This thread just shows how results driven analysis is. Of coruse just like Villareal it was exciting and a fairytale ending....but lets be honest, I have supported this club for over forty years and without the ball, this side is like ROn ATkinsons side....when RObson was injured.

Absolutely dreadful for huge spells of the game, the ease every single side has moved the ball without a serious challenge from end of the pitch to the other is absolutely shocking, its not even our poor midfield that I have criticised so often, the shape of the side, the lack of pressing and organisation is absolutely appawling. Ues, we can enjoy a wonderful ending to an exciting game but people commenting we can win the champions league must be eating wobbly eggs and smoking drugs I wasnt even aware existed, as it stands this side playing like this without the ball has absolutely no chance whatsoever of winning any trophy this season let alone the champions league

Can I nominate Robbie Savage for man of the match? As good as that come back was on the field, his commentary for BT made it al the more brilliant.
He’s actually been really good. Completely and utterly biased but has made it enjoyable.

Scholes summed up my feelings, ultimately we are just papering over the cracks due to the amount of good individuals we have, we'll never win anything that matters while Ole is in charge.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
To be fair, United attacked well in both halves. The defending was diabolical in the first though, primarily with the set piece goal (the first goal was fairly well worked from Atalanta I thought). Had they defended the set piece better, this could have been 3 or 4-1.
Finally someone who watched the same game as me. We should have scored shed tons in the first half. We zipped it around brilliantly - and fecked up numerous through balls plus the rashford and Fred chances. The issue was how shite we were off the ball as it has been all year.

The agony and the ecstasy; we looked a different team second half. The first half was abysmal; the second superb. I don't know what to think any more; it's impossible to predict anything with this team. I still think Ole is coming to the end of his tenure; we are conceding too many stupid goals and we have a very tough run of games ahead. We will need to improve against Liverpool.

Don't let the 3 goals make you forget what happened in the first half. Atlanta lost more half their team by half time. Papering over cracks and nothing else, much like our previous two wins.
What happened in the first half was we should have had four goals - can't blame the manager for crap finishing, especially when he would have buried them all!

Can't keep giving up set piece goals and expect to win especially against quality opponents....which is why i don't understand Maguire not marking someone like the opposing CB instead of Shaw??

The comeback win only shows the potency of the team going forward but the lack of mentality when it comes to defending. Guess we are going back to the old days where Fergie said you score 3 and we'll score 4.

I remember that Ferguson wrote that the United he inherited was used to live on the excitement brought on by cup runs.

We're not much different now. Matches like tonight will give some energy. But that's all we've got.

This is what it means to be a United fan nowadays. No trophies, countless weekends ruined, wasted seasons but punctuated by moments like tonight. I've made my peace with it. As a 38 year old, I've seen enough title wins to last me a lifetime.

I just hope by the time my 3 year old grows up, we've pulled our finger out and he gets to experience something close to what I experienced in the Fergie era.

Cavani and Pogba subs changed the game.

Its clear to me that pogba and bruno cannot play together.
I've been saying that for a while too. They are too similar, I'm not against Pogba leaving tbh, qe need balance and hard workers plus I think Pogba has lost interest in this project that is step by step. He deserves to go somewhere and win things, he is an incredible player.

Scholes is a miserable git. How many games, over the years, did he play in when we were crap for 45 minutes and then somehow rescued victory from the jaws of defeat.

Its the United way, always has been. You’d never plan it this way but what would get us better revved up for the games ahead - winning tonight the way we did or a run of the mill, goal in each half, 2-0 win ?

What did he say?
He basically said despite how good the 2nd half was he couldn’t enjoy it because of how bad the 1st half was. He said the the 1st half was a real worry, he also said can you imagine us playing like that against Pool, City etc

Last time Ronaldo scored 3 goals in 3 consecutive games in CL for us was in 2007. Guess what happened ? We are winning the CL guys !

Fun game and amazing atmosphere. Always thought that we could come back in this one. Like Leeds, Atalanta are made for us. We need to get the job done in Italy and not have a repeat of Leipzig who were another team made for us.

Good performance overall, 2 goals conceded from set pieces, but we looked dangerous all game. So many big chances missed and we still got the win.

I'm not too optimistic of it happening, but it's those types of games that can turn your season around. With Liverpool at the weekend another big result would be magical.

Sorry guys, but we won. Must hurt this forum a lot, but i for one am over the moon! Fantastic second half.
It is possible to be delighted with a great comeback win where Ronaldo gets the winner with a great header and also feel like unfortunately Ole is not the right man to take us forward and feel annoyed at how we have played this season.

As great as it is to turn it around we’ve seen this script time after time in the last 18 months. The team starts to run when they go behind. Very good comeback side. This shouldn’t move the needle an inch on Ole in/out.

Fantastic comeback, and big win. Don't think we're going anywhere with this setup, but it feels good writing about it after a win,

That pass from Bruno for Rashford's was pornographic, and what a header from Ronnie. Class.

Papering over the cracks but we live for moments like these. Fantastic comeback. Bruno with 10 misplaced passes and 10 key passes

For all the idiots that slag off Ronaldo that’s why you sign him, for moments like that.

Ole continues to be the luckiest manager that I’ve ever seen in my life.
First half was terrible but clearly what was said at half time worked, and the subs were made at the right time and works well.

Half time team talks must be something otherworldly. The amount of times this has happened is simply uncanny.

Could 2 up top work for us with Bruno behind or was it just because we were behind? Would be a good solution as most of our players who play out wide can play up top (Rashford, Greenwood, Martial etc) Only real loser would be Sancho...

I mean that was obviously great, but we need to follow this up now.

We won dramatically late on against Villarreal, but then drew with Everton and lost to Leicester.

The performances need to start picking up.
Exactly. Most important thing on Sunday is keeping a clean sheet. I'd take a 0:0 right now, as crazy as it sounds.
Go back to basics. Forget the 'United way'. Just stop leaking the goals.

We were second best in the first half. Atlanta without 5 key players looked a very good team.
shocking defending for the first goal, Shaw out of position and I think it was Lindelof, just failed to see the player coming in free on their right. 2nd goal concede from a corner. Shouldn’t happen.

Second half wow, a different team, passion flair pace, we steam rollered them..

Degea kept us i it yet again with a wonder double save. Bruno ran his heart out, yes he screws up plenty of passes but he makes a difference for me when it counts.

Very, very, very lucky. Can't fault the "heart", but with the amount of talents on the field and squad, they need to do much, much, much better. Ole has made some progress, improved the team and the whole club in general definitely, but for this team to progress further, a better manager is needed.
No, we were not lucky. We should have scored more. Fred’s chance, Rashford’s crossbar and CR’s shot at Atalanta’s GK to name a few. We conceded two stupid goals and they had one more chance to score in the second half. We had also more possession in the game.

What’s with all the lucky talk? We had enough chances to win 3 games.
Lucky because we faced a side missing most of their players and we only just beat them by a goal. Hardly worth celebrating when you know we have pool at the weekend.

I kind of echo Scholes thoughts tbh. Very much papering over cracks. Yeah it was exciting and we enjoyed it in the moment but can’t help but look back and think what on earth where we doing being 2-0 down to that team.
But the intensity in the second half is something to cling onto. If we could just do that for 20-30 mins during any game it’d improve our results massively. We basically never ever play at that pace ever. And the fact we can do it makes it that much more frustrating that we never do.
Agree and disagree on what you say here. Yes totally agree its paperin gover huge cracks that result.....but 20/30mins every game we actually do often....its usually the first 10-15mins and another similar spell when we go a goal down.

We have so many attacking options to use from the bench that a high press with intensity should be deployed far far more than it is an dcertainly far more organised rather than just a couple of players doing so. Also we shoulnt have to go a goal down to play a high tempo game, yes our midfield is piss poor in terms of transitioning but that front four should generate more than it does intensity wise

We should line up the way we ended the game. Greenwood/Sancho on the right, Cavani ST and cr7 as lwf
