We will probably make the CL without him, and there is no way for us to go higher in the table, so no need to rush him at this point. It is better that he gets absolutely fit before being let loose in this situation. For me he is the solution on left wing. He runs up and down the pitch and presses relentlessly. We have seen him doing his best against the very best at this position and his defensive work is so much better than Cunhas. Right now everyone attacks our left side knowing that Shaw cannot cover everything. We are getting killed by incoming crosses all the time. The Dorgunator left, Cunha at 9 and Mbuemo running the right side is our strongest attack as I see it. Having Amad, Sesko and Mount coming in from the bench is quite good as well.

It’s interesting how careful PL footballers have to be with rehab. I tore the crap out of my hamstring a couple of weeks after Dorgu. Grade two tear, back of my leg went black from mid thigh to upper calf and was on crutches for first few days. I’ve been back playing sport for three weeks now and I am a) not an extremely fit professional athlete and b) ancient.
With the amount of injuries, long terms, we have been dealing with over the last decade or two, i would say it is a sensible approach to be extra careful. Playing PL footy seems to be pretty tough on the body for most players not named Bruno.

I think read somewhere that the way you handle your first hamstring tear is extremely crucial for how prone you will be in the future. It is very likely that since this was his first (I think) they are being really, really careful about it.

Definitely back the decision to take it extremely slowly with him. I'd be glad in a way if that is what we're doing, club have a duty of care and need to do right by him.

Hopefully he comes back for the last couple of games and goes to the World Cup.

Another injury aside, it would likely serve more purpose than just writing him off until next season.

Yeah makes sense. Want to do everything possible to avoid scar tissue which is prone to tearing again. At my age that ship has sailed!

Must be super frustrating for the players though as he’ll have been pain free and feeling completely fine for ages by now.

It's now 3 months out for Dorgu (will be by the time we play next game).

I guess it's the season over for the lad. Shame, I really enjoyed his performances but probably makes no sense to push him back on the pitch with current league situation.

If he recovers to the point he’s fit to play matches, he should play. And I’m sure he’ll be itching to do so.

I hope to see him get a proper run out at left back over the remainder of the season in order to really assess his level there. He started there against Brighton for Fletch and did okay I felt, and then played two games on the wing and made a big impact, but I’d like to see more of him at left back. Particularly alongside Cunha who could use a full back like that.

I’ve been looking forward to see this combo since we moved to a 4ATB formation. Of course, the moment he’s available for a match, Cunha’s injured.

Was our most exciting player in that two game spell where we looked good.

Was trying to compare Dorgu's stats with Diouf and happened to notice that Dorgu is averaging 17 duels contested per 90 minute. Absolute madman. Even Anderson who is contesting the most duels is on 14.8. Pretty sure Dorgu is leading this stat in all of PL. So busy defensively, yet still providing more chances created than players like Diouf and Kayode. Feel like we're underrating him a bit in terms of what he offers on the pitch, really miss his energy and drive.

The end of the season is a free hit for him now. Hopefully he can get back into fitness and come back all guns blazing into preseason and really stake a claim as a starter. Imagine him and Diouf on the left? It wouldn't be pretty technically but it would be very hard to stop...

No world cup, CL qualification all but sealed...only money between coming 3rd or 5th is any reason he is needed with any urgency.

Seems very much a forgotten man with all the talk of us needing a left back and/or left winger...mention Dorgu and people say he is neither it was just AMorims system....in that case what the hell is he supposed to be?

Personally think he is the ideal player for what we require at either full back position as he can play on the right too, actually like the idea of him at right back and he also excelled for a couple of games at left wing so is cover there. I think his versatility and an astute similar signing in Mateus Mane would allow us to spend rally big on 2/3players for priority positions as I am not so much of the opinion a lb. lw or striker are priorities this summer ahead of other positions

The combination with Shaw as LB and Dorgu on the left wing has been the bet for us in this season. Dorgus engine and defensive strengths helps Shaw play to his strengths as we saw it against City and Arsenal. If they could do it against the strongest opposition then why not against everyone else?

Being able to play two positions (or three even: LB, LW, RW) is a huge benefit for him and for the team.

For Dorgu, it gives him increased chances of playing time. For the team, it gives plenty of versatility and options.

Home against bottom of the table, or chasing game in the second half, then Dorgu at LB is an obvious choice.

Away against top of the league, or closing out a narrow lead with 10 minutes to go, or up against opposition with high quality attacking wing backs and you need at least one winger who can defend, then Dorgu on the wing is an obvious choice.

Think we need to keep him as a winger atm, Mbeumo and Amad are not up to much so hopefully he can kick them both into gear.

Duels can be offensive too, I think this is why. Not only will he try to win the ball, but he will also try and run the ball which will invariably become a physical duel with him. And hes quite tall so he'll go in for aerials too

I think it could work if we get old Shaw's crossing from 3-4 years ago. Of course Dorgu's own had slightly improved when he was playing on the wing before injury, but still if he can make ground down the left and find Shaw to get some of his best crossing in then it could be a good combination

Yeah probably, but still think it's quite high if you compare it to other backs/wingbacks.

Dorgu: 17 duels per 90
Pedro Porro: 8.5 per 90
Malo Gusto: 7.3 per 90
Cucurella: 7.6 per 90
Dalot: 7.8 per 90
Timber: 9.4 per 90

Massive difference. Can't wait to have him back, really.

If he secure enough in his passing and technical ability to play LB? You could give the ball to Shaw in any circumstances and we’d keep possession.

On the other hand, Shaw provides very little offensively whereas Dorgu does so I guess there's a balance to it. You can't have everything.

Surely there are more demands on passing and technical ability as a winger than a LB? If we’re willing to play him as a winger, then I don’t see why we can’t try him at LB
too (from a technical perspective).

More demands in terms of creativity sure, but not in terms of passing accuracy and retention - losing the ball in your own half is far more dangerous than losing it in the opponents half. That’s why it’s so important to have technically sound defenders (and to be clear this is a general comment, not one on Dorgu).

Man Utd 3:2 Liverpool New
You sort of have to let him off because of what he's coming back from but ffs he does scream another low IQ player in the making. Needed to hold the ball for some sort of control and he decided to take pot shots from 25 yards out.

No problem. he will score a wonder goal in next couple games and all will be forgiven.

Seriously, He should just be a back-up winger. I'd like him as fullback more.

He is a young player with raw skills. I don't think his technique is not good enough to be a winger IMO and he can be a great attacking full back potentially.

I always felt he was unfairly criticised before but he has become overhyped since his injury because he was in good form, he has never been the answer on the wings outside of being an option to develop.

He is versatile, has a great knack of finding himself in good positions, winning the ball and also winning fouls. His injury came at the worst time because it would have been good to see him have a run at LB to help us better understand how desperately we need to pursue one in the summer. He should be our new Park/O'Shea.

Good to see him back, and I appreciate his inevitable rust - but today was another demonstration of why I’m against this idea of him being a de facto winger for us. He just doesn’t have the quality, and he’s not like Alphonso Davies fast either anyway. I think he has enough quality in the toolbox to be a top left back, but no way enough quality to be a consistent United forward. And it’s not a criticism of him, it’s unfair to ask it of him. We need to have one of the best wingers in the game, he’s never going to be that.

Now that we’ve secured CL I’d like to see Dorgu get some starts. The rust needs to come off.

Man. The guy was just out for three months coming in to this game. It would be strange if he was not rusty. Judgements about his future are not to be taken seriously after a 20 minutes cameo this afternoon. He was our player of the month before the injury, so hold your horses and let him get back first.

He looked a bit slow which is understandable. No issue with his commitment though. Hope he gets back to his best because we need options on the left and Mount isn't it.

I'm just glad he's back. That left side looked more secured and functional, once he's on the field.
