He's playing like Luis Diaz now he's on the wing and closer to the area.
 
I think we can confirm the lads an attacking forward player, this wing back full back nonsense is done and dusted.

Been his biggest critic but he's coming on leaps and bounds.

Can’t be stressed enough how different it is having a full back behind you when out on the wing, gives so much more freedom to express yourself.
Dorgu barely looked a footballer under Amorim’s shit system, but since Newcastle he’s shown quality I didn’t know he had once played in his proper position.
 
Originally it seemed like it was madness putting so much attacking emphasis in him when he seemed so limited as an attacker.

But now he's playing further forward without having to cover the whole wing he's suddenly emerged as a decent option.

To be fair, he had never played wingback before he came here but he had played left back frequently. He's definitely not a wing back but in a decent attacking team I think he will also be a very good at left back.

Antonee Robinson is one of if not the best left backs in the league purely on his Athleticism, work rate and crossing, Robertson and Nico O'Riley are another two top from LB's from this league with similar profiles. Dorgu definitely falls into that category.

Yes, the expectation to effectively play two roles whilst the 3 CBs can stroll around passing amongst them selves from left to right, and back was unfair.

He turned 21 in October!!! Not every player is ready made. We have a rough diamond we can polish. He has the right physical profile for the league, and with room for growth. Believe in the growth.
 
The yesterday game and the Burnley game showed why he should have been an ideal wingback and we signed the right profile of wingback for Amorim because he has something to offer in attacking threat, he has the physicality and pace, has great work rate, and has the engine to run up and down. Amorim didn’t coach him properly to get the best out of him as wingback IMO or may be Dorgu was inconsistent.
 
I don't think its positional. He is just starting to come into his own now with a year of experience behind him.

I can see the rationale in this but he'll be pretty useless in that position against teams that sit back. He'll constantly run into defenders and struggle for pace.

In the scenarios, he might be a wonderful LB who is constantly providing an outlet and for the likes of cunha to find space on the inside
 
Fair play, that was a good performance. With him and Amad we have two wingers who will take so much pressure off any fullback
 
Team's the most developed player this season? Not a silky smooth player but very useful player. I have started to like this signing. Attitude is simply one of the most important things in football. And this team have lacked about it for a while already. Dorgu has that attitude.

At the very least we have more options in this new setup. 3-4-3 limited us so much
 
Quietly putting together a good season, playing a number of different positions. He’s absolutely relentless out there.
 
The next Ji Sung Park. Player for the big games who is put in for his physical qualities and can pop up with a big goal.
 
I'd continue playing him on left wing. He stretches the defence (that needs to defend full width of the pitch), can cross but will also generate corners - and we're good at that.

Shaw can easily play LB for the remaining of the season as we play once per week. Dorgu is also best in class defensively as a winger so he'll give Luke plenty support.

I like him a lot. His athletism seems to surprise opponents. And he is definitely on decent technical level despite some posters moaning about his technique lately.
 
Berrada and Wilcox are like, that's the new left winger sorted then.

I do think he'll have a career at United, his stamina and work rate are elite. He's only 20/21, there's countless examples of class players only becoming their best versions around 23-26. Hell, Carrick was playing in Championship with West Ham at 23.
 
It seems clear to me that he's still absolutely a LB. Some of you would have had Evra, or Theo Hernandez, or Marcelo at LW! We have already seen in the modern game how extraordinarily impactful attacking FBs like Mendes and Hakimi can be. I am sure our decision makers are mindful of that.

He has strong defensive qualities already which will only get better over time. He does not switch off like AWB did, for example. He has plenty of game intelligence.

Let him play in attack periodically (especially in games like this) over the next few years, to further develop his attacking qualities, and we will have a top class attacking LB in a few years time.

We have no good left wing options so it's a good thing he can play there. Wouldn't rule out him playing LB in the future, we haven't actually seen him play there yet.

He was improving under Amorim towards the end regardless so hopefully it's just a case of him getting more comfortable after he's bedded in. Hopefully will prove a good option in both positions

Least we’ve finally found a role for him. It helps that shaws been fit. Dorgu will be very useful against big teams on the wing.

He's like a young Valencia isn't he. Still a bit of a rough diamond but what a beast of a performance yesterday.

Genuinely can’t recall one instance where he was bodied by a defender, certainly not enough for you to say he was losing the ball. Was holding the ball well, progressing with the ball, making the right decisions to not lose the ball. Must’ve watched a different game fella

Besides the goal. Most fouled player on the pitch. Most duels won. Most tackles. Joint most shots on target.

Yeah I don't see him being useful against a deep defence for instance so you probably stick him LB in those games to deal with counters.

What I found interesting yesterday was how often he and Amad dropped into central positions covering for Bruno and Mainoo. Usually the midfielders would cover the wide spaces left by the wingers but we inverted it somewhat. For that you need defensively solid and aggressive wingers, Garnacho for instance couldn't do it.

His form will fluctuate so he's still going to have bad periods, no doubt people will quickly jump back to being overly critical.
 
whod have thought it, a highly rated young player needs time and coaching to develop and for it all to click. only a few weeks ago a lot of the caf were calling him dogshit.

I'm sure he will improve in that regard the more he plays against it.
When he played under Amorim, he looked nervous, as if he wasn't sure whether to attack or defend, I think yesterday Carrick just asked him to get up that wing when we have the ball, and drop in when we haven't, but without the added pressure of being the wing back.
