It seems clear to me that he's still absolutely a LB. Some of you would have had Evra, or Theo Hernandez, or Marcelo at LW! We have already seen in the modern game how extraordinarily impactful attacking FBs like Mendes and Hakimi can be. I am sure our decision makers are mindful of that.

He has strong defensive qualities already which will only get better over time. He does not switch off like AWB did, for example. He has plenty of game intelligence.

Let him play in attack periodically (especially in games like this) over the next few years, to further develop his attacking qualities, and we will have a top class attacking LB in a few years time.

Exactly this. Being a good attacker and being a fullback aren’t mutually exclusive. After all the complaints in the past about his ability in tight spaces and one on one situations, I’m surprised people have now switched to preferring him being exclusively a winger.

Great asset to have. Then we spoilt to have Amad who had 4 more sprints than him. 30 versus 26.

There were several cases where the City wingers had the ball and both Dorgu and Amad sprinted back to double them. Work rate was exceptional

This guy has been incredible in the last 6 games. 2 goals, 2 assists, work rate growing, impact growing and decisions improving. Hard to think that in December a lot of people including myself were questioning him. 25m right now feels like a potential bargain. Can play left back left and right wing, can he do a job at right back? I reckon he could do it better than Dalot. I see his future at left back, Shaw natural successor. His inclusion on sat was totally justified. He was everywhere. We need him to keep doing and getting better and better. We also forget this guy is 21, in a new league and playing on a team with confusing dynamics. Hes shown he can adapt. Looking forward to watching his career at United to see how it evolves. Early days still but you can certainly see the spark coming.

I'd continue playing him on left wing. He stretches the defence (that needs to defend full width of the pitch), can cross but will also generate corners - and we're good at that.

Shaw can easily play LB for the remaining of the season as we play once per week. Dorgu is also best in class defensively as a winger so he'll give Luke plenty support.

Obviously you don’t always see pre-season form converted into league form but - at the very least - if we’re talking about a young player it shows he has potential. To completely dismiss the evidence of our own eyes was so ridiculous. Great to see him hitting that level of form again. Been terrific recently. Could well turn out to be one of our better signings of the post-Fergie era.

I wasn't sure what type of player he was until he was played at right wing. Until then he seemed to either doubt his ability when playing wingback, and/or didn't know when to attack and when to defend. It was a shite system throughout, and now that Fletcher/Carrick simplified things for him, he knows exactly what he is supposed to do.

His basic technique (we call it "useful" technique) is good enough. He now trusts himself on the ball and gets away from tight situations.

I do believe that he might be the best defensive winger around, the way he defended channels vs City was exceptional. Apart from that, he is a constant threat. I think having him and Amad working hard but also providing constant threat with runs in behind make it easy to play with for the midfielders.

Time will tell if he can stay on this level, but I'm optimistic as again he does the basics on a high level and is always making it difficult for the opponents. I personally like that kind of players, just a joy to watch this raw ability. He's like an anti Sancho for us.

I was probably most critical and I wrote him off for being a wing back.

Is it? LWB is a very niche position and not easy to take to. And my take was he will be a utility/squad player for us and noted his physical tenacity is his best asset.

None of that has changed, unless you think he's displacing Cunha in the long term.

Agreed. I think there were some legit criticisms of his touch and decision making (and he is only 21 and coming from Lecce) but I feel people were ignoring his obvious qualities: his engine, physicality, workrate is not normal-it’s top tier. Also his tackling stats were pretty impressive iirc.

30 million for a young developing player on a relatively low wage who can play either full back role and further forward is looking pretty good business.

Right now I'd say the plan for him should be 2nd choice at LW and LB, giving us an attacking option at LB against weaker teams/off the bench and a defensive/proper wide option at LW in tougher games. Basically a stronger, left-sided version of someone like Jesus Navas or Lucas Vazquez.

Extremely useful type of player, even if he doesn't develop the technical skill to be our 1st choice LB once Shaw breaks down, and I guess the hope is that's Amass.

For now, he and Cunha and Mbeumo are so different in profiles as our LW options that Carrick has to get which one to play right.

Yeah, that was my initial reaction too...great attitude from Dorgu and proved Amorim's comments had the desired result.

Not every comment needs to be glowing praise from the coaches.
