Pep Guardiola Threatens to quit Man City

That's...not really an accurate look at Utd's years of success under Fergie though.

Arsenal were only really the main challengers from a very specific period, from 97-04.

They weren't consistently in the mix from 92-97, Chelsea were then the main challengers from 04-11, and after that it became City until Fergie's departure.

You can argue Arsenal fell away because Wenger couldn't spend in the way Chelsea and City could (and think new stadium repayments played a large role too), but Arsenal were in reality only the most consistent challenger for a select portion of Utd's golden era, not the majority of it.
You won in 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2003. That's 5 of his wins in that short time. But Pool never really threatened to beat you during this time. The only time they finished 2nd in that time was 2nd to us. That they outspent you during those years doesn't really matter. That Chelsea grossly outspent us over the years doesn't matter at this particular time since they are not challenging us. It did matter in the mid 2000s.

If this was an argument for showing his level of success, than Pep could claim the same thing. Chelsea have outspent him by nearly 50% since coming in. (Of course some question marks there).

Big time lurker around here... Never signed because of my bad English and lack of time to debate.
But I can't watch how many people disrespect Sir Alex Ferguson.
Ferguson did it in 1980, 1990, 2010, 2013.
Yeah Pep is solid, but Klopp? Hommie had meltownd after 7 years at Pool.
Ferguson was the man for over 3 decades. 30y

Yup. It's nonsense. Let's see him do it without a bottomless pit of money.

He would run a mile when he hasn't got prime Messi, Xavi and Iniesta or a blank cheque to buy him out of trouble

Donnuruma was free and Haaland was very cheap, city were spending money for pep’s arrival before he even joined. And city spend very well so net or gross spend isn’t a real reflection of what’s an objective way to assess the resources.

Ferguson won the champions league and did the treble when the EPL was considered at best the 3rd league with Bayern being considered stronger then any English team at the time. Ferguson won that CL beating the serie A giants, like beating Arsenal , city and winning the final against Madrid while in a group phase with Barca and Bayern. (We weren’t even favourites to get out of the group).

Ferguson didn’t inherit a squad like pep that had recently won the league and was pushing further in CL.

Pep’s Success record is undeniably impressive but when you look at the resources he’s had, it’s fair to ask how much of that makes his accomplishments more expected then overly impressive.

In his first serious management role he inherited arguably the greatest player to of ever played and a squad that’s considered one of the best ever. When he joins a club and leaves they all still win before and after he has managed them.

He is a rolls Royce manager and is a banker in a club that’s setup right , is used to competing at the absolute top level, will give him a quality squad and can get him whoever he wants. It’s fair to point these facts out because he really has been given every possible opportunity to succeed that no other manager has ever been afforded.

Haaland release clause was cheap, however like others have said in this thread there was many hidden costs to that deal and probably Donnarumma too

Given they were pinged for under the table payments to Mancini, I’m extremely suspicious of the ‘cheap’ packages for certain players…..I’ve always suspect there’s a few hundred million more in those contracts than meets the public eye

Haaland package was over 200m. Don't do it to self people.
He got payed for life, but will problems to move one... Same as Pep who wanted AC Milan.
You sleep in bed which you made.

Wait, what?! Where did Pep say he wants to be AC Milan coach??? He always has said that after City he will take a break and then he will coach a national team.. when asked to coach in Italy his response was "may be in my 70's"..

The keeper demanded 450k from United so have to assume City are paying that,

Looks like Pep's dodgy doctor has prescribed him a few lines of coke before the press conference.

You hate to say it but, the way he's sniffing and shaking, what is going on there?

What's next, the fenty fold?

Disappointing league campaign last season and the trend seems to continue this year. He is definitely off as he looks like he doesn’t have the fight for it.

He’s a good man off the pitch though.

Smart money is definitely on him going this summer.

Do you think Pep is the sort of person to quit when he doesn't win the title, or quit and go out on top after winning a title? I feel like he's more likely to quit in the summer if he wins the league than if he doesn't win the league.

He quit Barca when he didn’t win the league…

He doesn’t look like he’s got anywhere near the energy needed to go again next season.

Wonder if it's leaving as a loser that's kept him going after last season. Have a feeling he wants to win the league and then feck off on a high.

He's a very average manager when he doesn't have by far the best team.

Yep. No idea how he got this overly confident.
Really, no idea? How a guy as high as a kite may have felt overconfident and invincible?
