No. He obviously wanted to wear a Matuidi shirt, and I think the reasons for him wanting to do so are well known and totally valid. Despite that, he also chose to clarify/explain the Juventus shirt.
Do people really think that he is more concerned with pissing off our fans than he is about Matuidi? You think ‘he wanted to do something controversial’, I think his motivations were very different. He has been vocal since the outbreak, and now it’s a friend.
In reality, and in the current situation, it’s regrettable that such a clarification was required, and even more unfortunate that even still, people are so sensitive or emotionally fragile that we think he should have just worn a Manchester United shirt.
When I watched the video, the first thing I noticed was the Juve shirt. Then I thought, ‘FFS, last thing we need, that’s going to cause a new storm’. Then when he turned round to run back, I saw Matuidi’s name on it and thought she, makes sense then, fair enough’. All of this was before I even read the caption, in which he chose to spell it out. I didn’t even need a disclaimer. It’s a Matuidi shirt, he has Corona, they are friends. Nothing to see. And that is also before I even considered the fact that Victor Lindelöf is making the same gesture towards his own compatriot. Requiring he (they) do it plain shirts is petty and childish.
Getting involved with the ‘he should have shot it this way’ or perhaps he should have got a black marker and scribbled over Juve’s logo or something. Is that all necessary? Are we not adults?
There will probably be plenty of things to get pissed off at Paul Pogba for further down the line, but I think making this one of them doesn’t reflect well on the pissed off party, in my opinion.
