Pep Guardiola Threatens to quit Man City

It's vastly different saying that higher points total shows a less competetive league and saying it shows a weak league. I could agree about the first (at least if it's one team running away with it like this year), but it does not equate a weak league.
Think of it like this, if the bulk of the teams - let's say 10th to 20th (the reality is it used to be more) are just getting hammered home and away for the most part how is your points total important? Because that's where the big scores comes from, what you ideally want to see in a strong or competitive league is as tight a gap between relegation and 1st. That is a bit fanciful in reality, but you want teams all taking points off each other.

It's not a zero sum game though. Top teams getting better from one year to another doesn't imply that other teams got worse. It could just be that the league overall got better. You're essentially arguing that if instead of Liverpool improving 20 points between 17/18 and 18/19, City would have been 20 points worse off it somehow would have been a stronger league. That would only be true if the "quality" over time in a league always remain the same, which clearly isn't true.

Really needs to get his s*** together as Liverpool are going to run away with it next season. The Premier League needs to say sorry to him and let him spend what he needs to catch Liverpool.

I like how after years of signing De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Sane, Sterling, Mahrez, Rodri, Gundogan, etc, they seem to be going back to the Nolito, Dzeko, Negredo, Mangala ans Bony of old

Haha how dare they remove cheat mode, I am not playing anymore!!!

Marmoush seems like a good signing, but have there been some this summer already I've missed?

You don't rate the Dutch midfielder?

No, though they appear to be signing Reijnders for way too much money

It's been going a couple years. Kovacic, Mateus Nunes, Doku, that defender in January, etc

Verdict should be quite soon I think. He'll only need a small squad in the championship ? There's no doubt about that.

If last night is anything to go off I wouldnt be suprised if he didnt last the season, there are loads of City fans on Twitter wanting him to go already

Idiots on Twitter are hardly a barometer of anything. He'll leave when he wants to go, and it won't be this season.

You can always trust Pep to get the chequebook out and spaff another couple of hundred million on players 'he does not need' but sure he can do with!

People being too harsh on him. He hasn’t had the backing of the club in the transfer market. Hard to compete with the limitations he has

£150m on Isak
£130m on Baleba
£40m on Lammens
£60m on Wharton

That’s all they need compete for the league this season. They’re almost there.

According to numerous well-placed sources outside the club — speaking on the condition of anonymity to protect relationships — there is a growing anticipation of this being Guardiola’s last season at City. A firm decision will likely be made closer to the campaign finishing.

Nothing to do with the charges, promise guv'nor, cross me heart and ope to die.

Didn't he sign a bumper b̶r̶i̶b̶e̶ extension until 2027?

Can't see him going, they've gotten away with the charges and everyone agrees he's g̶r̶e̶a̶t̶ ̶w̶i̶t̶h̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶c̶h̶e̶q̶u̶e̶ ̶b̶o̶o̶k̶ the greatest manager of all time.

The follicle positive discrimination is going too damn far now.

strange time for someone at club to leak that. I'm sure they'll be looking to spend big in Jan, but that could make players think twice if they know Pep is leaving.

I didn't think Maresca was that highly regarded, weird one. I don't think Chelsea fans are that bought into him.

Think Chelsea fans will be quite happy with that outcome.

I think fans are bit split on Maresca tbh. Don't think he's loved in the way Tuchel and Conte were. He's not disliked the way Benitez and Sarri were either. Some fans definitely really like him. Other fans don't seem to rate him at all.

So yeah, I would say it would.be a mixed reaction. I read somewhere that he switched agents to Jorge Mendes a few months ago, so this coming out now I guess shouldn't be a surprise.

If Pep leaves City and the premier league, I think it's a free run for Arsenal. That's unless Liverpool get their act together. Then we just need Chelsea and United to get their act together and we will have the top 4 back.

Kinda like the unpredictable top 4 but unfortunately it's been at the cost of United.

Surely Kompany is the more obvious choice.

I was hoping we get Maresca because Chelsea will be Chelsea and sack him at some point in the near future.

He will win the EPL this year (Hello, Arsenal, you perennial bottlers) and if the club lets him - will go out on the high note like Sir Alex did. Makes sense

Been here long enough, has worked so hard that [allegedly] lost his wife, ffs. Not shocking he needs a break.

Think Chelsea fans will be quite happy with that outcome.
I think it would be catastrophically stupid, personally. If Chelsea's goal is to compete for the biggest titles in the next couple years, restarting with a new manager would be idiotic. Maresca is very obviously not the problem with our team and anyone we could feasibly get would likely be a downgrade at this point.
