Gaming PlayStation 5

Does anyone play on a projector, and can recommend sth in the range 500-800EUR range? I am about to set up a cinema room and want good PS5 gaming experience. I will be doing some casual gaming, GTA VI main focus, no fast shooters.
I'm using Epson EH-TW750 and I'm really happy with it. You do want a dark room for it (blackout curtains work fine enough). I think it's mostly discontinued but you can find similar newer models from Epson in the similar price range. From what I know about the projectors (not that much, admittedly, but I've asked around people who knew better), Epson's are among the best in this category.

Important note if you'll go with something similar — WiFi connection is generally a terrible option for gaming, not sure that even the best projectors will give you a decent experience with it. Certainly not the ones in this price range. So plan the set up with a cable to PS5 in mind.

Just to put things into context: the 2x32 GB memory modules I bought in July last year for €189 are now €779. Exact same product, exact same store. That's how fecked up the hardware sector is at the moment. Where do we even go from here?

In the back of my mind I’ve always wanted to upgrade to a pro and I keep ignoring my heart’s wish. This announcement makes it a lot easier to ignore

On another note does anyone think this means no PS6 for another few years yet? No way are people going to pay anymore for a console at this point. If a pro is that much and a ps6 was released next year I dread to think of the cost?

Jeff Gerstmann has said every first party developer that doesn’t have a game coming out on PS5 has already moved to PS6 and it’s expected to be out in 2027. The KeplerL2 guy, who leaks hardware said last week that Sony can’t afford to delay it too long as it’s going to cost them a lot of money and it’s still expected for 2027.

As for the price increase, Sony know they can do that because the console will probably have one of its best years at the end of this year other than launch with GTA 6 launching.

I was talking to someone in Mauritius lately and he said that the PS5 was around £1000 on launch which sounded fecking mental. UK wants to try and get to that point it seems.

At this rate it will get there! If you think about adding an additional controller and a couple of games with the Pro at the new price point it's basically there already.

This is the price you pay for needing those fancy graphics. If you'd just enjoyed gaming for the simple thrill you'd have bypassed this nonsense.

But no, you had to welcome Ray Tracing and DLSS to your dinner party, unaware they were secretly plotting against you.

Where you heading to? PC market isn’t exactly sane right now, probably worse.
Nowhere, should have made that more obvious. Just stop gaming altogether after PS5 has run its course.

that surprises me as this gen feels like it has a lot more to give but I know it’s a business decision.

I’m not knowledgeable at all about this stuff but with the way things are I just can’t see enough people being able to afford a ps6 at this rate. If a PS5 pro is near 700 UK pounds and the PS6 is out next year then the price will be crazy. The first thousand pound console in the UK?

The pro is going up to £790. £860 if you want a disc drive, mental.

Realistically, what could a PS6 do that the PS5 couldn’t? The PS5 had 4k in its favour as an obvious upgrade.

AI!
But seriously maybe they'll actually deliver 4k this time? Marketing consoles on what they can actually do doesn't seem to be a thing though.

Yeah I don't really want another normal console with marginally better graphics. I can't see me spending huge sums for anything that's not revolutionary, unless it comes with a holodeck then why bother.

I’m guessing the PS6 will offer at the very least 60FPS for most titles together with high res, without there being a big trade off in picking one or the other? the base PS5 does struggle a bit with these things , but maybe that’s more a developer thing (I heard Crimson Desert struggles with this on the base PS5).

It honestly doesn’t feel like this gen has got started yet. Maybe I’m getting old, or maybe the PS4 years were just that good but I can’t see myself buying a PS6
I think there have been a lot of amazing games since 2020, but not by Sony themselves. Their transition to live service shite has killed their output vs the quality of first party games on the ps4.

Games are definitely taking longer and longer to make. Games are changing less and less between generations.

PS5 a great console with great games, but definitely slow for big titles. I hope PS6 gets pushed back a year

Well, looks like I had the right idea by buying a Pro at launch. These price increases are nuts. £1000 PS6 incoming?!

I signed up for a month of PS Plus and thought I would try Gravity Rush Remastered. I had heard of this game but that's all I knew. Anyway, I thought it was excellent. I can see why this is highly thought of. One note combat, doesn't take away from a great central mechanic. I know it has a sequel, which I might get to one day.

Path tracing will be the thing they will push, which will be enabled with pssr 3.

Might be the lowest selling PS console ever due to the price it will be.

That’s what people say every year and it turns out to be another banger. While I’m busy playing games from the last few years, this year we have Wolverine, Crimson Desert (released), Saros, Phantom Blade Zero, Wolverine, GTA6, 007, Control resonant, Tomb Raider remake, Lego Batman, Dawnwalker, possibly a Witcher 3 DLC, mixtape, Onimush and others that may yet be announced and indies that people usually forget about. Also Xbox games like Fable and Fortza unless they hit PS5 next year.

Obviously it’s all very subjective and down to personal taste.
Phantom Blade Zero looks incredible. Hope it delivers.

The “dark room” is the issue for me, also because I’ll be watching movies outside in the garden. That’s why I’m looking for a projector that won’t be garbage in those “ambient light” conditions (as my current Epson ehtw5400). It was bought on a budget many years ago, now I’m looking for an upgrade.

I don’t have internet cable in the room I will be playing, but I should be good with WiFi for GTA, spider man and crimson desert right?

Oh, no, sorry, I was talking about HDMI/WiFi as connectivity options between the PS5 (or any other source) and the projector. As a lot of those projectors have the option of transmitting the image wirelessly but the bandwidth is generally not good enough for enjoyable gaming experience.

I think you need at least 3000+ ANSI lumens for that (your ehtw5400 has 2500, I believe, the ehtw750 that I have has 3400). The true issue with projectors and dark rooms only come up in certain games — for example KCD2 where you have to crawl around in the dark for prolonged periods of time, so if you have a light source illuminating the screen it can influence the experience significantly.

I've been on a Resident Evil binge recently. I started the Resident Evil 2 Remake quite some time ago but didn't end up making my way to the finish line. I restarted it a few weeks ago and really got sucked in this time around. What a game. It's beautiful to look at and it plays like a dream. I struggled with the introduction of Mr X the first time around and found him to be too much of a pain in the arse that pulled me out of the experience. A friend later said to me that I should think of him the same way as The Terminator, which made a lot of sense. Second time around, I found the encounters to be more thrilling. I went with Leon on my first run and realised that I wasn't too far from the end when I stopped the first time around. As soon as I finished the game with Leon, I then instantly went back and did Claire's second run. Quite enjoyed the differences in story and gameplay this time around. Loved the whole orphanage second and would consider that a definite highlight for me. Overall, thought the game was absolute class and really enjoyed my time with it.

Next up was Resident Evil 7, which I also started before and didn't get too far into it before I stopped. This time, I was going to play until the end. Holy shit, this game is fecking scary. The atmosphere in this is terrific. The shift to first person makes a difference and gives a great sense of claustrophobia to the game. Loved exploring the Baker's house and how the areas connected together. There were too many occasions where I found myself holding my breath going through doors and into rooms where I didn't know what was on the other side. There is a bit of dark comedy thrown in here and there, particularly with the boss fights. Found the ending also very enjoyable, too. Decent/cool story, too. I've seen some criticism online about the lack of enemy variation, which I understand. That didn't really bother me an awful lot, but I can understand how that would make it feel a bit more repetitive. In terms of theme and atmosphere, I'd say that this is great. It's very different to the other games that came before it and is a definite shift compared to previous Resi games. One of those that could have existed as part of its own series with its own mythology, but the final third and ending does a decent job of bringing it in the same universe as the other games. Ish.

I've just started Village and I'll find some time to try the Remake of 3. Heard mixed things about that.

The remake of RE1 must still be the greatest remake of all time. I played the game on hard and real survivor mode at the weekend and it’s a great experience (in this mode the item boxes aren’t linked and ammo is a real struggle). Creating little safe spaces on the map by burning enemies is a must.

RE2 remake is great (apart from the tedious sewer section) , as is the original remake of RE1, which I recently replayed few weeks back. Forgot how puzzle heavy the first is, compared to the other original PS2 games that is.

It would be interesting to see if CAPCOM tweak the gameplay Abit in the new upcoming remake of the original.

The OG remake on the Gamecube is still the masterclass in how it should be done. Absolutely no need for them to redo it in the newer action style.

I just got my 50th Platinum playing Resident Evil Requiem. Brilliant game. Prop either my 3rd or 4th favourite of the series. RE:5, 4 and then 2.
