Was among the first last season to say it’s a big season for this boy; here’s hoping for a repeat!

Got a lot of things going for him, if he puts it all together, we’ve some player.

Would like to see us using him as right winger from time to time. I think he has done well in that position in the national team, when they use him there.

Excited to see how he develops this season. Looking forward to the bangers he will score too.

He's a full on enigma.

Nobody knows his position.

Nobody knows if he's rubbish or great. It legit could be either right now.

I kind of like it.

If he is an attacker, he's probably going to be best on the right, inverted like most wingers are. We're just sticking him on the left wing because we already have two left footed players on the right side in Mbeumo/Amad, so the left is where there's a space for him.

I'm still sceptical whether he's talented enough to be an attacker at this level of club long term.

I would say he keeps proving people wrong. Let's just see. I think he's talented and he's definitely not phased by the bigger opponents. He takes a few games to get going

I thought he did well yesterday. He's not the type who will take on and try to dribble past defenders but his general footballing intelligence & positioning in tight spaces seems extremely good. He's a very different attacker to what we are used to normally seeing. May or may not work out in the long term.

I'd argue he serves a specific purpose on the left - stretches the game horizontally (what gives more space for inverted wingers on the right to play more centrally). He also stretches the game vertically as he makes a lot of runs in behind. That's why he's such an useful player to have.

Individually, it's possible he's more dangerous from the right, but in the whole team context I doubt we're going to use him there often.

Remains a very confusing player, but he works hard and can really crack a ball and he doesn't try to take a million touches when he shouldn't. All good qualities while we figure out whatever the hell position he should play.

Hopefully he confuses some opposing teams as well.

His size, speed and movement isn't something most teams know how to defend against. I really want a 1 vs 1 specialist winger problem is, between Dorgu and Cunha, I'm not sure we have space for one.

In my opinion he has deserved to be given the chance and trust to be played as a Winger this season, instead of us investing.

I truly hope we dont do him the disservice of considering him as a left back. He very clearly is an attacking player. Can do a Job at lb if we are chasing a game, sure. But his qualities are as an attacker imho.

Part of me fears that he will be considered at lb if we cant get rid of Rashford.

I said last season that the sample size of games is too small to know if we can trust him in the position long-term and we should invest in another winger.
I think Carrick wants to move to a possession-based side, and we risk being a team having endless possession without breaking teams down.
We need a winger that commits defenders in 1v1 situations, and I don't think Dorgu is that player... it's why I wanted Summerville.

Honestly, I’ve started to love watching Dorgu play, his pace and power gives us something different and the lad just doesn’t top trying, hopefully he rotates for the LW with Cunha when we need someone to try and bulldoze their through.

His runs in behind will cause a lot of teams problems this season I predict.

Although I echo the confusion around his somewhat unorthodox skillset, I do think from day one here the only things that have been evident about him are that he runs all day, has good strength, and has really nice movement running into the opposition third. Question marks were about what he did with it when he got there e.g. crossing/shooting, concentration and losing the ball too easily with his short passing, and sometimes his defensive positioning/tackling.

It seems to me very clear that he's worked incredibly hard on his shooting, his concentration is a lot better than it was, and his crossing is more consistent. As such, it seems that those qualities make him more of a winger than a defender at the moment. Having said that I still reckon he could do a job at full back if we needed him to, just that his actual stand out qualities now seem to put him more as a winger.

I don't think Dorgu would contribute to that, merits of the approach aside. He is direct and will just come inside and look to smash the ball the second he gets it. Plays flicks too. Amad is more the kind of player you're talking about.

He's probably my favourite player and I'm not sure he's miles off being our best player. Raw but a huge threat.

I wish he was more of a cnut. The goal he scored against Arsenal, he seemed embarrassed to celebrate. Rub it in their fecking faces, I say.

He's a wild card, throw him on and he'll cause enough chaos to change games.

I think in a year or two he may be a very good LB for now he just needs minutes to refine it all and confirm his position.

Same feeling too. I dont like players at a young age being played in multiple positions. I always feel they lose any identity of the player the could be. I feel once they learn the trade in one role. You can introduce them to another, but thats further on in their development.

The way I see the modern game, Dorgu just isn’t a left wing starter. A good option in certain games but certainly not a starter.

He’s either a utility option or a fullback that’s being let down with the current development plan.

I think a player like Dorgu can be incredibly useful in such a system - having someone that physical who can make powerful runs and stretch play can disrupt defences and open up space for the more technical players.

Meh, his best games have come as a starter in games against top level opposition. The benefit of having different options is that you can adjust your line up based on the opposition or the type of game you’re expecting. Sometimes Dorgu will be a starter and sometimes Cunha will be, just like with Mbeumo and Amad on the other side.

Still not sure about his best position. I mean would you throw him in with 15 mins to play when we badly need to score and need that extra soark? Probably not

Takes a first touch with utter surprise that the ball has arrived at his feet. Generally formulates an idea about what he might, tentatively, all being well...do with the ball around his third or fourth touch, by which point he's usually out of possession.
Fantastic physical attributes, might be a late bloomer...currently his best moments occur when he doesn't have time to think about what he's doing.

A late bloomer at 21?

Not what we need at the LW position. He'll have his uses in some games but he's just not technically efficient or purposeful enough to occupy that position long term. His physicality is very good and he can genuinely be a menace in games where there's enough space to counter but if we anywhere near as good as i think we'll be this season that won't be many games.

Yeah, in the sense that he didn't sign for a professional team until he was 18 at Lecce...so you'd expect rougher edges than someone bred through academies like...idk Lacey (8), Fati (10)...etc

Ah I see. Well I think so then in that case. Makes sense.

Last year in pre-season I was very impressed with his tenacity and improvement but then the season started and Amorim was still the manager.

In the past 3 friendlies IIRC he's largely only been played on the LW and has looked inconsistent. His positioning, off the ball running and athleticism means he'll get involved a lot but his decision making is poor. Here's hoping he'll start the season on a banger then.

Can clearly see he isnt a pure Lw, i dont think he has enough in him to beat players from a standing start and although he is pacy, he isnt express where he will leave the fb chasing him . He is a solid squad playee who can play two position and that is what should be expected of him with hope of him improving in either position as he is young. Would like to see him on RW, have seen him cut in and put in a decent cross or two , also more opportunity to shoot, which should play into his strength.

I'll keep banging on that he's clearly got elite potential to be attacking LB who can do a serviceable job sometimes on the wing. He does not have elite potential on the wing unless he has a real technical transformation. He can defend, despite some people's unfair assertions otherwise, and having a good attacking LB would be a real weapon for us.

The fact we continue this gimmick baffles me. We should be trying to make a LB out of him, because he's not the quality we should be settling on for a winger.

It's not a gimmick - by far his best games for us have come as an attacker, not a FB. He's not a player I'd be starting against every team, but in certain games he can be incredibly effective.

To me he is clearly not a lb, and obviously an attacker with some very useful attributes as a squad player.

I reckon he'll always look untidy but will be a player with decent output. One way or another he can make things happen.

He's had a very odd trajectory. He played wing back under Amorim and the biggest criticism from fans seemed to be he wasn't really offering much in attack. Complaints about his defending seemed less frequent from what I could tell.

To go from being a wing back who's attacking game is underwhelming, to a winger, is a bit strange, but he has done surprisingly well in that position to be fair.

I tend to agree though you need a next level talent to be a winger at an elite club, compared to full back.

He's going to be unpolished in both positions. So when he plays as a winger and does nothing we'll have fans claiming he's a full back, and if he plays as a full back and his defending isn't perfect we'll have fans claiming he's a winger.

He's never played as a full back for us to be fair. Only wing back in Amorim's horrible system.
