That had me seething….That was very much the Dorgu of last season on display today. What the hell was he up to after he failed to convert from Bruno's pass and the ball was still in play?

I think he'll be a good left back. He scored one (let's be honest) flukey volley from range and it makes people think he's a left winger? No chance. He has 0 creativity to his game, he can't dribble, he's not explosive. He's a hard worker, steady technique and can be a support player with the odd decent cross. That's a left back. Never a winger.
I can see us using him for a year at left wing as it's an expensive position to spend on, might be cheaper to buy a left back and Shaw will need replacing in a year anyway. But yeah his future is definitely as a left back.Been saying it. Didn’t even have enough attacking quality to be a wing back, he obviously doesn’t have enough to be one of our front 3 with any consistency.
Agreed. Should only be a back up LB. He’s not it.Really poor player technique wise. I dont care if he just came back from injury, he was the same before it.
When he was injured everyone was saying how much we missed him, now he’s only just back and he’s already being criticised as not being good enough. Gotta love the caf
Probably doesn't entirely trust his hamstring after the bad tear. His intensity (and technique) for the matches against Newcastle, City and Arsenal were great. What a weird cameo from him. Was he drunk? Felt like he was mentally prepared to come on for the remainder of the match and just trudged along. I’m not saying he’s a shit player but that was such an annoying performance.

Just interested, have people forgotten how exciting he was looking on the wing pre injury or they just disagree that he was?
For me the main caveat, or question mark, with that is that the whole team was absolutely flying during those games - there was definitely the Carrick new manager bounce in effect. It's difficult to fully judge how sustainable that performance level would be from just the snapshot of those few games alone.

Yeah that’s probably it. He was much better in those games as you said, so I’m not writing him off by any means.Probably doesn't entirely trust his hamstring after the bad tear. His intensity (and technique) for the matches against Newcastle, City and Arsenal were great.
He'll be good next season.
I think the body of work from the year before that is what's on peoples mind. That exciting period was about 4 or 5 games and seems a distant memory looking at him today. Looks more a purple patch rather than some magical Bale/Saka style level up due to a position change.Just interested, have people forgotten how exciting he was looking on the wing pre injury or they just disagree that he was?
The exciting period was when he got played as a winger. At his age it's tricky to play in the Premier league as a wing back after playing primarily as a winger in a less intense league.I think the body of work from the year before that is what's on peoples mind. He’s literally had 135…maybe 180 good minutes for us.That was very much the Dorgu of last season on display today. What the hell was he up to after he failed to convert from Bruno's pass and the ball was still in play?
I am logical enough to see that 180 minutes where we had the element of surprise by playing a player out of position in a team set up to counter attack doesn’t replace the evidence of 30+ other gamesJust interested, have people forgotten how exciting he was looking on the wing pre injury or they just disagree that he was?

He's very direct and when that doesn't come off it can make a player look a bit clumsy.
I hope he doesn't play with fear in future because of negative fan reactions from those with short memories. When he's confident he looks a real threat.
But Valencia had brilliant technique, was much, much faster both in terms of top speed and acceleration, much stronger and was more capable of taking on his man. So their similarity is what exactly?I'll say it again, not a winger. Doesn't have the technical skills for it. Best he could be is a budget Antonio Valencia.
Erm he’s scored a few beautiful goals hasn’t he? One flukey volley is not correct. He was unplayable before the injuryI think he'll be a good left back.
