We have no players atm, he could only be useful as footballing supervisor for the entire line, from U16 on... one philosophy, one system, same prerequisites... even as a part-time consultancy gig.

Italy and Pep seemed a weird move anyway. The Netherlands would be far more suited to his ethos if he wanted to try international management.

If he really wants to manage at international level, can see him holding off until after the next Euros/Copa where he'll have had his rest and have more options with federations knowing of his availability.
He’s not going to say yes to anyone unless they have a ready made team to take on. Probably waiting for Barca to strengthen in certain areas, or for the Spain job. Although fair enough he probably needs some rest time too.

We know he likes his cheque books...perhaps IT FA weren't willing to give him the £20m he was after! For a notional coach that has to navigate what 10 games in a year, that sounds obscene to me.

He said his refusal was due to non football reasons so maybe he justs wants a solid break from management. I doubt he can turn down italy with that excuse and then turn around and officially accept another team right away even with a delayed start date.
He'd never come here as he wouldn't have a huge unfair advantage over all of the other clubs.

The guy has looked done in for at least the last 2 season, and has said as much himself, and also that it will be an extended break.
I'd imagine he just didn't communicate his no to Italy clearly enough, and so they took it as a definate maybe.
It's pretty widely known that theres a chance to save his marriage if he can stay away from football. He was probably very tempted but in the end chose family. I genuinely think City might be his last job.
