Making a comeback.

I personally love them if the moment is right but the violence is obviously not good.

Security can't really do anything to stop them but I can see severe punishments being given. Empty stadiums or point deductions.

I love them and it shows that PL fans are still passionate becuase many has said that passion deteriorated over the years and that only executive fans attended PL stadiums.

The passion is still there and it gives us hope.

I really want to see those passionate images at OT every year.

City classless as ever. Smashing up their own goal posts. Ridiculous and spoils it for the players and staff.

As long as everything goes under safety, I think moment like this can be excused.

Seems like only a matter of time at the moment till we get a serious incident as a result.

Hasn't it been happening for decades?
Well yes, but it feels to me like the reason people are doing it now is not to actually celebrate on the pitch, but just to generally get on the pitch and act like an arsehole for 10-15 minutes.

City showed today the pitch invasions at the end of seasons can be safe.

Guards went after players right away, protected the bench, entrance to the tunnel.

It only happens once at the end of the season after a very emotional moment, let people enjoy it and it looks amazing.

Only boring people dont get it why english football need these moments, images, many supporters thought the passion was dissapearing, its not and thats encouraging.

They didn't.
Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen was assaulted as he made his way from the pitch following the 3-2 loss to Manchester City.

Thousands of Man City fans ran onto the pitch at the Etihad Stadium at full-time as Pep Guardiola's side were crowned Premier League champions.

Asked if players got off the pitch safely, Villa boss Steven Gerrard said: "No is the answer to that. My goalkeeper was attacked. So I think those questions should go to Pep and Manchester City."

Asked about Olsen's condition, Gerrard added: "We're going to check on him."

Pitch invasions at Everton, Nottingham Forest, Port Vale, Northampton and now City have all resulted in someone being assaulted, all within the last week. I'm not against the idea of them, but in practice, there always seems to be incidents.

I like them, they're cool.

Hope it doesn't become too prevalent though, it reduces the magnitude of it.

One idea is to build clear 50 feet barriers that come up 1min before the end of a game.
Only bring them down when players are off the pitch.

I know recency bias is a thing, but this is incredible. There’s been a number of incidents in a week but there has been hundreds of thousands of pitch invasions with very few incidents in history.

I think they’re largely pretty cringey in general but to make out that there’s usually incident is just wrong.

So only boring people dont get it, I dont agree. Its dangerous, imagine being a player on the pitch of the opposition team and wondering if youll make it off the pitch alive. Bit of a stretch but still plausible only a matter of time someone punches a player and kills them or gives them brain damage.

You're always going to get a few idiots and as long as it keeps happening, you're going to get player safety coming under threat like Villa's keeper today. All it takes is a player reacting badly and it escalates to something much worse.

What on earth was the point of the second one on Olsen? Not that the first one would have been justified, but he's been escorted off the pitch holding his head and then some guy decides to go for him again from behind? Crazy.

I can’t recall a more manufactured pitch invasion than the one today.

Most of these folk aren’t even excited; they just want to arse about, post on Tik Tok, and cause damage for twenty minutes.

Put up the fences or somebody is getting stabbed.

Yeah that could work however it may become really awkward for the fans.

Still think pitch invasions can be really nice, imagine us getting to do so after beating pool to the title for example.

At least 4 of our fans attacked the GK. Pitch invasions seem to be safe in Gaelic Football but football fans gonna football fans. If you let thousands of people on the pitch at least a few are going to be boozed up shitebags.

I think they’re unnecessary. Aside from the potential to escalate to serious incidents/violence, just let the players have their moment.

There's no chance of that happening though. Always idiots about.

Personally think it'd be better if we had nets up behind the goal but traded off by having safe standing.

What were the Greater Manchester Police forces doing in this? They knew it could happen, but they brought about no one specialized for crowd control when they had to support the stewards. The riot squad had to be brought in with shields, helmets and sticks just like they did in Barcelona back when Luis Figo made his return there as a Real Madrid player.

I think they should be limited to smaller grounds.
We had one on promotion at Wycombe a few years ago. But in a 7,000 or so crowd it's a lot less risk than say City's 10,000 fans coming on.

They should bring the Wimbledon stewards we encountered as Wycombe fans this season.

They looked more like an army commando outfit, and were just man handling people out. No one would mess with them about.

The slight
Jokes aside I guess it's fair enough, I really like the ecstatic romantic aspect of it but I suppose the safety concerns perhaps make it better to ban them altogether.
