Gaming PlayStation 5

Starfield out on PS5 today with the Free Lanes update. The new DLC is optional extra if you get the base edition of the game. Apparently the reviews are good so far.

It's a 150gb download with the DLC story packs.

Edit: Premium edition physical copy is sold out everywhere, so for once I've gone down the digital only route. Premium edition. This should keep me busy for awhile.

Warhammer Rouge Trader will have to wait now. Got that in sale last night.

I very nearly bought a Series S just so I could play Starfield. Glad I didn't given the reviews, but still want to play it

But not buying it for £50 or whatever it costs.

It'll be on PS Plus at some point, or £15. Whatever comes first...

That would be pretty daft wouldn't it? Realise a £1000 new PS6 console and then get the same fan base to splash out on a £600 - £700 handheld.

Besides no dev kits for PS6 have gone out to game developers (according to EDGE magazine) so I wouldn't put any credence in a PS6 being released next year. Also you don't release a new console you can't play GTA6 on immediately. That's madness. Also with GTA6 coming out at end of year, that's a console seller in itself and that will shift PS5's by the bucket load. You'd want to maximise those sales for at least 18 months. Then get a upscaled version for the new PS6 to get even more sales.
Wow... That is interesting!

It's mental for this day and age there aren't real tutorials. So you have to rely on videos like the below which has been really helpful.

It's a good game. Think it's defined my kids childhoods
Yeah it’s just so creative. Really nailed that old platformer feel and alway manages to feel fresh.

Just doing the God of War level which is class. You can tell a lot of love went into this.

For anyone interested in a free game, Graveyard Keeper is temporarily free on the store. For completionists it does have DLC but they've got an 80% discount on that too.

For any non-PS readers it is free on other platforms too.

I'll pick just about any game up that's free

I fired up cyberpunk to check out the new Pro patch with PSSR. The ray tracing is very impressive, indeed. I was playing the 40fps mode and I was less impressed with the frame rate.

It seems like the ray tracing mode with 60fps is the way to go.

Cyberpunk on the Pro looks as good if not better than it does on my 9070XT. PSSR2 is the real deal.

Played Harold Halibut the other day and was very impressed. It's on PS Plus, if you've got that

It's not particularly deep in terms of gameplay mechanics, but the story, characters and art (stop motion) are absolutely top notch.

Wow look forward to getting back to cyberpunk when I get my hands on a pro 5 years later when it comes to India :(

Anyone on the fence about Starfield on PS5. I will just say, if you like Bethesda games like fallout series. You'll like this. I'm really enjoying it.

Only get a few hours in the evenings to play after kids have gone to sleep. But it's addictive and time just flies by when your playing it.

I finished Resident Evil Village last night. I enjoyed it on the whole, but have a few sections that I was a bit more mixed about.

I played this off the back of Resident Evil 7, which I very much enjoyed for its tension and atmosphere. Loved the shift to first person and enjoyed the creepiness of exploring the Baker's household and the surrounding areas. The intro to Village had me hooked and I enjoyed how it played out with the introduction to the village. Quite enjoyed the desolate eastern-European bleak-midwinter vibe of the village and especially enjoyed Castle Dimitrescu, which was a highlight of the game. The House Beneviento section was fantastic. As is standard in Resi games, I find that the earlier-to-midway locations of the games are usually the highpoints, and then it tends to tail-off towards the end. I felt that here, possibly more so than other games. I found Heisenberg's factory a bit tedious and thought the location itself seemed out of place compared to what came before. The switch to Chris during the finale section of the game was entertaining.

There is a definite shift in this game and it feels more like 4 in the sense that there is so much action. It's not a terrible thing and the weapons are really fun to use. But, it becomes a borderline run-and-gun game and is a little bit jarring considering what came before it in 7. I preferred 7 on the whole and found that much more tense to go through, and there are definitely moments of that in Village, particularly when exploring the village, Castle Dimitrescu and House Beneviento. Maybe 7 is a bit more consistent in its theming.

Storywise, I was fine with the direction it went in. Bit disappointed with Ethan's ending and thought it felt a bit cheap, especially with the reveal that came moments beforehand regarding his status. It felt like an ok ending. I hesitate to use the word 'rushed' because I don't think it was a rushed ending, but there are elements where perhaps it felt a little cheap and sloppy. It didn't feel right for Ethan to sort of 'give in' the way he did at the end.

I think it's a theme of the recent RE games to overstay their welcome. RE7 went abit downhill after you left the house. RE Village went abit downhill for me after the castle. RE Requiem went abit downhill for me after you left the sanatorium.

Yeah just replaying it now for the platinum. Fun combat. Looks really good on the pro as well.
Yeah the combat is lots of fun (though I do find the inputs to be a bit inconsistent when trying to chain attacks).

Just got to Eidos 9, did everything that was possible before moving on from Xion.

Seen 2 is already in development so hopefully not too much longer a wait.

Think I’ll have most trophies after I complete then it should just be a bit of a speedrun on new game plus.

If you want to get the platinum in two runs make sure you get everything you need to in eidos 9 because
you need to avoid eidos 9 in the second run to get the alternative ending from lily
.

Got the plat a couple of days ago now, Ng+ is really fast when you can avoid everything but story bosses. Took me about 5 hours or something with picking up a few extra body and beta cores.

Its capcom so i'll but it at some point. Don't love the aesthethics or look but they make good games so i'm sure i'll enjoy it regardless.

Is it safe to buy used controllers in regards to stick shift etc, or should I just buy a new one?

My old reliable has finally given up because it was thrown with force at a wall. Had it since launch and had no problems with it until now. :(

What was the game?

I think stick drift is pretty easy to repair in most cases. They're not particularly hard wearing, if you want one thats going to last years and years i'd buy a new one. If its a stopgap for a couple of years when you buy a ps6 then you'll get away with second hand

Its easy to fix as long as you have old controllers to take accentuators from and a screwdriver and maybe a YouTube video

Mouse PI is a big let down on the Pro. It has zero pro enhancements, and the performance mode looks horrible. Looked on quality mode.

Im still going strong with Starfield on PS5. Totally hooked on it. Fantastic game, not without it's flaws.

PSN asking me to verify my age to an account that is about 20 year old anyway

The UK government can suck a dick with this stupid bullshit.

Just one more trophy to get platinum on Avatar. What a fecking grind of a game this is. I know I should be aware of Ubisoft but it is bad, even for them. Don't think I can bring myself to even try the DLC.

Apple verified people by the age of their accounts. Not sure why MS and Sony can’t do that?

I finished up Pragmata. Some mixed feelings.

It's one heck of a great looking game on the pro. Could pass for 4k, for sure. Didn't feel any frame drops with VRR, either.

In essence, the central mechanic is excellent. I really enjoyed hacking mixed with combat. Off the top of my head, combat wise, I don't recall playing anything like it, before.

Finished Ghost of Yotei yesterday. Like its predecessor, I thought it was a pretty good game with a stunning world and very enjoyable combat, but once again the story holds it back from being more than that. It's not necessarily bad, I liked some of the characters and parts of the story were well done, but overall the writing is still stuck at typical video game level, which is a low bar. A lot of it is poorly written, predictable and cliché.

It feels like a missed opportunity. If they want to make a truly great game, Sucker Punch absolutely needs to find better writers.

Didn’t mind the story too much but for me it suffers with repetition after a certain amount of time (which I think is true for pretty much all open world games).

As I get older I have less time to game and so these huge worlds with so much to do become less appealing.

Replaying HZD and Jesus it's way more clunky than I remember, constantly getting stuck on stuff during fights or Aloy deciding to jump different distances for shits and giggles. The machines swarming is relentless in some areas.

The climbing is also janky as feck.
