Patrick Dorgu | 2026/27 Performances

A phenomenal specimen to bring in the last 20 minutes of any game, winning or losing...

I wouldn't want him converted to a left back, he has a dumb decision in him that would probably cost us a penalty or a dangerous free kick at least twice per game.

And with our set piece defending that's really not a good idea.
 
Didn't have the technical ability required to lift the ball to Mbeumo there, but good option off the bench. He should be an option at LB too

Anything is a better idea than Shaw at the moment. Dorgu should be tried there. He may not be the best defensively but he'd be great to watch bombing forward alongside Rashford or Cunha

If Amass is on loan and we don't buy an LB and we're losing, he's our best bet to overlap Rashford (excellent at playing in LBs) or Cunha (naturally comes inside and leaves space open for an overlap) and provide some threat from crossing or even a shot in Dorgu's case. Good way to get him a few hundred minutes at LB this year and see if he's up for it long-term.

But maybe the long-term play here is some mid-table side who needs a powerful runner and 6-8 goals a season to give us our money back with a little inflation bonus. Like Newcastle yesterday against Spurs would have been better off with Dorgu on the left of midfield (they set up in a 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1, but Willock was quite high out of possession) defending and flying forward on the break instead of Harvey Barnes mostly walking around and not exploiting Archie Gray, even if they'd want Barnes starting at home against a smaller team maybe. But that's only a quarter or third of their games really.

Otherwise yeah, his role should be backing up Cunha or Rashford at LW and maybe he starts away in some tough games, particularly when Amad isn't starting and we need to help the midfield a little more than out other wingers are up for.
 
If not Carrick the next manager will play him at left back. That was where he played in Italy, and that is where he will end here as well, a cover for our first choice LB.

He didnt play Lb in Italy. Played right wing most.
 
Should definitely be used as an impact player in bigger games and to rest one of the front 4 for cup games.
 
He's still young and learning and shouldnt be a first option at LW as he doesnt have the technical ability to execute in the final third, but as a brute force, he could be great. Even as a attacking option if all our attackers are playing well from a LB as a second LW for overloads, it's a great player to have.
 
I dunno what to think. There is 100% a player in there and IMO he did more than rashford in that cameo.

Thats more than he did last game so he is wildly inconsistent but he has a drive and desire and a bit of madness about him that i like

No overreaction for me, I think most said he isn’t good enough to be in starting 11 and useless against low block. This was a perfect scenario for him.

My thoughts exactly. He's raw and akward at times...but he is a force of nature and even when not playing well he seems to be able to impact the game.
 
He's energetic and good at running, and he is decent in finishing. Other than that, not much. But he can do wonders when played at the right setup at the right moment.
 
Need to coach him to make crosses or passes to his team mate which was in much better position. Decision making was terrible.

But overall a good game coming off the best. He could have scored 2 goals.

That would make complete sense, almost all wingers are better inverted. He ended up on the left last season because Amad/Mbeumo had the right side locked down and less competition on the left side. With Rashford coming back now, it's a bit less clear, Dorgu will end up 3rd choice on both sides you'd think but Mbeumo/Cunha/Rashford will all end up playing some games up front opening up more game time on the wings for others.
 
I think today was the perfect role for him this season. His physicality and directness against tired legs is a killer (he also looked quite smooth in moments).

No issue with Dorgu, just needs to be used correctly and not too much pressure.

To his credit I think he often gets starts due to his ability to cover Shaw. But 1 I hope we sign a new left back and 2 we have to put our best foot forward in an attacking sense.

Care to elaborate on when this happened when he played as wing back under Ruben?
Guy came on and destroyed Fatawu, for pace and strength, same guy who had previously destroyed Shaw, numerous times.
 
It's becoming so hard to judge him. Best player after he came on. Should have had a goal or an assist. I'm not sure if he's Gareth Bale or Darmian?

He's just a talented lad who's barely played 100 games. He will be a bit all over the place but I do think he's been generally good and promising.

The last game he played for Leece before joining us was against Inter Milan. A lot of us in this forum watched that match because of him.

He played left back.

Agreed. Hes very athletic and has the Amad-like ability of poking the ball away and dispossessing people.

I'm a big fan of his and want him to do well here.
 
I don't see how he is such a good option? The opposition basically doesn't have to worry about left wing when he is there. You just put a body to hinder him a bit and he basically has no end product.

Only really useful if we are leading and closing out a game.

And that is why he will never be a top winger. There is zero end product or quality to finish off a move. People say bring him on against tired legs, he is strong etc. All zero use if he does not find anyone

We're also screwed if Shaw doesn't get injured and plays every game. He's cost us several goals already this season, and we'd be kind to overlook the pre season horror shows.

Another player we should have gotten rid when his stock was high. Expect him to overstay and be sold for peanuts in a couple of years.

Doubt, that we could have some him for much profit. Also the manager seems to rate him, is a good squad player and gives us something different than our other wingers.

Our season doesn't rely on him. If shaw gets injured Mazraoui likely plays there with Yoro seeming to now be a backup option to Dalot. If Maz gets injured Dalot can play there with Yoro on the right. in a pinch you can play Dorgu or Heaven there. If in the unluckiest of all seasons you could play Baleba there. We don't need to be dramatic. Those options will likely be enough for us to get into the Champions League spots. We've had far worst options before.

Mazraoui isn't even good right enough at right back.

Hamstringing he whole team by having a right foot on the left offering nothing going forward and no overlap is the last thing we need.

He doesn't need to be the greatest left back in the world. He's fine as a backup for one season.
