Most of those were players who were highly rate whe they were relatively young but couldn't turn into world stars. Matias Fernandez is still the strangest case because he had it all: amazing technique, very good set-piece taker, great speed and excelled in passing, but things just didn't click for him.

Matteo Darmian, just seen he scored tonight. One of the most forgettable ex-United players.

Fitz Hall. Or as he was known by his QPR teammates, "one size"

Taribo West .
I remember in every videogame during the 90's and early 00's Taribo was regarded as one of the best CB's in the world but reality was very different.

I wonder how his career would have gone if he had a “normal” haircut. If it was a move to market himself it was absolute genius because everyone knew about Taribo West even though he was pretty rubbish.

Didn’t the old FIFA games give him green hair which at the time I thought was amazing to see that

Michu.

He was brilliant that one season for Swansea. I would have taken him at United. He had a Swagger about him.

What happened to him?

Drenthe. Just seen he signed for the fourth-league team in Spain
I remember that many people saw him as a huge potential. Not so old either, only 33

Edson Braafheid. He was supposed to be a decent talent at left back once upon a time.

Diego Capel from Sevilla, just turned 32 so he's still relatively young somehow.

Martin Kelly in the sense that I saw his name and forgot who he was/didn't recognise it.

Was playing Football Manager yesterday and was going through the list of players available for free ahead of the 2023/24 season. Saw a bloke called Martin Kelly with 1 England cap and had no idea who it was. Had to Google him and it turns out I remember him from Liverpool, he's been completely off my radar at Palace. Not played much the last few seasons and not at all this season.

Where's the one and only Bendtner these days?
He had a stint at Rosenborg where I think he ended up top scorer and won the league or something. Then he came back to his boyhood club FC Copenhagen where he was seen as cover for the injured Dame N'doye and Jonas Wind. He did absolutely nothing.
The latest I heard was that he was back in the fourth best league in Denmark with some old mates or something. Strange career he's had.

I actually forgot about Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. He's about to go back to Schalke for a 2nd spell.
I'm amazed that at Milan he couldn't manage to get picked ahead of Borriello.

But on his prime (Ajax) he was fantastic.

Lilian Laslandes and Steve Marlet.
Old post, but just wanted to give props for Lilian Laslandes. For a non-french speaking person knowing the s’es are silent (I’m pretty sure at least), there is no name more wonderful to pronounce. Lilialaalaaanh.

André-Pierre Gignac. Recently seen playing at the club world cup.

For some reason I assumed him and Giroud were the same player. Was big for Marseille in the early 2010s. He's actually been at his current club in Mexico since 2015!

Djalminha had literally forgotten his existence until he came up in the diallo thread. What a player
deportivo? he was quality. Diego Tristan. Pandiani. Mauro Silva, jacques songoo, rivaldo, txiki begiristain. Won the league mid 90s to late 90s i think. Hell of a side

What happened to Kevin Strootman?

I remember when he was about 22/23 he got linked here a lot, that being around the time we were crying out for CM's. I thought it was nailed on at one point.

He's 31 now, should be in his prime. But he's on loan..

There was a time when it was rumoured he’d join Bayern. Never heard of him ever since.

If I remember correctly he had a serious knee injury a few years ago, then just over a month after returning he had a ACL injury one on the same knee which basically ended any chance of becoming a top player.
