Paul Scholes the pundit

Is he maybe saying Carrick must be special as the team have been crap for 4 games but still managed to pick up points? Who knows, very weird stuff.

he's got a podcast, so this keeps him current. Funny thing is, he's not wrong, we have been crap for 4 games. He probably could have articulated his point a little better, but it is what is, I guess.

It's not even like Carrick is some random from a distant era, Scholes and Carrick played together for almost a decade. This is so fecking stupid from Scholes

He's just the same as any other United fan on here or in the pub, pissed off after a defeat. I'm not sure why some of you think that ex United players have some kind of responsibility to not be too critical because of their profile, or that they shouldn't criticise people because they played with them or are mates with them. I'm sure if Carrick was having a real nightmare and Scholes was defending him, you'd all take issue with that simply because they could be mates.

All that post proves is that Scholes doesn't seem the brightest, which we should all have clocked onto by now.

This is exactly how I read it before seeing the online response. Tallies with the previous praise he's given Carrick.

Either way, he's a moron.

All the past players in Neville's brigade are all idiots, I'm sorry. In fact all of Ferguson's players from that era are really. Stopped watching all of those overlap and sky sports related things.

Just listen to the Guardian football pod now (depending what people they have on).

For some context he's highlighted the midfield as a big problem just like many on here, and he wants signings like Tonali.

United have been out fought against 10 man Everton and Newcastle, he'll be watching thinking this is just so bad and it is. Same with Gary Neville, people want him to be not be so critical and give praise but they both know having been there themselves what they're seeing is way below and not worth much praise and time and again it falls apart at United. The underlying quality is not there to back them or suggest we're progressing.

Him and butt strike me as very insecure.

They come across like the past in professional wrestlers who can't accept they've lost their spot.

Sir Alex was a genius.
I did hear someone joke once that with each ex United player who takes up punditry, Fergusons achievements seem even better in hindsight.
Xavi actually once said that Scholes is the most complete bellend of the last 20 years.

I think being online has broken his brain. Spiritually a player like Scholes should have become a pub landlord after retirement, he shouldn't even own a mobile phone, becoming a podcaster can only be due to some terrible rift in the space-time continuum.

The great man indeed once said that social media is a waste of time. We can all see why looking at the drivel Scholes posts.

Slightly underrated during his playing career

Massively eulogised and overrated since it
I’m sorry but he is hands down one of the best midfielders to play for us and to ever play in the premier league.

Either you’re old and have a chip on your shoulder or are young and didn’t see him play. So many players during his career spoke so highly of him. SAF spoke so highly of him. People who would have no reason to ‘eulogise’ him like Pep and Henry speak so highly of him. Not to appeal to authority, which is what I’m doing, but they know far more than you or I.

He’s a fecking idiot as a pundit. But he’s rated exactly as he should be.

When did he get so chatty? Bit odd that such a reserved bloke is so willing to continue to openly criticise his ex colleagues and employer

I miss the days when he used to say nothing and I could just appreciate what a brilliant footballer he was.

The last part floored me.

Love that, about bloody time someone fired back at that lot!

Im sure Keane will try and create some sort of drama next time he's on TV, maybe he'll go one step further than Carrick's wife, attack Evra's mum or something similar.

I don't get why Nevs, Keane, Scholes and others saying stupid shit about the club is surprising and why people are being upset.

It's how they've been media trained. Any stupid shit they say it's to make a headline that gets clicked and so on. This is today's journalism, sadly.

Is it normal, hell now, but people should understand the image these people sell on TV and in podcast is completely fake and engineered.

They'll whip out the chicken lickin' video.

I kind of get that impression too. Butt's demeanour seems to constantly be that of someone in the pub who wants everyone to believe that he would have totally decked that guy who was being loud had he not just left.

"You see me look at that geezer that just left? I'd have had him had he not left"
Oh look he's just walked back in
"There's no point doing it now, I've made my point"

I have such mixed feelings about Scholes. Probably my favourite player ever (alongside Keane), who was a joy to watch. As well, I have great admiration for him as a fellow parent (he posted a lovely IG story today about his son trying to make coffee.) But put him in the pundits chair, particularly alongside Butt (he's not as bad when hanging with Neville, Keane and the rest on the Overlap), and he spews moronic stuff (and just come across as bitter in general.)

Honestly, something is wrong with scholes. he was already weird enough when he was kicking a football on tv quietly, but now that he can speak, its just been one stupid thing after the other. worst part is even at his most interesting, he's boring.

One of my favourite players ever, up there with Giggs, Rooney, Ronaldo, Keane... it pays not to get too invested in these lads beyond how well they can kick a football.

This....odd post from him, but he is right. Could of said it in more proper way.

I could be wrong but I don't think he's looked well recently. On that overlap episode a while ago, he was talking about how he looks after his disabled son and, as someone who has a disabled family member, I know how exhausting that can be.

It's not nice seeing him be so negative, but sometimes life gets on top of you and you just vent out in ways like this.

I hope he's okay because I think it's more than just not thinking United are a good team.

I actually agree I think mentally he's not in the right place to convey his thoughts. He's also getting money for this however so he's out there doing the podcast or turning up on overlap anyway.
