Players you had forgotten existed

Add Bellion in there as the new Henry and that's a forward line to rival MSN.
That 2003 summer window has to be the worst one in Fergie era. Bellion, Djemba Djemba, Howard, Kleberson and Ronaldo. All of them were huge flops besides Ronaldo of course. What in the world was Fergie thinking when he signed Djemba Djemba and Bellion?

Charles Itandje
The Liverpool keeper who laughed during the one minute silence for Hillsborough’s 20th anniversary and was subsequently censured.

I also remember that he wore tight fitting trousers instead of shorts. Gotta admit, I’ve never been a fan of keepers wearing trousers instead of shorts

Apparently Oriol Romelu is still on the squad for Barca.
I vaguely remember him as a Voldemort lookalike at Chelsea but completely forgot he existed never mind was currently registered at Barca before yesterday when he appeared on a bbc article about wanting to leave.

I saw a video of Prosinecki crop up on YouTube the other day. Had honestly forgotten all about him, which is odd because despite being a chain smoker with a dodgy haircut, he was a brilliant player.

Nabil Bentaleb

Just saw him playing for Lille and thought "this guy must be very old by now", turns out he's 30.

Just read he suffered a cardiac arrest in 2024!

Julian Joachim is still playing knocking around in the lower leagues at 51
When I was 7, Dad's company got VIP tickets to a Coventry game for supplying medical equipment for the club. Dad took me, and despite neither of us having any affinity for Coventry we got a behind the scenes tour ahead of a match against Villa.

We met Steve Ogrizovic who was sat in the stands having a sly cigarette, John Motson in a sheepskin coat preparing his notes, Steve Staunton...and got an autograph in my little notebook from each one. The last player we met was Julian Joachim, who was nice enough but tried to sign his name on the card binding of the notebook, upside down, rather than the paper. Also has a mad signature.

We watched the match, either a draw or Villa won, and as part of the post game formalities Dad met the manager, Gordon Strachan. I have a vivid memory of bashfully asking him for an autograph...him taking the book off me and looking at the rune carvings Julian Joachim had carved into the cover...and then going absolutely mental (I was 7, maybe he was joking)...around the fact that 'nae wonder we fecking lost when JJ can't write his fecking name'

Can't post images but if you search Julian Joachim autograph, it does look like someone testing out a biro

I often do Sporcle quizzes such as, name every United Premier league appearance" etc and I find my memory of 90s, 2000s players is really good, even the really obscure ones like O'Kane and Curtis but then I get to the last few years and I end up forgetting players like Darmian, Schneiderlin or even Lingard and Martial. I guess this kind of sums up my relationship to aging, football and United

I had the exact same problem!

Very normal. Your brain picks up consumes information and visuals differently at a certain age window.
Also helps that you often tend to hyperfixate at a younger age about interests.

I still vividly remember all the squads and faces and names from my Merlin sticker books in the early noughties, or the squads on FIFA 2005 or who scored a certain goal around 2004. But I struggle to remember half of the Bournemouth team I saw City play against last week

To be fair, as a keeper, especially on older, shitter pitches, every game wearing shorts I always had bleeding knees. I was told either wear longer short/trackies or shave my knees so my leg hair doesn't get caught up in the scabs.

I watched the Spurs-Man. United game completely unaware of Kudus existence. Didn't even realise he was injured for Spurs.

That Red Star Belgrade team that won the European Cup in the early 90s, was so underrated.

Greece won the 2004 Euro's...and i can't even remember the face of a single playe nevermind a single name.

Must do better, Karagounis the midfield general, Charisteas the one tournament wonder striker, and the GK who looked about 50 with all his grey hair, Nikopolidos I think.
