Fairly poor overall. Even in the second half we were second best until the subs/Mata's goal. Controlled it easily until the end from there.

Bailly MOTM - please stay fit.

The pace suited Mata, VdB with classy touches and Pogba continues to build fitness (looked gassed). Very good result.

Maguire rested for the first time or forced change?

Good performance. Juan and Bailly excellent.

Didn't realise we'd reached the Quarter Finals already! Just seems to have so quickly!

Anyway, hope we get a kind draw.

Not the best night but hey we got the win. Mata and Bailly were great, and liked Pogba and Rashfords cameo off the bench. Now hope for a favourable draw.

Man I like the look of VdB. Such a clever and classy player.

Would give the MOTM to either Bailly or Mata though, great performance from them.

Bailly showing his worth and why he deserves to start. Had so much bad luck with injuries. My MOTM.

James useless on both left and right.

Henderson is an excellent keeper and showing his merit to be our No 1.

Mata superb today.

VDB’s flick was sublime. Looks an intelligent player.

First half slightly insipid, but second much improved. Solid result.

A lot of poor passing for most of the game, good showing from Bailly and Mata. A good win, onwards and upwards.

Not much first half, better sec half. Good win against a sec string Brighton. Some positives on VDB, Bailly and McTominay but Dalot and James just not fit for the bench even.

Good performance by Henderson and even better one by Mata. Pogba's goal will go down as own goal but still pleased for him. McTominay & Bailly had good game.

Job very much done. Three good goals, Mata with one of his best matches for United in ages. Henderson with another clean sheet and in truth rarely troubled tonight.

That's Uniteds 5th win in a row against Brighton under the management of Ole. Meanwhile Jose last two matches as United manager against Brighton was two defeats.

Second half was very good after subs came on. Bailly is knocking on the door.

Mata showed he can still contribute; there has been a lot of hate for him, but he can still make things happen and pick out those passes that most cant.

Bailly also needs to be a regular. He is the pace we need to put alongside Maguire.

Happy to get through without too much panic.

There aren't many things that give me more pleasure than a Bailly slide tackle

much more assured in defence and attacked well after the subs.

James/Ighalo really not taking their chances to impress and Dalot/Williams poor also

interesting that Lindelof played on the left tonight. I think its time for a Bailly/Maguire partnership

maybe some signs of form tonight

Impressed by Brighton manager, they looked like an oiled machine, wish we could press and pass like Brighton...

I only saw the last 25 minutes or so. That was fun though so I'm going to ignore anything anyone says about the first half.

Lovely viewing that last 30 mins.

VDB is a very clever player and his little flicks are amazing.
Bailly was solid
Mata showed his experience and class
Henderson looked comfortable

I just hope VDB isn't put in with the second team for the cup games and makes a last min appearance in league games.

Loved what happened after the game too. Pogba, Mata and VdK all having a laugh with each other. Seems like there's harmony in the group at least.

A satisfying result in the end. The main positive was the extra fitness this will have given the players.

What did we learn? Bailly can feel hard done by about not starting more and the level of the team drastically goes up when first XI players are introduced. So nothing we didn't know before.

On to the next one.

Bailly my MOTM but big shout out to Mata and I think VDB, although not prominent showed some good signs. Pleased for Pogba too, looked well chuffed. First half average from both sides but once we made those changes in the 2nd we were the much better team.

Bailly and Mata were the best of the bunch that started. Henderson with a fantastic save to boost his chances. VDB showed some great touches.
Those were the biggest positives. There were still plenty of negatives. Our football was too flat for large parts of the match, and our passing was poor.
The less said about James the better. Not the only one to play poorly, but he just doesn't look like there's more to come.

Good result. Job done. A much improved second half in which we actually played some very good stuff.

Mata was man of the match for sure. Seemed involved in every bit of good play we had. Great cross for McTominay's header and for his own goal it was just pure class. He didn't have all the time in the world, but he made it look like he did. Picked his spot and finished perfectly. It was encouraging to see Van De Beek involved there too with a smart flick to assist.

Nice to see Pogba score too. His goal rounding out all of our good quality goals tonight. Special mention to Bailly too for a really impressive game.

Did anyone else get a bit pumped after seeing how much Pogba enjoyed his goal?

This guy feeds off of feeling loved; you get him enjoying the game, and we get the best out of him I feel

Feel like the second half just once again show that we really should be playing 4222 or 41212 (or even just plain 442) instead of this 4231. It fits the players we have so much better.

First half was like pulling teeth but much better toward the end of the second. Easily through, decent run outs for first teamers like Pogba and Rashford. Apparently we don’t play in the league cup again until December so hopefully the likes of Bailly and DVB see plenty of minutes in the league now.
