well.

But that is now 2 games in that position, and two great performances.
 
He has some vital ingredients, even if he doesn’t possess the silky skills we all would like to see from our wingers.
He has a strong engine.
Pace.
Agility.
A dogged determination.
Not afraid to get stuck in.
He fights for the cause and doesn’t give up.
A positive, attacking mentality.
Tries to get into good crossing positions.
Not afraid to shoot when the opportunity opens up.

What’s not to like?
 
I gave him plenty of shit in matchday threads but credit where it's due he's been decent the past few weeks. I think that goal against Newcastle did him a world of good. Has been visibly playing with more confidence since that game.

Doesn’t have the technical 1v1 ability unfortunately but the engine, physically and off the ball runs will help him massively.

Brilliant few games for him now.

He doesn't have the craftiness and deftness to consistently get on the ball and create inside which is the normal expectation.

Against a team that gives space to run he can do ok.

As a fullback he gets more space to run once he gets the confidence to.do it from deeper, in my opinion.

Came into say this, was like seeing Tony but on the left. Would love to see stats on the game on distance covered, runs he made etc.
 
Dorgu is only 21. If he continues playing like this we have an important players for years to come and I think he can be good enough to be in a champions squad!
 
I said it in the match thread but he reminds me of Park in his own way. His ability to double up and help the fullback and ability to break on the ball quickly is very important in these types of games.

I was a massive critic of his but I think I misunderstood the type of player he was. He's the type of player you have in a side to add balance and do the honest work.
