Gaming PlayStation 5

Thanks to PS Plus, I'm playing and really enjoying Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. This is an excellent metroidvania.
The gameplay and especially plattforming is really great.
However compared to other gems of the genre like Super Metroid, Hollow Knight or Ori it really lacked in the graphics and audio department.
I liked the environmental graphics but the characters have a weird style and the Prince looks more like a 90s/00s rapper than a prince of that era imo.
The music is also pretty forgettable imo.

If it had the style, music and atmosphere of the games I mentioned, it would be a Top 3 or 5 metroidvania ever easily because the gameplay is really, really good.
I hope other metroidvanias adopt that "screenshots on the map" feature, because it makes backtracking with new abilities much more enjoyable.

You're right about the characters. They look like something out of a mobile game!

Anyone else hit an absolute wall with gaming?

I weirdly just don't have the stamina anymore with these massive games and I'm instead opting for much shorter indie games. Was playing Divinity Original Sin 2 and just got bored with it.

Then tried Dark Souls 3 that I bought ages ago but can't be doing with laborious grinding at the moment.

Played and enjoyed ReAnimal, but it's a 4 hour game for £35 which was a bit extortionate.

Really liked A Short Hike. Any games like that would be good right now.

Don't know if it's being a dad of 2 that's just sapping my mental energy at the moment!

I’m similar, is it just getting older and you can’t be arsed with it now?

I’m playing Arc Raiders and the latest FIFA, finding Arc Raiders boring now as I’m just trying to collect things to upgrade other things but can’t find the things I need so mind myself just wondering around like an idiot, and FIFA is always annoying.

I think it could be. Just getting bored very quickly.

I haven't played a football game in years. What are they like these days?

Meh alright, i find defending really tricky in these games, a far cry from how good PES games feel.

Last good Fifa was about 2017, and its mostly been going downhill since.

With FM (primarily PC game) turning shit as well its not a good time for football games.

You probably just need to gravitate towards indie/short stuff.

Clover Pit
Cairn
Hades maybe?
Dispatch
The Drifter
Rainworld
Stardew Valley

I absolutely do. I've beat Stardew Valley, but will give those a look, thanks!

New PSSR is out! Can't wait to try it, later.

Why are some people so offended by this and DLSS5? Isn't this the perfect use of machine learning? It's not taking anybody's job, it's having no creative input, it's just potentially delivering an upgrade on your graphics using the hardware you already have.

It's not PSSR or older DLSS. It's the new DLSS 5 that people are mad about.

Re: bouncing off games, I always find this time of year a bit meh for gaming. Something about the cold and dark makes me think I’ll enjoy it more than I actually do, but when it comes to it, I just can’t be arsed.

I weirdly play more in summer. Longer, lighter evenings mean when I’m inside I feel more up for it, rather than just lying on the sofa like a zombie.

Anyone else the same?

PSSR and DLSS are decent tools, but they allow corners to be cut and even worse performing engines, and especially in the case of DLSS has allowed Nvidia to cut huge corners with new cards more and more. Also there's a latency cost that feels shite so some, not so much others.

However, DLSS5 with the AI is absolute trash. It's just another stepping stone to full AI slop, it also looks fecking terrible and performs badly to add to the real world cost of this god awful AI future. feck Nvidia and feck the likes of those lying sellouts Digital Foundry for pushing it.

Yeah I have to say those DLSS 5 visuals so far look a bit uncanny valley to me. Particularly character faces. The environments don't look as jarring. I think I'd have less of an adverse reaction if it were just toned down by like 30%. Looks like gaming with an instagram filter to my eye at the moment.

I've been finding this for awhile. I have access to almost any game I'd want to play, and a massive backlog, but nothing really grabs me in the way it used to (Expedition 33 for a few weeks in November being the only exception over the last calendar year).

Last couple months I've been re-playing the Witcher 3, but playing for an hour or two at a time tops, and maybe twice a week. Haven't really played at all on weekends. The limited doses has me appreciating little details, and just gaming in general, a lot more than when I could come home from work and bang out 4-5 hours multiple times a week.

Has it had a load of updates to make it better ala Cyberpunk?
There’s a big update coming when it launches on PS5, but I doubt it is going to reach the level of Cyberpunk. Cyberpunks main issue at launch was performance and making the mistake of releasing it on the old consoles.

I did finish Starfield, it was a decent game. If you love Bethesda games then you’d like it. Don’t expect anything new from their older games besides the space setting.

I checked out a game on PS Plus called Metal Eden. I'm glad I did. I thought it was an excellent doom 2016 clone. If you loved that game then this is a must play. Try and play it Ps Plus, though or buy it cheap because it very short. I finished it in two sittings.

I also finished up The Lost crown, which really was excellent. I don't mind admitting that I dropped it down to easy for a boss that I got stuck on.

This year looks like it really sucks for PS5 games and just feels as if everyone is waiting for GTA6. I enjoyed RE but the next big release I’m interested in is the follow up to Returnal in April. After that nothing much on the horizon at all :(

I think wolverine is later this year

They also had marathon out recently

It’s probably one of their more productive years compared to some previous

Does anyone play on a projector, and can recommend sth in the range 500-800EUR range? I am about to set up a cinema room and want good PS5 gaming experience. I will be doing some casual gaming, GTA VI main focus, no fast shooters.

00(4)7 could go either way, if they do it right it'll be grand.

Been playing wolfenstein new order and just started the 2nd one too. Top games, I really enjoy just shooting up Nazis.

Such a fun game. Wish first person shooters would make a proper comeback. Need more of them (that aren’t multiplayer).

That’s what people say every year and it turns out to be another banger. While I’m busy playing games from the last few years, this year we have Wolverine, Crimson Desert (released), Saros, Phantom Blade Zero, Wolverine, GTA6, 007, Control resonant, Tomb Raider remake, Lego Batman, Dawnwalker, possibly a Witcher 3 DLC, mixtape, Onimush and others that may yet be announced and indies that people usually forget about. Also Xbox games like Fable and Fortza unless they hit PS5 next year.

Obviously it’s all very subjective and down to personal taste.

It is very subjective, but I can’t remember a year where the immediate release schedule looked this bad for my preferences of games. Maybe the second half of the year will be a banger.

Looking forward to Saros though. Directive is another game I’m looking at but it’s a Dark Pictures game (a guilty pleasure) .

Maybe take a look on Steam? So much stuff on there if you have a laptop or steamdeck. My wishlist is like 70+ games.

This is both utterly insane and unsurprising. It feels like the future of video game technology is completely fecked.

Christ those are some insane increases too, I'll be caressing my launch PS5 to sleep every night at this rate.
