Possibility of United v Arse final - STILL POSSIBLE ATM

This does sound brilliant, but with our recent record against them I wouldn’t be sure we would make it over the line and handing Arsenal a Champions league spot would be equally embarrassing.
Surely we're due a win against them though one way or another? It'll take a special type of bottling to fail to beat them after SIX attempts
Villareal are an unknown entity which to me is unpredictable territory

Really dislike Pau Torres... or?
Not at all, I just like to see what sort of player he is and I suspect he is nowhere near as good as what people make him out to be just like that clown Arsenal signed at the start of the season.

It would certainly raise the stakes and make it so much sweeter to win it. I also don't like that Arteta, despite all his shiteness, has managed to make United his bitch. It just feels wrong to expect a loss when faced with Arsenal. I want us to rectify it asap.

Then again, a loss would be catastrophic. Firstly because of Arsenal supporters everywhere. Secondly because of the Ole out crowd in here.

Yeah I'd rather have Villarreal, if (and it's by no means a foregone conclusion) we get past Roma.

Beating Arsenal would be far sweeter, of course, but the other option is too disastrous to bear thinking about. And we have a shite record against them, and the games themselves are always dreadful, dull affairs.

It wouldn't feel like a European Final if it's all English.

Hey, i've just had a weird thought... is it "a European Final" or "AN European Final"?

A European Final
That makes more sense. I just didn't know if "European" was one of those words we butcher and its really meant to be pronounced "Ee - you're a pee, Ann"

I know the Spanish pronounce the currency "Euro" like "Ah, you're oh"

Anyway i'm babbling. Arsenal no thanks baby doll

I really hope Emery gets revenge and Villarreal knock Arsenal out. Potentially getting them in the final wouldn’t fill me with confidence, we seem to really struggle against them for some reason despite them being shite. Arteta seems to have Ole’s number a bit but if we turn up and play at our best we should have too much for them. Can’t look past Roma though that will be a tricky fixture.

I'm personally more worried about Emery. He's a EL specialist. Villareal are unbeaten in the competition and our record vs Spanish teams is patchy gives me Sevilla vibes from last season. We've been poor vs Arsenal for a while but it's similar to us and Chelsea last season we beat them for so long that eventually the Chavs were due a win against us, Law of Averages. Same logic applies here after 5 failed attempts Ole with his fancy record vs top managers should have a strategy to deal with Arteta

The thought of losing a trophy and simultaneously letting this shower of shite in to the CL. Would definitely prefer if they were kicked out in the semis.

Our record against them has been shit for a while now. I’m not even thinking about it yet given our semi troubles over the last few years, just get past Roma before even thinking about these lot.
This. I hate talk of who we meet in the final when we havent even got there ourslves yet. I bet there was a thread just like this last season.

I almost pity them these days - I don’t know if I’d rather they got to the final and inevitably got hammered or to save them the embarrassment and them just go out in the semis. Would be the biggest game in their history if they could get there.
Made me laugh, they used to be pretty good you know.

Nothing could be sweeter than depriving the Gooners of a trophy and their only route back into the Champions League.

But then again I couldn't think of anything more worse than gifting them a trophy and the route back into the Champions League.

I'd rather get smashed 7-1 by Roma in the semis.

I would prefer not to play them on the basis of the two games against them this season. I think Villarreal beat them anyway.

My friends wouldn't let me rest.
Ah okay fair enough. A good enough reason, that!

What is it you don't understand about it?
I mean, it's Arsenal. We once had the PL's most epic rivalry with them in the late 90s/early 00s, but it's been a nothing rivalry for a long time now. First we dominated them for fun under SAF and then it's just been insipid with both teams meandering as pale shadows of their former selves. So I didn't think Arsenal a 6th -10th place team these days genuinely affect people. I see them as no different to Spurs now.

They'll always be Arsenal though. The club of Vieira, Lauren, Keown, the club of pure arrogance and heightened sense of martyrdom despite employing some of the world's most shamelessly shithousing thugs, like the aforementioned gentlemen. Even now their supporters tend to be unbearable when they manage to win three games in a row, which is thankfully rare these days.

They'll never be the equivalent of Spurs, not for me. Maybe it's because I was a teenager when the rivalry was at its most bitter and vicious. Humiliating them in an EL final would be great but losing to them and gifting them a route into the CL would be terrible.

Meh, the rivalry has not been even close to past-times for such a long time. Wouldn't even be that arsed if we would end up lose to them in the Europa League final.

We have to get past roma, which I feel confident about but after that it's going to come down to law of averages. For a 'poor' European season after crashing out of a difficult group in the CL group stages, it's pretty much unheard of for us to beat 2 Spanish teams in the knockout rounds of a continental competition which we have done so far. To do it against 3 of them will be a feat that should IMO make us a lot more confident in dealing with the shithouse tactics that annoy us against such teams going forward. OTOH I really don't think Ole will lose another game to Arteta and especially not one where there is a final on the line even if we have bottled a few semis now.

I know. I guess I just don't really feel games against them. The rivalry with them back in the day was the PL's finest hour for me. Haven't seen anything as iconic since. Maybe that's why games against them feel so pointless because those were the heights our meetings reached.

If it happens if will be nervy as feck but we have to draw strength from being the better side in a one off. Hopefully we’d smash their sorry little arses

Yeah I know what you mean, but they'll always be Arsenal. Can't stand that club and their insipid fans. Always hate losing to them. The rivalry will always be there. I think we're their second most hated club after Spurs of course. We haven't really locked horns with Liverpool for 30 years or so. If anything the recent rivalry has been with City more than anybody else. The Manchester derbies are always usually better than the North West derbies which are becoming a little overhyped these days.

I think Arsenal have the kinder side of the draw, regarding both English clubs semi finals.
AS Roma certainly have more players capable of getting a result against us. Who do Villereal have ?

I thought that scenario was scrapped and there is a possibility that there could be 6 English participants in the CL next season if the above was to happen?
I've always found this confusing, so I finally got around to looking it up. And how the PL describes this on the website, there is a maximum of 5 English clubs in the CL. If 2 qualify through winning the CL and UEL respectively, and neither of them finish in the top 5, then the 4th placed team in the PL drops down to the UEL.

It's a bit premature to discuss it but the thought of losing to these jokers is always a bit tragic, doing it in a final is just beyond annoying. If it happens and we meet them in the final, we have to win, I couldn't bare losing to them again.

Why not? Isn't that what football is about, big games vs rival teams. Nothing better than that from an emotional point of view.

If we beat them we'll all be flying for a few days, if we lose....naaa we won't.

I think he'd probably do OK against our strikers (he's quick and reads the game well). I don't think he'd fancy it against a big, physical #9, though.
