Paul Scholes the pundit

I dont think Scholes and Butt are controversial for the sake of being controversial, or for attention. I think they're just quite simple blokes who are honest in what they think, and because of their stature dont have motivation to put much effort into being particularly insightful or knowledgeable.

What is a working class personality?

They have come from a working class background and still maintain the same personality despite the wealth they've earned in football.

People change with money, I've seen it first hand within people I know and it's to a lesser extent to the wealth these guys have been exposed to.

I wouldn't call them thick, I'd just say they are set in their ways personality wise. There is nothing wrong with that. Ricky Hatton made a full on career out of being a rich man of the people. To me they are the same kind of lads.

I'd get along with them, I'd also like their company and I couldn't really care less what anyone thought about that either.

Most footballers are working class. Nearly all of them. Never understood that as a defence or explanation of something. In this country you’ll struggle to find many footballers comparatively that had rich parents, went to private school or didn’t grow up working class.

Same as when you see sometimes people playing on working class roots to deflect ‘elitist’ criticism. Next a polo player getting some stick will have people riding to their defence saying they’re being singled out from all the others because they’re uniquely white and posh

Great lads.

And the podcast is brilliant, hence why it's so popular. Working class lads, maybe your a bit of a snob that doesn't find working class humour funny. That's your own choice and opinion.

I love it and it makes me like them even more. Maybe Rugby Union is more your sport.
Working class humour? What does that even mean in this context?

I think it means being a bit thick.

Remember the bit where they were ridiculing Martinez for being short? That was a good bit.
That's what I was curious about... Working class doesn't mean "thick" or anything like it. Maybe he means something else?

Yeah, that isn't standing up for yourself Nicky, that's just being a petty arsehole to actual working class people
Assuming his portrayal of the incident is accurate, then it’s on the bakery to be more professional. They’ve just lost a customer through what sounds like very poor service.

Nicky but is so rich he can't afford to pay 70p to get his greggs heated, his kids crying due to being starving
But didn’t you hear how much he managed to agitate the annoying working class woman? Butt clearly won. Bet he’s still buzzing now.

What a hard man/no nonsense working class lad, telling a poor Greggs working lady how it is and standing up for himself in a world where men like him are increasingly marginalised, in Greggs especially.

I doubt it is accurate, probably just Butt exaggerating vastly a thing he was (rightly) annoyed by. He was always 2nd to Roy Keane and now sees value in the miserable pundit market so going for that look.

I’m always surprised to see how many games Butt played for us. My memory is that he had a much more sidelined role filling in for injuries and suspensions than what that stats reveal was the case.

Nah, he is right. Put the price on the display. It is not about money, it is about principle. The more people let it slide more we will have "hidden" costs. Yeah, I know he is rich, but he earned it fair and square.

It is about money though because money was going to be exchanged. Holding up said "principle" when you're a millionaire is just petty. Just pay it and walk out leaving the goods behind if it's about principle.

Greggs or whatever, made decision lets scam people who are iresponsible with their money. He stand there, and refused to be treated like a fool.

If the story is accurate, the business should not charge people excess fees without clearly displaying the information beforehand. The wealth of the customer is irrelevant.

It’s more the fact that he thinks this is an impressive or funny story to brag about on a podcast. He comes across like a prick to be honest.

Why do I keep having to explain myself, both men grew up in a working class environment. Whether they've made a lot of money or not their personalities haven't changed, they go the pub, have a laugh and a drink with the lads. They love a bit of a joke whether it's politically correct or not, they are basically jack the lads.

Like me, I'm similar. Before anyone says it as well I dont condon wife beating. Not that he's been convicted of it.

You don't know either of them, at all.

Whether I do or I don't, I'm entitled to my own opinion without being judged on here.

It's not like I'm backing criminals or proper wrong uns. So what if people don't like them, I do and that's really all that matters.

Butt definitely seems to be more bitter. I think Scholes doesn't care. He might not be particularly refined in how he expresses himself and might have less of a filter than most people in his position. No matter what the subject, Butt always seems to be intrinsically aggrieved for whatever reason. You can almost see the chip on both shoulders. The story he told when he turned up at Newcastle and he said to Keagan something like "You sh*t yourself" referring back to the 1995/96 title race - he seemed proud of that story but it just made him come across an arrogant prick who was happy to openly disrespect his new manager. As if he was a sniffling 17 year old embellishing a story about how many blokes he beat up once in order to appear 'hard' to the older guys in the pub.

Get the feeling if you were went for a pint with him, you'd just spend a couple of hours listening to everyone he either did beat up or could have beaten up if he wanted to. We all know someone like Butt and we all try to avoid them like the plague.

I don't know how people get so riled up by Scholes. If you know his opinions annoy you then just don't listen to him. It's not like he's Neville that is impossible to tune out because he's on commentary on our games or the leading voice at Sky Sports. Most of his more controversial takes come on his podcast with Butt and that is extremely easy to avoid.

I can image these two sat in corner of some miserable pub droning on and on about the old days.

No, but it's not that big of a deal is it? It's fecking 70p, and his kids are starving there

To be fair that's what a large % of United fans do, hark back to the good old days of SAF

You’re right to an extent, but we have players and our manager being asked about the stupid shite he comes out with in press conferences, and his comments are used by the media in an attempt to breed controversy with united fans.
