This is going to be unpopular but I was having a look at stats and he runs a lot more than many of our players, and even more than some rival players in the same position. Call him what you like but lazy shouldn't be it.

Paul Pogba ran an average of 9.96km per match this season.

    Compare that to:
    Herrera 8.3km
    Henderson 8.02km
    Kante 10.94km
    Maddison 9.34km
    Ramsey 6.42km
    Jorginho 10.98km
    David Silva 9.19km
    KdB 6.97km
    Son 7.2km
    Eriksen 10.41km
    Martial 5.95km

    https://www.premierleague.com/stats/player-comparison

    Look under the matches tab.

    Also our top scorer...

    Also our top assist maker...

But, but, the media/pundit merry-go-round, mainly made up of rival ex-players says we must get rid him.

Funnily enough Matic did even more running at 11.6km.

is the Martial number accurate? If so he must be the laziest footballer in the world. I don't think any professional player runs below 8km per 90 minutes, no matter in which league.

He isn't lazy. I don't know how anyone could come to that conclusion. His body language isn't great and sometimes he isn't sprinting back but the amount of criticism he gets on here and in the media is ridiculous. Put him on Liverpool or City and he'd be a candidate for Footballer of the Year imo.

You wouldn't think it by watching him, maybe it's because he has a bit of an odd run?
He's a bit 'lazy' in the defensive side of his game, or more likely just not good at defending.

You do not reach the stature Pogba has in Football by being lazy.

Only world cup winner in our squad, by the way how did our attackers fair against Cardiff? Doesn't matter we'll just just blame a Midfielder also Liverpool should blame Henderson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum etc for not winning the league

I wouldn't call him lazy, but definitely unfocused and often lacking concentration.

Take a more careful look at your stats. I rather suspect you will find that they have divided the total distance covered by the number of games played. This makes players who play all 90 mins look like they have run a lot further than players who got substituted or came on as a sub.

UEFA Champions League website has been producing distance covered stats for several seasons. They list the total distance covered and the mins played so you can calculate average distance covered per 90 mins, if you so wish. Your figures are crazy. Pogba covers significantly less distance than most central midfielders. I know this because I have been following the stats for the past 2 seasons. For instance, Herrera runs about 1 km per 90 mins more than Pogba. Martial runs about 9 km per 90 mins, sometimes marginally less. The only players that average under 8 km per 90 mins are goal-keepers.

Those stats can't be per 90 Mins right?

Anyways, no doubt in my mind that Pogba isn't lazy, that's not the problem with him. There's 20 players to get rid off before getting rid of 1 of the better players we have.

He has long legs. Looks more lacklustre than the manlets who have to pump harder cause of their shorter strides.

You'd need adjusted stats still. What if there's a head injury and play is stopped for a long time? I think distance run/time ball is in play would be a better stat.

Yeah he only has to take a few strides and he's half way across the pitch. I remember when Jose brought him back I think he said it's because he wanted a ball carrier.

Altidore not holding back in his reply. I agree with him (Altidore). I've never seen running broken down like this for any other player.

That's a pretty damning stat, are there comparison to other players though? I'd be interested to see how often say David Silva or De Bruyne walk.
Also, what was he doing for the 4% "other" stat?

People realise the ball is usually not in play right? Do they want him sprinting while waiting for a corner or throw in or while the keeper is taking a goal kick? Maybe while someone is being subbed he should be doing sprints along the touchline?

Seriously? It’s cos he’s black?? It’s not because he’s a very high profile player that’s underperforming?

That would be an improvement. UEFA CL website assumes a match lasts 90 mins, so in the case of your head injury and lengthy delay, it makes no difference, as they never claimed the match lasted 103 mins.

One match might involve the ball being out of play more than usual but over 6 to 10 games, the averages will be reasonably fair to the players involved.

Does it include the jog to the pub after matches? Could be awfully quick. Add Lingard as well.

If you have followed all the games you would have noticed how Pogba runs, kind of body language. When he is keen he would chase the ball as soon as he lost it, something that Sanchez did a lot. But when he is not keen, which is for the past 2 months, you will notice that he will chase the ball 10m behind. Yes slow jogging but have absolutely no effect, unless someone block the ball and pass to him immediately.

We see that he's underperforming every damn week. The entire team/club is (save for the tea lady, hugs).

Don't need to invent new stats without sources that no one has ever seen before to show that. If you're going to make a point about Pogba use stats that are accepted/recognized in football and established.

    % Walking isn't.

Looking at the Eufa stats i think he ran even more. 729 minutes, 85000m.

    729/90 = 8.1
    85000 / 8.1 = 10,493m

    Which is 10.49km per 90.

Mind you on those stats others look like they run more, but I've not done any sums.

It's made to look like one. That's all I can tell from the tweet you posted. Is neither here nor there either, Sky are plenty capable of spinning a narrative and running with it. The fact remains it's a "Stat" that I've never seen for any other player before... and I watch football all the time. Can you reference any other player on this forum where this stat has ever been used before?

Aside from De Gea none of them are world class anythings.

Per match won't give better picture as it counts sub appearance as full matches. Per 90 mins is better stat.

So why are you bringing them up? He’s high profile, World Cup winner, world class, underperforming in united team that’s gone backwards. Yet none of that matters, the only reason he’s being singled out is because he’s black?
