Of course you can protest, but by literal definition, they stopped her from speaking.
They silenced a person with vile views. Exactly the way a man with equally vile views would have been treated. Silencing women is about systematically reducing the voice of all women. It happens all the time in minor and major ways. This just wasn't one of them. People with vile views deserve this level of non-violent challenge (and no throwing tomato juice isn't meaningful violence).

I mean, looking at the footage, it looked pretty aggressive.

But as a man I'm not comfortable dictating what women should deem as acceptable levels of violence or their comfort.

I think even vile speech should be allowed even when I massively disagree with them, because in my opinion the spotlight actually greatly diminishes hateful speech. Like a UV lamp, it kills the germs.

I think as soon as you let cranks and weirdos speak freely, they always show themselves to be fringe, unhinged and not worth listening too.

Cranks and weirdos is very generous terminology.

Also the stratospheric rise and reach of innumerable 'cranks and weirdos' on social media and indeed government probably suggests that spotlight isn't working just as curatively as you think.

I was at the protest, saw it all happen. The vast majority were peaceful and there was a semi party atmosphere. I would have preferred that the tomato juice wasnt poured on her. I would have preferred that the protestors simply drowned her out with singing and drumming etc. It was pretty noisy. It got ugly when she was being escorted out by the Police and a portion of the crowd squeezed in. She looked genuinely frightened.
She had been pretty obnoxious on social media leading up to arriving in the country, taunting the PM over being allowed in. I had done a fair bit of checking up on her before she arrived and she is a pretty shitty human, the worst type of grifter, she boasted about paying off her mortgage with her tours, she has a shitty habit of connecting with some pretty shitty people and like Trump just skirts along the edges of being blatant with her true views.
One of the reasons there was anger directed towards her was that she connects with the very people our rainbow communities fear and are disgusted by. Only 2 days before she got here she was being all mates meeting Pauline Hanson who is a particularly vile sack of shit.
I would have preferred she hadnt been covered in tomato juice but am very glad she got run out of the country.

The idea that queer and trans people are obliged to be civil and give a fair hearing to the people who just want to demonise and eliminate them. Nobody has an obligation to participate in their own elimination.

I disagree that allowing hate speech means it is diminished under the spotlight, history show us that isnt always true.

People like her need to be fought. If the protests caused her fear than they worked. A society in which such vile and hateful people are afraid to voice their hateful opinions is a good one.

I do agree but be mindful, sometimes people will use the same ideas to silence you.

That's interesting, thank you for sharing your experience.

Does PP want to eliminate queer and trans people? Thought her thing was she wanted sex based spaces for cis women?

Also I'm not saying giving literal hate speech a fair hearing, moreso in the cold light of day, actual hate speech will always wilt.

Anyone who is mates with Nazis is a cnut. I don't care what they think. We don't need to repeat what happened in the past. De-platform the lot of them.

I think people underestimate the disastrous effects of providing a platform for these malignant cnuts. These people do not deserve to be heard, they deserve to be booed of stage and condemned at every step. Feck em.

She has called for trans men to be sterilised:

The disturbing bit is having GCs/TERFs openly supporting Parker. On the most charitable reading they may not be fully aware of her and what she stands for (I am sceptical over this). They may see a woman being opposed and think she is the victim or being victimised.

But if you are reading this and have questions or concerns over trans rights, then you should understand that Posie Parker and everything she stands for must be utterly rejected and condemned.

We will have to agree to disagree, I dont think in the cold light of day actual hate speech will always wilt. Its something I would like to believe as i believe free speech has to be protected but the problem for me is in defining where the line is if we were to stop it. I dont know the answer to that. Im stuck on the fence or in no mans land on this. Our govt and local council gave her permission to enter the country and to book a public park to speak in, the public however shouted her down. That might be your idea of hate speech wilting.

PP has said some pretty awful things about trans people, one quote I have seen was "wanting to destroy them" A large problem with her is her associations with some hard right people. She softens her rhetoric when interviewed but cosies up to some pretty vile individuals

Yeah, she is a very vile person and seems attracted to the controversy and notoriety.

I don’t believe they deserve such a charitable reading. They are adults. They deserve to be taken seriously and to be held accountable for their horrific views.

Yes. Allow them to reveal themselves as vile. Then shout them down with peaceful protest. She could easily have been physically attacked but she wasn't.

But unfettered free speech, especially hate speech, shouldn't be a right, and isn't in many places.

Ironically the solution to the perceived problem of cis and trans women using the same bathroom is unisex bathrooms.

They really won't as I don't engage in hate speech. And if I do I hope I'm silenced as fast as possible.
No I get that but you don't always get to define what hate speech is when someone levies the charge at you. It's pretty broad term used online but in reality it's a narrow definition.
