The manner of the defeat is the problem for me.

No creativity really. Ronaldo continues to be a passenger he contributes nothing, can't create something for himself, he's dead weight.

The first goal was sloppy, the free kick will rarely go in but it did, United were 2 behind.

The fact United can't score more than one goal is the real issue here. Nothing in the middle of the park, United need a De Jong that can carry a ball. Get Tielemans on a free, get someone Erikson this isn't his kind of game united need a ball carrier.

Then the wings, United can't rely on Garnacho and Elanga, Rashford rarely crosses, it's all sluggish nobody gets to the by line and crosses, United do miss Antony and Sancho right now.

United need a striker and a ball carrier, of course a GK would be nice too, Shaws crosses are always flat, many areas of improvement.

United got comfortably beaten by Villa even if you take away the two goals as said above, United were never winning this game, shocker.

That was the Alien Resurrection of football performances. It was dreadful and everybody involved should feel bad.

Irrelevant result. The upward trend is good but we were always going to have bumps and lose to poor teams. Especially with the schedule and injuries.

Onto the next one.

Fecking shite. No intensity, no determination, no belief, no fight. Lost the game before kick-off.

Bottlers FC is back.

Game raising opponent, but shows as if anyone had any doubts, that we don't have a strong enough squad to have a few major players out.

Giving that 3rd goal away was criminal. Killed the game dead there before we could build a head of steam up

Pretty disgraceful performance. The lack of fight and hunger in the second half was shocking.

Please can we not see Ronaldo start again for us, its quite simply a problem.

Perhaps understandably the team seemed tired, with two tough away games in 3 days. Martinez was noticeably affected, with mistakes for all their goals and his worst match since the initial games of the season.

Beyond that though a huge part of the blame for the defeat has to go to ten Hag. Maybe he still has distant memories of VDB being useful at Ajax, but he's beyond redemption at Utd and a waste of a shirt. The win should have been more important than his desire to give VDB yet another undeserved try. The obvious choice to start the game would have been Fred or McT alongside Casemiro, with Eriksen pushed up. No way would Villa have had it so easy with that. He must learn from this.

Shifting an in form Rashford out of position to accommodate a still raw Garnacho was also a mistake; if he wanted to give Garnacho more minutes he should have been on the right instead.

Ronaldo also was a waste again, but with Martial still not fully fut and the squad lacking in depth there wasn't much else to pick.

Ten Hag was also too slow in rectifying what obviously wasn't working - the subs needed to happen at half time when Utd were still in the match.

Overall a difficult game for a team struggling with so many fixtures on top of a thin squad.

Our depth is shocking. Subs should have been used from.the 20th minute. When all our rivals either will or have dropped points we also fall over ourselves. Awful.

Dreadful from everyone involved, from players to manager. Ronaldo needs to feck off. Why on earth is he being named captain? What sort of message does that send to his peers? As for van beek, Jesus Christ that lad is a waste of space. I can see why he has hardly had a game here

We missed Bruno today, he adds that extra spark that we were missing and with him on the pitch we wouldn’t of had donny pointing at nothing all the game

This one is on the manager. You can’t win against good teams and if you play with 10 vs 11. Now that Ronaldo is back, we are back to having problems all over. Get rid please

We were always gonna lose this with that starting eleven and the new manager bounce.

4 shots and three goals, feck off!

That was crap. I think Emery had the right plan. Run the tired United ragged at full pace. Hats off to him. We were just not able to match their intensity.

Missing Varane, Bruno and antony. Squad should be able to get a better result than this, but I don’t have concerns about our ability to dominate games when the above players actually play.

Made a poor start but got back into it at HT.
But that second half performance was just dire. Created nothing. We've had too many of those

VDB is done at United I reckon. I don't see him ever getting a chance after that performance.

We all said this after his performance before this and he still started today.

He offers absolutely nothing. Doesn't even look like a footballer.

Definitely on ETH. He is a weird one with his selection and subs some times.

Some players are so soft and we basically played with 9 men. Also, some of them looks so tired. Playing same team every 3 days has caught up. I can't understand how Donny even makes united bench let alone start.

Ronaldo playing football at this level is a vile spectacle to force on anyone.

VDB is a joke. Elanga is a joke. Rashford is a joke starting on the right. We played most of this game 9vs13.

We can't defend without Varane there mopping up after everyone elses mistakes.

Like so many seasons before you think United are getting better than it’s a big regression. United looked at sea today, no cohesion with the passing, hardly creating any chances.
We made a crap team in Villa look good. Depressing.

It's depressing that we're back to just having literally nothing down the right hand side again as soon as Antony is injured.

While we were shit, but it was still a fairly even game and we shouldn't really have lost that 3-1, either. Villa will never see finishing as good as that for another game until the end of time. Probably scored all three from a total of 0.5 xG or something.
