He's our new Antonio Valencia. Which I'm perfectly fine with.
He's not very similar... Valencia was much faster, more direct, stronger, went past people more easily and looked stronger overall. Dorgu is 21 though, and can improve both his speed and ability to go past players. I think considering their age, Dorgu has really good potential - even Bale at 21 wasn't all that impressive..

Yeah, that was my initial reaction too...great attitude from Dorgu and proved Amorim's comments had the desired result.

Not every comment needs to be glowing praise from the coaches.

Agreed, but the main question is about whether Amorim needed to do it so publicly. We all know that players regularly got the hairdryer from Ferguson, but he largely kept such things in house and built a siege mentality against external forces like journalists.

Watched Kerkez today
He had a lot of fans on here I recall that were begging for us to sign him!

I would say Park is a more apt comparison. Versatile, hard-working and even his poor performances on the ball are compensated somewhat by his nonstop running. These are all assets which make him tailor-made for the big games where we have less possession.

Valencia stopped going past people as soon as defenders just showed him the inside.....Antony in reverse!

I feel people were ignoring his obvious qualities: his engine, physicality, workrate is not normal-it’s top tier. Also his tackling stats were pretty impressive iirc.
I don't think people were "ignoring" this, it was more about picking up on every single bad touch or pass and making a fuss about him not being "technical" enough for us. At the same time, Cunha was giving away balls left right and center and his technique wasn't a problem. It was very unfair because even when Dorgu started scoring / assisting, he was consistently "dropped" in fans putting out their XI for next games.

His physical attributes were always top notch, but only now we see his useful those can be when put into a correct role in the pitch.

The thing that many football fans seem to miss (both stat nerds and "eye-test" enthusiasts) is you can't have a team full of Partick Dorgu's - just as you can't have a team of Juan Mata's. Balance is the key and Dorgu is an important puzzle in that picture, but because of that you have to look at him through slightly different lens.

Last season he was excellent, and showed a great deal of promise & potential.

Nice (not for the player) to see someone going to Liverpool and struggling to adapt.

No guarantees is there?
Look at Baleba and Anderson now;
He's playing well now, He isn’t, Pay them what they want, He is a flash in the pan, He is worth 100mil!
Adapting to a new team and surroundings is fraught with danger.

Real chance to cement his place following his brilliant display against City. Think he could be key for us because right now he’s probably underestimated by rival full backs, managers and fans as he’s a bit of an unknown quantity as a winger in the PL. people know what to expect from Mbuemo, Bruno and even Amad to a lesser degree.

Not all true. Valencia had a couple of seasons where players tried to stick with him, doubled up, but he was simply too fast and powerful - Dorgu has yet to show any such ability. Dorgu has brilliant stamina, similar to that of a prime Valencia, but he doesn't have that extra gear or acceleration that enabled Valencia to blitz past players. You don't often see Dorgu take on a man and go past him successfully other than running in behind, which I think he has improved on - he took on Walker numerous times, for instance.

Yeah, maybe, a more powerful Park - players like Dorgu, Amad, Park, Valencia, Rooney etc all are valuable even when they have a stinker because they work so hard both on and off the ball and thus cover so much grass. A player like Zirkzee, on the other hand, when playing badly offers absolutely nothing.

Would you stick with Dorgu on the left against Arsenal to also cover defensively against Saka, or would you rather Cunha for that extra quality on the ball? I actually think I would prefer Doku based on his latest performances and rather put on Cunha if we are chasing a goal in the second half. Dorgu has proven that he can exploit spaces in behind, and that he works relentlessly off the ball in defense.

He, like Frimpong, is a wingback, and they both show the potential folly of displacing wingbacks and trying to make them anything else. Liverpool are struggling on both flanks because of that.

If we were still a wingback team, those kind of players would be desirable.

Thank the stars we’re not.

Funny how Liverpool didn't hire Amorim but seemed to buy Amorim style players. Even Wirtz would have been good in an Amorim system, hypothetically.

Yeah. Strange world.

Fortunately, Liverpool are lumped with them, but probably Xabi in soon and it all works itself out.

I’d play Dorgu. It’s his to lose right now

Weren't Bournemouth playing a 4 at the back when Kerkez played for them last season?

He’s been eyed up as a wingback and mostly got credited for playing like one as Bournemouth were set up to let him run the flank. Bit like saying Trent is a FB when all conditions were set up for him to not be.

Dorgu thread...filling up with chat about the dipper's angry whippet...

Glad to see the lad doing well...many wrote him off FAR too early.

Dorgu must start today. He has the energy and drive.
Ars 0 - Utd 2.

Quinton Fortune for me.

Two of our best goals this season came from him.

Who could've predicted this?

What a goal.

First half he couldnt seem to do anything right, but then he made a couple of good passes with Bruno and then smashed in goal of the month

Again he is still really raw, and I don't think he's ever going to be some tricky winger. But clearly the scouting department were right to have him on our list, because he has ability, that goal was incredible.

Someone needs to explain, WHAT THE feck IS HAPPENING TO DORGU!!!

Now he's becoming a gooalscoring winger.

Hopefully it's only a strain.

Cracking player with a fantastic work rate.

That will be our GOTS.

He’s a big problem for the opposition.

They don’t like his appetite for the game at all.

No Smoke Dorgu.
