Think of it like this, if the bulk of the teams - let's say 10th to 20th (the reality is it used to be more) are just getting hammered home and away for the most part how is your points total important? Because that's where the big scores comes from, what you ideally want to see in a strong or competitive league is as tight a gap between relegation and 1st. That is a bit fanciful in reality, but you want teams all taking points off each other.It's vastly different saying that higher points total shows a less competetive league and saying it shows a weak league. I could agree about the first (at least if it's one team running away with it like this year), but it does not equate a weak league.
