Seems like every time we've ever played Villarreal it's finished 0-0 so I wouldn't expect a classic if we did get them in a final
Wasn't the Champions League group game in 05 over there where Rooney got sent off for clapping the ref

I'm dreading Arsenal tbh, especially in cup competitions. But first we have to go through against Roma and Arsenal have to beat Villareal and Emery. Playing spanish teams is frustrating as well, I have not enjoyed these 2 games against Granada at all even though we beat them comfortably in the end.

Let's get through the semis first, we haven't really climbed that mountain yet under Ole.

If I were you I'd prefer Arsenal. Smashing them in the Europa final 2 years ago when we already had top 4 and they needed to win for CL qualification was just so so funny.

I never want to play any of the other English clubs in Europe - not unless the alternatives were much harder.

There's little between Villareal and Arsenal, so I'd much prefer to play Villareal as I don't really care who we beat in a final - winning it is enough - but losing to a La Liga club isn't the double whammy that losing to a fellow English club would be.

I'd also feel a little more confident against Villareal. Nothing between the sides, really, I just think an all-English final would make it 50-50, whereas I'd make us slightly bigger favourites against Villareal.

Whichever combination of the four get to the final, I think it's going to be a very tight game that's tough to call. I'd make us slight favourites out of the four, but not by much. Bigger favourites in the two legged S/F, but the final will be very difficult to call.

1 Win, 2 Draws, 3 Losses as manager against Arsenal (I think this is correct) and outside of the FA Cup game when Ole took first over the performances in those other games have been awful.

What an ugly team Arsenal are! Danni Ceballos cheating and feigning injury when 3:0 up, Xhaka an irritating slow donkey, Smith - Rowe a fugly creature... Ewwww imagine losing to these cnuts.

I'd rather play United than Roma as we've won our last few matches and you guys haven't picked up any silverware in nearly five seasons.

Obviously we have to beat Villarreal first but quietly confident!

I'd prefer Villarreal and have a feeling they'll beat Arsenal.

The humiliation of losing to Arsenal in the final would be unbearable. I'd be so fearful going into it.

Judging by our performances against them this season, they'd have good reason to fancy their chances.

I expect Villarreal to beat them, though.

Talk as if Ole had broke through his semi final curse.

Arsenal will be in the final, we will crash. and burn in the semis.

I don't know a lot about Roma or Villarreal's style of play but Arsenal do have some real energy in their pressing at times which has caused us issues in the past two seasons. I kinda hope it happens; a final with Villareal isn't that exciting on paper.

Weird to think Arteta could have two trophies in two years at Arsenal considering most people think he's crap.

I almost pity them these days - I don’t know if I’d rather they got to the final and inevitably got hammered or to save them the embarrassment and them just go out in the semis. Would be the biggest game in their history if they could get there.
Didn't they just play in this final a couple of years ago? Didn't they play in the CL final in 06?

Don't get the fuss. Arsenal are the last team we should fear. We're much better than them.

How on earth is a European Final involving Man United only 'exciting on paper' depending on the opponents?

So long as we're in it, I'm just as excited regardless of the opponents - if anything, slightly more so if it's Villareal rather than, say, Barcelona, as our chances of winning are increased which is by far the most important thing and the most exciting prospect.

I hope Unai pokes them in the eye and kicks them in the nuts.

But I think we can handle either in the final.

Hopefully we won't play them in the finals (if we knock out Roma). They have better record against us and good chance they will beat us again.

My biggest worry about this is that the Europa League competition has turned to De Gea's gametime.

Going against a PL team and putting De Gea as GK in line is usually targeted by the opposition.

We've failed to beat Arsenal after 5 attempts(if we meet in the final that's our 6th attempt) the dynamics are similar to us and Chelsea last season in that after losing to us so many times they were eventually due a win against us as Law of Averages dictates. I simply don't see how we fail to beat them after SIX attempts Ole with such a fancy record vs big name managers should by now have a game plan against Arteta. Unlike most people here I fancy us against them if we meet in the EL final
Villareal on the other hand are an unknown entity which can be dangerous as better the Devil you know plus Emery is a EL specialist. They're unbeaten in the competition that's similar vibes to last season's Sevilla. Not to mention our record vs Spanish teams isn't the best we'd have a much harder time against Villareal IMO

I saw someone write in the post match Granada thread the possibility of Arsenal v United in the EL final and Chelsea v City in the CL final. Manchester Derby for the super cup next season anyone?

It's got to be worth a bet hasn't it? I wonder what odds you'd get.

Rather Arsenal than Villarreal. I've a funny feeling Villarreal is going to win the Europa this season.

United-Arsenal would be by far the biggest spectacle and event. Regardless of our recent record against them, it's the fun final that would make victory seem more special. Too many scaredy-cats in this thread.

This does sound brilliant, but with our recent record against them I wouldn’t be sure we would make it over the line and handing Arsenal a Champions league spot would be equally embarrassing.

Agree. It's Arsenal not Bayern FFS. Since when do we fear that bunch of mediocrity? We have better players in nearly every area.
