We should give him the last 3 games at LB for evaluation's sake.

Absolutely this. Shaw is a shadow of the player he was, we need to evaluate our left back situation and see whether Dorgu can contribute meaningfully there.

Good to see him back, and I appreciate his inevitable rust - but today was another demonstration of why I’m against this idea of him being a de facto winger for us. He just doesn’t have the quality, and he’s not like Alphonso Davies fast either anyway. I think he has enough quality in the toolbox to be a top left back, but no way enough quality to be a consistent United forward. And it’s not a criticism of him, it’s unfair to ask it of him. We need to have one of the best wingers in the game, he’s never going to be that.
To be fair, did he not just come back from a high grade hamstring tear? I thought some of the balls played through to him were pretty stupid considering it was his first game back after it. I think today wasn't a good day to judge his pace or quality.

I agree with starting him the last 3 at LB.

Let’s see if he’s an option there.

I acknowledged his inevitable rust, and my assessment of his pace and quality in general isn’t really limited to today to be fair. That said, what I saw today of his pace and quality is generally not out of keeping with my understanding of those facets, and what I think he has shown for a year or so. But that’s just me, of course.

I really want to see him at left back for the next 3.

That's fair.

I would as well, just to see something different at this point. Shaw can't be out first choice next season.

I’m inclined to agree with you. It’s difficult to explain, but I always get the feeling that he’s not running at 100 % (not just today, but in general).

Either way, it’ll be good to see him for the next three games. He was doing great pre injury.

I want to see him as a LB.

I hope the club don't count on him as a winger. He's not good enough for that role.

You can’t adjust passes depending on how likely you think a team mate is to tear his hamstring. He wouldn’t be allowed near the pitch unless they were 100% certain he could sprint as fast as possible without injuring himself. That’s all part of the assessment he’ll have passed before getting back to full training, never mind playing match.

He did look rusty as hell though. Loads of heavy touches.

That's true, but some were just ridiculous "chase this aimless channel ball down". Anyway, glad he's back.

Thought he was good, albeit tripped over himself taking decisions at times but I think that's normal for a young player who has been out for a while. It was noticeable that Shaw was managing to actually get himself up into attack once Dorgu was on the pitch, they have a nice understanding.

The hype on here after City/Arsenal, and for months since he's got injured on how much we miss him on that left wing... His first game back as a sub and it's "we need to try him at left back instead".

We do need to decide his position for next season really as we'll either sign a winger or left back in the summer but I doubt we'll sign both.

While he can fill in on the wing and it's useful on occasion, long term I don't have the slightest doubt in my mind that he's a left back. You can get away with more gaps in your talent when playing full back compared to on the wing for a big side, you really need to be top class and I don't see that level in him. Could be wrong though! Glad he's back anyway, though it's for basically end of season friendlies at this point

Patrick Dorgu is not a viable option at left back, his first touch is not good enough, it’s almost as if he doesn’t know how to open his body up properly, and his right foot is for standing on.

There’s 0% chance we don’t spend big on a left back this summer

Left wing will have to wait, unless something very unusual happens

Glad to see that others see him in the left back role as I thought it was just me. At his best I can see him being an extra attacker from the full back position and he still has areas of his game he can work on to become even better.

Still would like and extra left sided defender that can probably cover centre back too while we phase out Shaw. This is dependent on keeping Martinez healthy though.

Needs some more minutes to get up to speed, but great to have him back. Gives up more options going forward. I actually wouldn't mind seeing him on the right vs. Sunderland. He played that position a lot in Italy, and Mbeumo and Amad just aren't feeling it right now.

I'm not sure his first touch is bad at all. Even last season he was picking out "Arry's 30 yard passes and killing them stone dead. During pre-season under no pressure he was our best player and it wasn't until we got back to Old Trafford when his technique looked hurried again.

Playing as a winger, before the injury , he seemed to be performing as he was pre-season.

IMO his technical ceiling is quite high, he just needs games to get comfortable with PL intensity again at 21 years old.

This is the first time I realize how tall he is, 1,85m for a winger is rather uncommon I guess? He's the size of Gateth Bale and similar to him he uses his frame to his advantage.

He moves in a weird way that he's always looking for a tiny bit of space that he can run into, and his pace and power combined actually make it quite efffective. The weird part about it it doesn't look silky but I don't think the opposition defence have figured it out how to stop him. Even vs Liverpool, despite looking very rusty, he was finding this space and making runs into dangerous zone. Now compare that to Amad who is almost completelly nullified when not at the edge of the box. Two different players, but I have to say I am quite a fan of Dorgu. He will lose the ball here and make a bad decision there, but I just like the raw ability and athletism that comes with him.

Will give him a pass as he just came back after long term out, but boy did he really show really low IQ and poor decision making in all three occasions.

First was the slow pass by Cunha on his left peg, could have taken a shot first time, tried to come inside and fell on the ground, then another counter great opportunity with players all around him making runs and he takes a shot which is no where close out for a goal kick. Lastly a great counter in the last minute with Bruno running through oneside and Amad on another side, all he needed was to pass him, he tried to run through Jones and gave away a foul.

Seriously at that moment, my only thought was in Champions League matches I have seen players doing unbelievable things with the ball, and their decision making is spot on every time, whereas we have Dalot and Dorgu like players who are just very poor and their decision making is awful, you do not get 3 to 4 chances to play final ball and eventually get them right, by that time you could already be out of the tie, but i guess we are just not at that level difficult of top Champions league sides.

Hope he starts today and shakes off the rust.

Thought he was awkward on the ball against Liverpool, which is to be expected after a layoff, but he constantly took up good positions and helped us alleviate pressure. He seems to move way more naturally further up, so I can't see a future for him as a fullback.

He looked very slow and rusty. Definitely isn’t ready for a start. I’d imagine he will get 30 minutes today and similar over the last few games. I would definitely like to see him tried as a left back in a couple of those games though.

Sunderland 0:0 Man Utd New
Best player today, a level above the rest.

Would have liked to have seen him start today, looks like Carrick understandably wanted to give a chance to a couple of others to figure out how to approach the transfer window. Provided a lot of impetus when he came on and so am happy with that

Love his hard running, I always get the impression, Bruno & Mbeumo aside, that our other players never run full pelt, it’s nice seeing him trying to get to the byline.
I think a lot of it is that hes faster and can track back quickly enough. He has endless stamina, fast accel, and fast top speed. Means he can be everywhere.

It does but our lot look in 3rd gear most the time compared to most teams, Dorgu provides exactly what you said. Hopefully stays fit next season and gets enough minutes.

The engine and enthusiasm of this lad is superb. Some nice touches and interplay with those around him. Good option for the left flank going forward. Nice cameo appearance today, easing his way back in after a lengthy spell out...could well start next match.

He’s really good at running into space. Seems pretty clear Carrick sees he and Cunha are our LW options next season

Good cameo. I do like how he fires the ball into his teammates. Although, Cunha looked like he reacted late to that chance.

We're finished if that's the case. We need a specialist lw. There are actually good teams in the CL and we're going to struggle badly if that's what we show up with.
