Jamie Redknapp says Amad is manhandled but not a penalty, but Evanilson is through on goal so it has to be a penalty.

The through on goal thing is irrelevant to whether or not it’s a foul. And this fella is getting paid a lot to be talking about this here.
Yep, 'through on goal' is only relevant when determining the colour of the card (if one is given). And yes, it's a travesty that pundits are getting paid and still don't understand this.

Why doesn't the main ref just award every iffy penalty? The game moves pretty fast, just call it a penalty, then VAR can review it at their leisure and decide if it was the right call or not. All the ref has to say to the VAR room is, I think it might be a penalty but I am not sure. This way, it's all on the VAR staff.

3rd best performance under Carrick, and only the fact City and Arsenal are the big 2 keeps them above it.

Good control, leading to a dominant win if it wasn't for ref intervention preventing them going to 2-0.

Absolutely robbed by the referee. Zero consistency and VAR are a joke for not recommending the referee to review the Amad penalty decision.

I would have settled for a point, but this feels a total injustice due to the officiating. Can't wait to hear the excuse Webb gives us in a few weeks.

Glad Carrick calling it out.

Honest enough to accept the Harry one and red… but also rightly pointed out it wouldn’t have happened if the Amad pen was given because the game plays out an entirely different way.

7 match ban incoming for him probably

I hate VAR with a passion and that game has not reduced my ire. This one’s on Carrick though. Casemiro should have been hooked much earlier and our inability to keep a clean sheet is becoming a worrisome trait. Cas was giving the ball away too many times and it was bound to cost us. I also don’t get the Kobbie hype. He’s not doing enough for me. Take the point and move on but it was a great opportunity to put the pressure on the chasing pack.

Why do you hate VAR? If we had VAR we don't get knocked out of the CL in 04, we also don't lose the league to a Drogba offside goal in 2010.

A good VAR absolves Nani and we beat Real in Fergie's last season.

It's so easy to hate on VAR but the concept is great, the execution is just often poor. I wish we had VAR in the past because some of our biggest heartbreak would not have happened and nothing can make me feel it is somehow a good thing we got robbed by shite decisions in those games.

I just don’t understand how the Amad foul was not a penalty. It’s so clear it’s criminal that VAR ignored it as well.

I felt the Harry Maguire foul was a penalty but if you don’t call the Amad penalty shout, then you call the Maguire foul a penalty AND give a fecking red card, what the feck are we doing here? Why have referees if they are going to not call the game objectively. Complete and utter incompetence.

Irrespective of anything else, the Bournmouth goal or the Bournmouth penalty it is a clear penalty on Amad, their player makes no attempt to play the ball just grabs Amad by the shoulder and hauls him around and down... that VAR did not have the balls to even ask the ref to look at it again.... honestly VAR has so many detractors but it is not the technology that is the problem its that the idiots who are making the decisions in a caravan somewhere are the same idiots who are making piss poor decisions on the pitch, if anything the Amad pen is more stonewall than the Cunha one as Cunha throws himself to the ground, I just don't get how there is an excuse for such poor decision making when you have the fecking video to watch, just pathetic

I maybe could have worded it better. I hate the inconsistencies of VAR and the glaring errors made despite the multiple angles and additional time they have which the ref does not. I also despise the unjustifiable delays in making decisions and the joy it takes out of the game.

It's neither are penalties or both. That being said....

We had two leads in the game and gave them away. Our bench isn't good enough to even make subs, but at 2.1 up I knew we had to change something or players just to change the direction of momentum that Bournemouth were building up.

They were allowed far too many shots and especially from the edge of the area. The 2nd goal went in when Casemiro was still on the pitch so you can't argue Casemiro should be played for 90 mins either.

It's a tough one for Carrick because Ugarte is now awful and was shite when he came on too, offensively and defensively he's a liability.

Mbuemo isn't offering anywhere near as much as his first couple of games for us. The overall performance was ok and we could have won it if we defended a little more aggressively. We definitely miss Martinez and De Ligt.

Midfield will rightly so be the priority this summer but with no centre backs being able to stay fit or at the top level it's an important nice to have at some point if we want to cement our place competing for the league in future.

He didn’t even look pissed at full time or the players.

I hate that

He was having words with the fourth official 2-3 minutes into the match. I haven’t seen the post match presser but I expect him to do what Fletcher did and make this a topic.

The non penalty call was obvious but I thought overall it was a patchy performance again from us. Cunha probably our best player but the whole team was quite sluggish and passive on and off the ball.
Just hope we can keep doing enough to stay third.

I am fully with you on that. That's why I say it is about the implementation and execution, not the actual concept.

I would kill to have had VAR for some of those horrific decisions that cost us big in the CL, etc.

The ref completely bottled the penalty decision on Amad but I knew VAR weren't going to get involved once Bournemouth went up the other end and scored. Frustrating because I think it would've been a comfortable win if the ref didn't feck that call up.

Still did well to manage the game after going to 10. I would've kept Cunha on instead of Amad because we lost almost all attacking impetus with him going off, and Bournemouth still didn't look entirely in control with a player advantage. I understand why the decision was made but we still could've been a bit braver to try and win it with 10.

Have to say first half was very good, only thing missing was goal and we could've scored 1 or 2. Second half was more even but we still scored 2 legitimate goals while conceding from 2 controversial situations. Real shame because win would've been awesome but 2-2 is solid result given we played with 10 men for 20+ minutes.

Whatever the controversy, the fact is we have concede 6 goals to Bournemouth in just 2 games this season.

We conceded 4 against them last season as well, but that was playing under Amorim.

I can sort of see what he was getting at though. Yes in theory it shouldn't make a difference, but he was asked to explain why one was a penalty and the other wasn't, and all he could surmise was that the Bournemouth player being through on goal just tipped the balance and made the ref make the call. I can see the thinking.

Bournemouth are a weirdly well mannered side. Their players were constantly smiling at our players and softly picking up the ball and running it to us for our throw ins.

Kinda glad I can ignore football for a few weeks, because if that is fair refereeing then the game is a shambles

The players looked shell shocked that the Amad penalty wasn’t given, they seemed to stand off Bournemouth players a bit more.
Defending was way too soft, poor which allowed Bournemouth to score right after the referee debacle situation with Amad penalty. Someone should have stopped the game, make a foul...(yellow card if needed).

VAR is generally shite but that was one of the worst. That was a 3-goal and 1 Red swing purely because they absolutely bottled it.

Neither ref nor VAR wanted to give United a second pen so soon after the first. If It had been 0-0, they'd have given it. Which they proved 10 mins later by giving one for a slightly weaker offence. Shocker.

The initial Amad decision was a real stinker but the players switched off immediately following it (due to not getting the decision) leading to their goal. You just can't do that and it was compounded by their goal meaning the decision would then not be overturned, otherwise I think we deffo get the pen. Need more discipline/concentration in a situation like that, shot ourselves in the foot...

I hope they release the recording of the discussion on the Amad pen shout and Bournemouth goal situation so we can here exactly what was said

I can also see the thinking behind it somewhat (and to be fair we got a decision in our favour from a similar situation against Palace just a few weeks ago), but it shouldn't be that inconsistent. The foul on Amad involved far more clear and direct contact than the Bournemouth penalty and it should have been treated the same way.

The issue with VAR is the ‘agreeing with the on field decision’. VAR allowed this as the ref was fairly close with them.

Something is off with Mbuemo. Unsure if it's a personal issue but he's not been at it for a long time now, I think since even before AFCON.

Good to see Mount back and Heaven given a run.

Disappointed by the result and the officiating but we move onto the next one.

So this is the thing I don't get about VAR. Why not have it like Rugby Union where we can hear the conversations between the TMO and referee.

The recordings I’ve heard sound like a bunch of halfwits desperately trying to cover up an accidental murder in a frenzied panic. No way they want the audience to be able to hear that every week
