He's massively improved in the last 4 games. He's been outstanding and my pick for MOTM in the last 3 before tonight.

Whether he just needed time or was under the wrong instruction I don't know, hopefully he keeps improving though and can be as good as Luke Shaw was when we first signed him.

His good performances have been on the wing. His worse performance was when Fletcher put him back at LB. It's pretty clear why Lecce were using him as a winger when we bought him.

Its so weird seeing him in advanced positions of the pitch and doing it pretty well, think this whole wing back nonsense hid what a beast he can be.

Fantastic game today and loved the sheer determination to get to the ball first for the goal.

Nah that's letting the haters off. He was always occupying high in the opponents half even as a LWB.

He's just a young player and as always people are impatient. He's demonstrated his core qualities and yes outside of that his form has fluctuated but he's shown what he can build on.

He could be a Valencia for us as he develops, although slightly different profile. He's extremely athletic and strong and it will trouble teams. Good squad option for now and if he improves his technical level he'll be great.

Very good today, worked hard going back and did the attacking stuff quite, that cross field ball to Amad was a peach.

Great movement for the goal, he knew he had to hit it right inside the post to beat Donnarumma.

His good performances have mostly been when he's had space to attack with aplomb, don't think it's mattered much whether on the wing like against Newcastle recently or at LWB like last year against Sociedad with their ridiculous naive high line that comes to mind. For now, I'm happy for him to continue developing and playing where ever it suits us and for this season it may be in front of Shaw but I wouldn't be too sure about him becoming a permanent final third wing option. I think his best attributes like ball carrying and dynamism are probably best suited in a second phase role where he's running into space after being played in with a more technical/box-direct attacker like a left wing version of Amad (or Cunha if he plays like how we want him to) in front of him.

Obviously it's all too small a sample size to really judge anything but it's an interesting time for him. On the one hand, I don't want to blunt his attacking instincts by putting him at LB because he will have to focus on shoring up his defensive game but on the other, I don't want to miss the opportunity to nurture a potential Evra/Mendes type profile of player, especially when he could be there for a decade.

Got a lot of time for relentless workers like him, he was a menace all game. 94th minute he was working as hard as we was in the 1st minute.

From a technical sense, a couple of his cross field passes were excellent. Haven't seen that since some moments from Rashford and if we are to go back further, Giggs.

I had it wrong about Dorgu. Whether long term he’s a left back I’m not sure but in them attacking positions he’s a menace - fast, powerful, aggressive and a now showing he has an eye for goal, what’s not to like.

Great game from him, definitely my Man of the Match since he was tireless and gave his opponents absolutely nothing. He obviously thrived in an environment like that, just as most of our players with big spaces to run and play into. Really really like him. And as a secure option for the left wing for the remainder of the season - why not.

Btw - played well from the left today as well, which shows that his good game as a right winger wasn't just down to him playing on the right but playing with somebody covering for him.

He's easy to like and root for, puts his head down and works hard. Hope he keeps playing well. And he really wanted that goal. Not giving up on the attacking possession, getting in front of the defender. As a fan you love to see that. He's showing confidence like he did in pre-season.

I think he's a lot more capable on the ball than people are giving him credit for. He's always a threat and I get the feeling fullbacks hate having to run with him when he goes down the outside.

He has a lot of good raw attributes and can be a real menace. Despite not being a fantastic dribbler he is great at drawing fouls. He has a knack for getting into good areas and this needs to be nurtured, along with his technical skills which need refining.

He was brilliant today, fair play to the lad. Hopefully this form continue and he defo looks better played further forward but whether he can nail down that spot long term is another story.

I think having a bulldozer type on one side and silky dribbler on the other is pretty good balance for the team. If one style isn’t working the other might.
Yes good point, good to have a variety of styles in the squad. Dorgu's final ball has been improving in recent weeks and he's just a machine up and down the wing. He doesn't have to do anything fancy, just whip the crosses in and play the simple passes.

Exactly and I think (hope) that if we expect the right things from each player we’ll not get disappointed with them.

He wasnt doing what he did today though, playing him at wingback he did not try to get into the middle of the box

When I watched highlights of him playing before we signed him other than the obvious physical qualities of his size, strength and some speed, what I was impressed by was a couple of runs he made behind the defence for club and country and when he was played in he was finishing with his left and right foot to score a few nice goals. Playing as a winger we're starting to see where he can end up as the last man in a move with a clear shooting chance and that he can take those chances if he gets them

I love that Fletcher and Carrick both had a left-footed winger on the left side, and a right-footed winger on the right side. It creates better crosses, and the winger does not have to stop to make the perfect cross with his best foot.

Considering we got rid of our wingers thanks to Amorim, it's nice to see one develop so fast.

He was meant to be doing that as wingback though, I just don't think he's ever had the confidence. Being a winger gave him more confidence in what's behind him and he seems to be playing with a load more freedom on the wing - even under Amorim.

Amad is left footed?

This lad is going to stay with us for a long time. Even if he’s an utility player, he’ll find plenty of game time at either left wing (which is his best position), left back (even if just only for his athletics), but even right wing 3rd backup option!

Side note but it seems like fullbacks are not used to traditional wingers? He is quite effective at getting at them without making extra effort.

True, I forgot about him. But my point is the same. I prefer a left-footed player as a left winger and a right-footed player as a right winger.
I think it's good to have the ability to go both ways, but the way we played today, you want that cross Cunha played with their stronger foot - agreed.

I dont think our manager wanted his wingbacks in the middle of the box. They were our only width and needed to get back and help defend. That was for the AMs, striker and maybe a CM to get in there. I'm not saying he wasnt supposed to get in the box at all, he's probably meant to be trying to come in at the back post like you'd hope a winger is to tap in a good cross. But today he became the striker and thats something you can do as a winger but is a massive gamble of being out of position and costing your team if you're playing a more defensive position

That’s so 1990’s.

I’d love to see some more variation in wingers. But with the decline in centre forwards, I can see why they are almost all inverted.

Yeah, but his goal was a text book winger/wingback goal. Literally why Marcos Alonso scored so many that season. But for sure, he was far more on the last line than he would have been as wing back.

I'd argue it's chicken and egg situation here! Goals have come more from inverted wingers in the last decade or so no one focussed on becoming a out and out striker.

It was only yesterday that people in the Wilcox thread were using this signing as a stick to beat Wilcox with...

We need 2 new LB's - it's clear this guy is an attacker and not a defender

I think he could be very good as a LB as well. He's defensively solid and has the engine to bomb forwards.

Ultimately, the biggest problem he had under Amorim was that as the wing-back he was often asked to pretty much marshal the entire left flank on his own, with little support. In a 433, whether as LB or LW, he gets another player with him out wide who he can inter-link with or run on the overlap of.

With his adaptability he'll be a useful player to have in the squad regardless.

Yeah, 100%. Loads of eejits on here who fancy themselves as super sophisticated talent spotters that can make accurate snap decisions about exactly how good a 19/20 year old footballer will ever become. Nobody really has a fecking clue how good young players will eventually turn out. Dorgu definitely showed he has something about him during pre-season. Anyone who completely wrote him off after a few poor performances earlier this season will probably (hopefully!) end up looking pretty stupid in another year or two.

He often found himself in the box last season as well. Although it was competing for headers most of the time or picking up a loose ball.

Of course as a wingback you'll often arrive as the second or third player in the box and not the first one, which you might as a winger.

Well yes Alonso used to gamble a lot. I dont think he would be doing that under Amorim
