I've said this before but compare his physique when he arrived from Juve to when he left again for Juve. Much heavier set. Not the same athlete. That's on him. As is the drug taking.
As were his performances before the injuries kicked in.
People said, incl myself, that his approach to his job wasn't right. It was juvenile on and off the pitch and it's played out that way since. He's blown the second part of his career.
I don't know who called him a virus, it's an unpleasant word.
But he definitely came across as the leader of the grown men acting like teenagers brigade.
Same with Lingard. Look how his career has gone.
Even though I disagree, I'm not arguing about his performances here. I think it's fine to think he could've done better even though I personally never had a problem with his performances.
You're right that he was nowhere near as fit as he was when he joined but, again, I think that was due to the constant injuries catching up on him than him being an unprofessional trainer. I never heard anyone say he was poor in training.
Keep in mind that, even with their problems, José kept playing him and he showed here that he would completely drop you from the squad if you weren't doing well in training. He completely isolated Schweinsteiger because he was unfit, and completely dropped Mkhitaryan at the beginning of the 16/17 season for a while, too.
Rooney also grew up in that era where training was harder than most games and only has positive things to say about him. If he was slacking, Rooney wouldn't be afraid to mention it.
I think it's completely different to Lingard. Lingard didn't have these constant injuries. He turned down clubs because he wanted the money here, and then left for more money elsewhere after sinking in value due to hardly playing after refusing to leave.
If Pogba could stay fit, he'd still be playing at a high level. In saying that, Monaco is still a decent level. They probably won't have it next season at this rate but they're in the Champions League at the moment.
